That’s a good class. I voted for Carlton in the fan vote part, but Morris was real good for us. Like the Kurowski and Duncan enshrinements. Dunc was terrific as our pitching coach for many years and sort of an unsung hero.

Kurowski was our first real good third baseman. Had we put together an all time Cardinal team in 1950 he would have been at the hot corner.

Well im fine with that. I voted for morris previous times. In my mind a very underated pitcher mostly i figure cause of the lack of team success. I voted for george this time because i usually vote for older guys first if close to equal otherwise. Def am fine with duncan. I wish we had him now

    ^^^^^^

BikeMike…don’t forget Pepper Martin…he was a pretty darn good third baseman before Kurowski…

Yep, he was. And we had sort of an unknown guy named Les Bell who was a big part of the first modern era championship team in 1926.

I would have gone with Carlton or Hendrick over Morris but Matt was a good Cardinal.

In regards to Matt Morris and former Cardinal 3B’men, Morris placed second in the ’97 NL ROY voting to that season’s winner, Scott Rolen.

Bernie had a great write up on matt morris. Brought some tears to my eyes. You will have to check it out to see why. Readi g it though, even though i felt he deserved to be in all along, his numbers really surprised me, he was even better than i thought. Numbers dont always back up what you see but in this case they did.

Carlton, Renteria and Silent George back for another round, with newcomer Brian “Double Duty” Jordan added. I love Carlton and hope he makes it, but Jordan is a strong candidate also, as are Hendrick and Renteria.

Jordan came up as a Cardinal and had a 20.0 bWAR for us, just under Carlton’s 20.9. Jordan was a real “toolsy” guy who I thought would end up being an even better player than he was when he started out. Injuries hampered him and out of 7 seasons as a Cardinal he only had three where he played more than 130 games. But in those three years he had WAR’s of 5.2, 5.5 and 7.0. The remainder of his career was similar as he was real good when he could play, but could not stay on the field enough to fully tap in to his ability.

Jordan came up when the club was in some down years of the 1990s. Both Carlton and Hendrick have rings as Cardinals, and Renteria played on that great 2004 team that got steamrolled in the World Series.

Carlton of course is the best of the bunch by a good measure, but Gussie Busch’s unwillingness to bend a little in contact negotiations with “Super Steve” as he came to be called for awhile there, robbed us of his best years and helped elevate the Phillies from years of poor to mediocre teams into a consistent winner for about 10 years starting in the mid-70s.

All four are worthy candidates but due to my age I would go with Carlton, Hendrick, Jordan and Renteria in that order. I would like to see the guys from the 60’s and 70’s get in before they are forgotten about.

Carlton’s certainly worthy, but it’s hard for me to advocate a source of such extreme pain. He tortured my favorite team for what seemed like an eternity. I don’t think he ever surrendered a solitary hit to a player wearing a Cardinal uniform…Renteria was my favorite Cardinal until Albert Pujols emerged from the 13th round and Silent George may have had the most important hit of the ’82 WS. His RBI single put the Cardinals ahead to stay in the pivotal 6th inning of Game 7. He produced 9 hits in that year’s WS which was tied with Dane Iorg for the Cardinal lead. And I always thought he was the smartest player on that 1982 team simply because he had the good sense to never talk to the media…In my view both Hendrick and the winning Redbird pitcher of Game 7 of the ’82 WS are more deserving that Jordan, but I wouldn’t mind at all if Brian sneaks in there.

Easy vote for me this year, silent george.

I think Silent George will get the nod, but I will put in another vote for Silent Steve. A bit ironic that both Carlton and Hendrick did the “no press” thing.

Carlton is easily the best lefthanded pitcher the Cardinals system has ever produced, and has the highest Cardinal WAR (not mention overall WAR) of the four candidates.

However, I won’t be upset no matter who is honored as all four are good Cardinals.

Nice group. Surprised Edgar got the nod, but that may be some recency bias as he is the guy most voters likely saw play and know about. I was really hoping we could sign him after 2004, but he ended up going to the team that just beat us in the Series.

Walt was the architect of those early 2000s teams that were consistently competitive, and won a couple of pennants.

Some of us talked a little about Al in last night’s game thread. An entertainer during an era of mediocre Cardinal clubs. And a long time association with the club after his playing career. Well deserved!

Me too regrding Renteria. He was one of my favorites until he jumped ship and went to Boston immediately after the Red Sox just got done handing the Cardinals their backsides during the 4 game annihilation in the ’04 WS. I can take a pass on him. Let Renteria gain entry into the Marlins’ or Giants’ HOF instead…

Jocketty was steering the ship with the arrival of TLR, Edmonds, Pujols, Carpenter, Molina, Eckstein…I’m sure I missed some others. (McGwire intentionally) In my view, Walt gets full credit for both the ’06 and ’11 WS championships. Johnny simply inherited Walt’s success.

And oh…Don’t forget that Walt Jocketty was hired as the Cardinal GM by the AB ownership group in late ’94, and not by Billy Jr. and his pals.

Walt also brought in Scott Rolen and Larry Walker. He has been responsible for a lot of Cardinal red jackets. Probably more than the person currently in that seat.

I worked in the U of Colorado athletic ticket office part time in the ‘80s while a student there. A guy I worked for was hired on as Assistant Ticket Manager for the Rockies when they opened for business. Walt was with the Rox when we hired him, and my buddy told me (knowing I was a big Cardinal fan), “You are getting a good man.”

Walt engineered the deal that brought Adam Wainwright here as well as some of those others that have been mentioned.

He was the architect of the all those great Cardinal teams. From TLR and Duncan and on down the line.
