September 1, 2019 at 4:26 am #104626Well, I missed all of yesterday’s action, having gone out with wifey to celebrate my birthday with a little foie gras and roasted veal filet with an unimaginably good sauce and a nice bottle of Haut de Bergelles. And what a birthday present to come home to. Thank you Cardinals.
Now let’s see if we can do it again over today’s guinea hen and scalloped potatoes.
Rah Cardinals!September 1, 2019 at 4:44 am #104627Happy Birthday CIF

Carpenter 3B

ParticipantVery different look opposed to yesterday. Glad to see JMartinez in the lineup.
So, where to begin. We hit trifectas (STL-W CHI & MIL Ls) on Aug 13th-16th & 25th. Yesterday we hit the superfecta (STL-W W CHI-L MIL-W but they lost ground anyway). This is how divisions are won. There’s more life in the team and perhaps even more with the call-ups.
You can’t deny that after given up on the Cards at the end of May this is quite a treat to not only being in the hunt for a wild card spot but actually having the Cubs looking up at them down 2.5 games out.
The Cubs ain’t that good and will likely lose today, yes at home. Even if the Cards split 2, the CHI still lose ground.
September 1, 2019 at 10:42 am #104644I never gave up in May. I am old enough to know that is how it works.
September 1, 2019 at 11:42 am #104645Wong and DeJong missing. Our defense may suffer with Carp at third and Munoz at short. It is not just the errors, but also the plays they don’t make.
September 1, 2019 at 11:42 am #104646Mikolas was very good last time he pitched. Fowler and Wong two of our more consistent bats are clearly missing. Martinez is just coming in off of IL. Hope theres enough hitting there to win this game.Really need to sweep this series and get some cushion. Would love to see Goldy and Ozuna get some hits today too. Keep it going. Go Cardinals!
September 1, 2019 at 12:28 pm #104648Just got in but haven’t checked score yet. GO CARDS.
September 1, 2019 at 12:42 pm #104652September 1, 2019 at 12:49 pm #104653Bad news for the Cubs today. Darvish is scratched with forearm tightness. Chatwood is starting.

stlcard25ParticipantMiles paints the strike zone two pitches in a row and gets squeezed. Not sure what more you can do. Bad calls by the ump. Then he gets the sac fly. Thanks, ump.

stlcard25ParticipantNow a home run by Suarez. I can’t stand that guy. 3-1 Reds.
September 1, 2019 at 1:02 pm #104656Turns out the ump’s failing to call strike 3 and strike 4 against Votto doesn’t cost the Cards a run since the HR would’ve score all three anyway. The costly play was Martinez not catching the fly that most any MLB OFer would’ve caught. If he makes that catch, then no runs would’ve scored. Two double headers in a row hurt with having to mix and match the lineups. But this is September, JMart should never play another inning of defense.
September 1, 2019 at 1:23 pm #104658In the past four games prior to today:
Goldschmidt is 1 for 18
Ozuna is 0 for 15Thus far, they are 0 for 4. Can’t win with them doing this. Too dependent on top or bottom of lineup.
September 1, 2019 at 1:41 pm #104661
stlcard25ParticipantThe Reds are executing the oldest trick in the book…send your bad pitcher down to the minors for a while and bring him back to face the Cards so it’s like having a new pitcher face them. It’s an easy way to shut down this offense.

September 1, 2019 at 1:44 pm #104663This team just can’t seem to get going until we get behind, however, relying on dramatic 8th and 9th inning rallies is a precarious way to survive.
September 1, 2019 at 2:27 pm #104666Helsley K’s Votto. He is pitching very well again. He better be given a chance at a starting job in 2020.
September 1, 2019 at 2:38 pm #104667Cards making some late-inning noise again. Score is 3-2 in the 8th with runners on the corners, no outs, DeJong pinch hitting for Carp, and the Reds bringing in Lorenzen from the pen. Great chance to tie and good chance to take the lead with Edman on 1B.
September 1, 2019 at 2:46 pm #104668Cards tied it 3-3. Amazing how much the Cards are winning with Goldy and Ozuna rarely helping the cause these days. Goldy grounded out for the 2nd out and Ozuna struck out on a ball that bounced. Edman stranded at 3B.
September 1, 2019 at 2:49 pm #104669Love hoe Edman saw that hole snd just swatted that pitch through it. Good hitting. Take what they give you.
September 1, 2019 at 2:49 pm #104670Never seen so many swings and misses from Goldy. Can feel the air turbulence all the way over here.
September 1, 2019 at 2:55 pm #104671OK let’s win this thing.
September 1, 2019 at 3:06 pm #104672Super Martinez again!
