I didn’t see anybody’s arguing that pitching, defense and timely hitting are not the keys. I think it was more like there’s not enough timely hitting. Show them a team that had decent pitching, good defense and timely hitting to the tune of 27th out of 30 for RISP that won a WS and maybe you’ll change their minds. Maybe it’s happened.
July 6, 2024 at 5:19 pm #259338Before its over maybe a couple guys will hit homers off their mop up guy so we can think they are pulling out of their super long slump.
July 6, 2024 at 6:13 pm #259339The Reds led 2-0 heading to the 8th against Detroit. A great outing by Hunter Greene. Then their bullpen blew it. They gave up five runs in the 8th and that was enough. 5-3 Detroit the final at Riverfront Stadium today.

jj-cf-stlParticipantLol, so want contact over K’s, but bad contact only. No extra base hits allowed past which inning?
July 6, 2024 at 6:27 pm #259341Two touchdowns always beats two field goals.
July 6, 2024 at 6:39 pm #259344We got blown out but its one loss and it just counts the same as any other. I saw Gorman is continuing to get hits, but sadly, the one PA when it mattered he struck out with the bases loaded. Hopefully he continues to hit at least.
I thought I saw something somewhere about Contreras has a banged up hand again that is bothering him.

jj-cf-stlParticipantYah, stupid lineup.
July 6, 2024 at 6:43 pm #259346C’mon gscott, no math in the game threads. It’s gonna cause some headaches. At least with today’s numbers, the Cards will keep blowing the Pythagorean expectancy out of the water.

jj-cf-stlParticipantPerhaps Gallegos could start for Lynn next round.
July 6, 2024 at 7:21 pm #259352Taking a gander at Saturday’s out-of-town scoreboard:
The Angels down the Cubs in Chicago. 7-0 Anaheim your final at Wrigley.
The Mets get a win over the Pirates. 5-2 New York the winner at Three Rivers Stadium.
Again, Detroit with a five run 8th and they win 5-3 over Cincinnati at Riverfront Stadium.
And as I type this the Doyers hold a 3-2 lead over the Brewers in the 4th at Doyer Stadium.

July 6, 2024 at 7:36 pm #259355My fault for going to the game, folks. I wonder if the Cards would pay for me to stay away in the future!
July 6, 2024 at 7:44 pm #259356The guys will be happy to hear it is not their fault, Gags.
July 6, 2024 at 8:36 pm #259360Lousy game, but I was so impressed with this Wood youngster that I looked him up. He could be a headache for quite some time. I see a lot of comparisons to none other than Dave Winfield. If ever there were a near perfect athletic baseball specimen, it was Winfield. I’m jealous of the Nationals. Why can’t we find an OF’er like this Wood kid?
July 6, 2024 at 8:36 pm #259361The Doyers currently lead the Brewers 3-2 in the top of the 8th at……
Well, phooey. Just as I was typing the above that stinker Christian Yelich yanked a dong off of Phillips to tie the game. 3-3 in the top if the 8th now at Doyer Stadium.
UPDATE:
Miguel Vargas just yanked a dong to left leading off the last of the 8th. Yelich was at the wall and reached up like he was going to catch it but it was just over his glove. If he would have jumped he might have caught it.
4-3 Doyers in the last of the 8th at Doyer Stadium……
2nd UPDATE:
And now Shotgun Watubi just yanked another homerun. This one to RF and that puts the Doyers up 5-3 now at Doyer Stadium.July 6, 2024 at 8:50 pm #259362Why can’t we find an OF’er like this Wood kid?
Maybe they will trade him to the Rays or sell him to the Rangers.
July 6, 2024 at 9:07 pm #259363And that’s a final from Doyer Stadium. 5-3 Los Angeles your final. Redbirds remain five games out.
Cards need a win in the next two games at RFK Stadium.
July 6, 2024 at 9:18 pm #259364Haha…Yeah, he sure looks like a good enough player for Johnny to get to wheelin’ and dealin’. From what I’m able to gather from a quick look around, this one may have a chance to eclipse some serious numbers. I’ve only seen him play in two games and I’m always aware of the hype factor, but this young kid looks good just standing still. I was a little overwhelmed. We’ll see how he turns out.
July 6, 2024 at 9:21 pm #259365Haha!…”Shotgun Watubi”

jj-cf-stlParticipantLance Lynn with a GmSc of -4
No starting pitcher had a negative GmSc in 2023. Not Wainwright, Rom, Matz, etc., nobody.
Lance Lynn has redefined “clunker”.
July 7, 2024 at 8:59 am #259382Lynn could’ve had a better game score if he had hit the first 16 batters of the game before being yanked by Oli. Of course, the fights might’ve been interesting, haha.
July 7, 2024 at 9:16 am #259383A team needs a lopsided setback such as this one every now and then to keep things in prospective. Getting drilled so early in a game allows everyone to relax, contemplate matters and even daydream a bit for the majority of the contest…….which on the surface doesn’t make sense, but in reality it does……as long as it’s a rare occurrence. And it gives your key relievers a day of R&R. Of course it’s always nicer to be the team that’s dishing out the beating, but every once in awhile, there’s nothing quite like being on the receiving end of a sound thrashing. Take note of how tuned in and productive our boys are today on the field of play.

jj-cf-stlParticipantEuro, I’d expect Lance to meet them halfway when charging the mound😀
