The Cards face Jakob Junis tonight, who is a bit of a middling veteran, sporting a 27-29 record with a 4.68 ERA over 459-2/3 innings in his career. He’s pitched 9 innings and given up 4 earned runs this year.

Dakota Hudson goes for the Cards, and they hope he can build on his last start, where he went 4-2/3 with one hit allowed and 6 Ks against the Reds. I’d imagine his pitch count will be upped a bit again as he went from 55 pitches to 71 pitches in his most recent outing. The Cards are 0-3 in his starts this year, so they really need to get off the schneid.

In a compressed season games like this are almost a must win. We can’t afford to mess around with teams like the Royals and Pirates if we want to be a true contender.

Sure hope Dakota can avoid one of his ‘uh-oh’ innings and stick to ground balls. Sounds like one the Cards can take. Since the Royals have two of those super fastballers capable of closing, I would not be surprised to see Rosenthal be traded. The other guy is still pretty young isn’t he?

Rosenthal will definitely be traded within the next week. Kennedy might be and Holland might be. The youngster, Josh Staumont, looks like a keeper.

Staumont is definitely a keeper but has he had the TJ yet? That knocks a guy out for 12-18 months depending on when it happens. Rosie has cleared it and after a horrible comeback try he looks to be in good pitching shape again. Kennedy and Holland I think will go. Just getting too long in the tooth but they have the makings of 3 closers and only need one. Well maybe I should take Holland out of that closer roll huh?

Rosenthal looked good last night, just left the ball to Bader up a little to much, which I guess gets Bader removed from the line up. I always liked Rosenthal and would welcome him back as a cardinal, though it’s not really a need right now. Thought it would have been cool last night if when he was announced the PA sound would have given him a standing ovation the actual St. Louis crowd would have returning to Busch the first time.

Sanchez hasn’t pitched in forever (was there news on him I missed?)
Gallegos has had 3 days rest
Cabrera and Miller 2 days rest
Woodford, Reyes and Miller on one days rest

Assume this game is going to be played? Reds/Brewers and NBA games cancelled in protest of racial injustice. I wont make any comments here.

I am not really shocked the NBA players are acting this way, but they are on the wrong side of this one…..they are standing up for a child rapist who from reports had a weapon, fought with police, was tazed and shrugged it off, said he had a GUN in his car and went to grab something in the car and was shot…..i don’t get it why stand up for this POS? He was given AMPLE chances to listen to the cops…

Hope the Cards play tonight if they don’t and want to stand up for that POS also i won’t be watching them…

Fowler and Flaherty are sitting out tonight along with the other MLB players who are protesting. Flaherty isn’t pitching anyway, but Fowler is a scratch.

Edman moves to right and Carpenter is in the lineup for Edman.

On the protests, there is no right or wrong – just opinions and positions. Fowler chose to sit out. That is his right. His employer supports his decision.

Further, clean it up. The posted site rules say this:

Profanity of any kind will not be tolerated. Any text insinuating profanity (using abbreviations, another language, leaving letters missing in the word, using special characters instead of letters, etc.) will also be considered as profanity itself.

Hudson’s curve is becoming a legitimate strikeout pitch. Perhaps he’s learning from Waino how to be a complete pitcher who can get grounders and a reasonable amount of Ks.

i support the nba teams and the mlb teams and players. ive read a bunch of stuff and none of it supports what was said by a poster above. Regardless of any of it, nobody should be shot 7 times, 7 times in the back. With his kids right there nonetheless. Thats dangerous in itself. Im going to let it go cause this is a baseball thread but i do support these guys.

Carpenter gets a lot of flak for his play at 3B, but he’s well positioned, reliable with the glove and makes accurate throws. I’d rather have that than see a guy chucking it past Goldy like we’ve seen the last couple nights.

To clarify, they knew about Bader’s migraine before the lineup was posted. He was not in the lineup so was not scratched. There is a chance he could appear later in the game.

However, Fowler was in the original lineup and he was a healthy scratch. He is not expected to play.

well stlcard, id rather have a guy with a strong accurate arm, great range, and can hit pretty well while getting paid millions of dollars. But i guess it just depends on your taste.

oh sorry brian. On the tv they said something about him originally being in the lineup, i guess they misspoke.

That hurt … would liked to have seen the Redbirds plate at least one there.

Looked like two borderline pitches went against O’Neil.

The Cards blink first as Hudson gives up a gopher ball. 2-0 Royals.
