By pushing Gray off tomorrow, thanks to the break, the Cardinals would be able to cover the four games with the Cubs, doubleheader included, with Gray, Lynn, Gibson and Mikolas all on extra rest.

I hope we don’t lose this game. We are done if we do. Completely finished. It will be the start of a losing streak. This one is a MUST win. We’ve got to turn the ship around right now.
Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one. Along with one of the new batch of Palma Real 7×50 Presidente cigars I got in the mail today.
The only thing I’ve ever stopped doing that I still miss is smoking cigars. Its been well over a 1/4 century, and if i close my eyes I can still fèel that big black cigar between my lips as my mouth gets numb and the wonderful aroma fills the room. So now i just have to live my life vicariously thru Rat. Im quite sure i could have a 100$ a week habit in no time.
Yep, nothing quite like that first 7×50 El Presidente from a fresh box of cigars. You and Whitey HerDog enjoy it, Rat! I have a bad feeling that we may be on the receiving end of a sweep. But I wouldn’t bet this game with a 10 foot pole…..doesn’t really make sense, but the point being that for me the is a rare game, as I really have no idea what team is going to win this game. Go Birds!
Almost any time my dad was outside of the house or in the garage he had the everpresent White Owl stoked up and wafting it’s aroma in his car or truck or out on the patio area. He never smoked in the house out of respect and regard for our mom, so he spent a lot of his time outdoors…Haha! I always liked the aroma, but never did pick up the habit. He smoked those things like he was mad at them, and would claim he’d like to quit, but that he enjoyed them too much. He finally did stop smoking them about a year before he said goodbye.
Earlier in this thread BW confirmed that the SP’ers for this game will be a Cardinal who’s worked 4.1 IP’ed in his Big League career and a former Cardinal who’s worked nearly 1400 IP’ed in his Big League career. That’s quite a contrast.
Of the position players, I don’t see how anyone could argue against Burleson being the team MVP to this point. He leads or is near to the top in virtually every significant offensive category, but what’s impressed me the most is that he’s begun to generate some significant power production, as witnessed by a team leading 136 TB’s, while being victimized by the K only 44 times in 320 PA’s. In my view, that makes him a genuine throwback.
I wonder to what lengths they go to clear out the ballpark after the end of the first game of this twin bill. I wouldn’t really be up to putting forth any serious effort these days, but when I was in my late teens or early 20’s, the stadium police would have been hard pressed to keep me or a couple on my friends from stowing away somewhere and avoiding contact with the border patrol to see this second game. They’d have had to deploy all kinds of sensitive motion detection equipment along with a pack of fan sniffing dogs to run us out of the ballpark prior to game 2…Haha!

The lefties got this. Wacha has been stingy, but we’re looking at big crooked number innings tonight.Although I see nothing wrong with Donovan leading off the game, I’m a little perplexed that Winn isn’t allowed to man up at SS for the second game of a twin bill. I mean, how much rest did you need when you were 1 year past legal drinking age?
I was a little surprised that since the advent of the CYA in 1956, no pitcher has won multiple MVP awards. Before ’56, only Walter Johnson, Carl Hubbell and Hal Newhouser have won multiple MVP’s. Newhouser is the only pitcher to have ever won the award in consecutive seasons in ’44 and ’45. I would have thought that with all of the legendary arms to have come along since ’56, that one would have pitched it’s way to multiple MVP’s.
I’ll also say that you could do a lot worse that Crawford as a fail safe SS. He’s shown me he can still make the plays and every now and then he makes solid contact when he stands in.
The dad of one of my best buddies as a kind and through college smoked cigars. He was a big fat guy and would be in his LazyBoy chair with that big belly and a cigar. He would smoke in the house, so quite often my buddy would come down to my house and smelled of cigar smoke.
They used to call their dad “Fat Daddy”. 😀 Not to his face though – he was a tough dude. Later in life he lost a lot of weight and quit the cigars and made it into his 80s before passing away.
Alright, I like our old buddy Michael Wacha. Wish we still had him, but hope we can hang a loss on him tonight.
