October 7, 2019 at 8:52 am #110487Depending on the score and situation I would think they would all be available out of the bullpen; well, maybe not CMart. But I do understand the decision to walk McCann now. Swanson was 0 fer against Carlos and had been struck out previously. He was bashing against Adam but it made sense to give that ploy a try. Me? I would have used Gallegos against McCann but I guess that would have hurt CMart’s feelings and heaven forbid that we do that.
New Day. New Game. GO CARDS.
October 7, 2019 at 8:54 am #110489I like Hudson as the starter in this one, but he has to have command. An obvious comment as it is true of any pitcher to be successful, but Dak has struggled his last couple of outings after mostly being good all year.
Mikolas could be a key factor in either a long or short relief role.
Still have the thought in my head though how this game is set up for Teheran to be the hero, after not even being on the roster at the start of the series.
But the other side of the coin is that the Cardinals seem to have these games where after a couple of clunkers, the offense explodes for double-digit runs. Maybe today is the day for that. Thus I can also see a scenario where we are going “Okay, save some of those runs for game five fellas”.
October 7, 2019 at 8:57 am #110491As disappointing as the last two games have been I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cards win today and head back to Atlanta with Flaherty ready to go. This series isn’t over but the key is can we hit?

Participant“I mean, I don’t know exactly [Martinez’s] save percentage, but it’s about as good as anybody in baseball,” Shildt said after the loss. “So that’s his spot. He’ll be in that spot [Monday], and I’ll have full confidence in him.”
If we see Martinez today in a save situation, I would be thinking that Shildt is a gambling man and goes for the long odds. Plus he would be putting his reputation on the line… like its not in the toilet already. “Oh, Molina will handle him”, that is flat out bs.
October 7, 2019 at 10:59 am #110512October 7, 2019 at 11:31 am #110513Dakota Hudson is the 6th #STLcards rookie to start an elimination game:

October 7, 2019 at 12:02 pm #110515Lots of snarling and gnashing of teeth after last nights game. Its a new day,new game and another chance to continue. I believe we will show up today and hope to win. Lot of hype going in but hey, we’ re in the postseason! Who’d a thunk it? I think we may have caught a break with the pitching today. Lets score some runs. Stay focused, don’t pay any attention to the hype and play the best we can! Go Cardinals!
October 7, 2019 at 1:47 pm #110517Well, here we are. Is this the last game of the 2019 season for our beloved Cardinals or will the sleeping offense rise one more time and prove that luck and mediocrity can sometimes find comfort in the same bed?
A lot of you are being rather hard on Shildt these days. Personally I don’t have strong feelings one way or another. I think he’s pretty much a traditional manager with no real style of his own (at least from what I can determine thousands of miles from the dugout) and who tends to be too married to the “righty/lefty” philosophy of relief pitching.
I’ve enjoyed watching our mostly snazzy defense this year, especially after last year’s Keystone Kops.
Like the rest of you I’ve been sorely disappointed that so many of our players who on the face of it should have made up a formidable offense turned out to be a bag of popcorn farts.
Finally, it would not break my heart if I never again see Carlos Martinez enter a game in the ninth.
Rah Cardinals! Chop. Chop.October 7, 2019 at 2:14 pm #110520The Cardinals offense needs to score early and often, because the longer it goes and the closer it remains then that will force to Shildt to over manage the bullpen and hope somebody gets a big hit.
I don’t see Hudson going past 5 as I see Shildt pinch hitting for him esp in a close game or if we his spot comes up and we have a runner in scoring position. Doing this in the 6th or 7th, I understand but he’ll do it in the 3rd or 4th which may or may not result in a run or 2 but now you’ve wasted a pinch hitter, have to use up your bullpen. If Shildt has to manage today, our season ends so the offense needs to get going because Shildt doesn’t have control over that. And if CMart has to come in, I’d say bring him only in the 9th with a 10 run lead and 2 outs then maybe we can hold on. Maybe
October 7, 2019 at 2:26 pm #110521Well there is some offense! Let’s go guys!!!
October 7, 2019 at 2:58 pm #110526That was funny Dave. Back to back dingers, Goldy and Ozuna! Yowza! Got to keep it rollin’. Kukel man has a hard time retiring Hudson in the 2nd. Lookin’ pretty good so far. Don’t give ’em anything guys!
October 7, 2019 at 3:25 pm #110529Ozuna gets the run back on another homer. 3-1 Cards in the fourth. He is on fire.
October 7, 2019 at 3:27 pm #110530Yowza! Dinger!
October 7, 2019 at 3:30 pm #110531Wow. Keuchel pulled after a one-out walk in the fourth.
October 7, 2019 at 3:34 pm #110532This is scary, Need more runs boys. Do not put Shildt in a position to manage the bullpen if you want your season to continue.
October 7, 2019 at 3:40 pm #110533What happened to Dejong at the plate? Hope he can eventually fix it
October 7, 2019 at 3:44 pm #110534I’m glad Shildt didn’t pinch hit for Hudson even if the Pinch hitter would have hit a 3 run homer. I trust DH to hold a 2 run lead better than I trust our bullpen to hold a 5 run lead for 5 innings
October 7, 2019 at 3:51 pm #110537What happened to Dejong at the plate? Hope he can eventually fix it
He is the shortstop version of Tyler O’Neill.
October 7, 2019 at 3:51 pm #110538Well luck not on our side here in the fifth. Double off the bag then error on Yadi
October 7, 2019 at 3:56 pm #110539And then an error on Carp. Hudson deserves better. Jebus Ozuna almost with the trifecta error.
October 7, 2019 at 3:57 pm #110540Oh brother…
October 7, 2019 at 3:58 pm #110541well that’s not good. Gonna need our offense to really do some things
