This delay has been long enough to complete some minor renovations…Might take a minute or two to complete the game if they ever get under way.
Looked at the box (was working outside today so mostly listened to the radio broadcast) and see we had four guys combine for an oh for 20! Goldy, Noot, Winn and Burly.
Am a bit concerned about Noot. He should be hitting better. But on the bright side, Noly is getting into one of his hot streaks. 6 RBI the last two games.
And with Burly, it seems he rarely squares up a pitch. Seems to have a nice swing and approach, but doesn’t make strong contact all that often.
Where was Libratore. He had two days rest after pitching one inning three days ago. Ollie continues to insist on using the rookie in critical situations why not him in the 6th or 6th and 7th. Then you have Kitteredge, Romero, Helsley and Libratore to finish the game. Probably use Fernandea for an inning and go to Kitteredge in the 7th.
Why are our hitters having so much trouble. If anyone knows are we still pursuing the Albert pull everything and upercut approach at the plate.
I thought Lynn turned in a decent day’s work until the 2 BB’s to begin the visitor half of the 6th immediately after Arenado had staked him to a 2 run lead with the 3 run tater. Unfortunately both those BB’s crossed HP after Kittredge allowed a base hit after retiring the first two hitters he faced. At any rate, LL’s rarely going to shut the opposition down, but he’ll normally scratch and claw to get through 5 or 6 innings and give his team a chance. Those 2 walks really hurt, which is often the case.
As soon as Goldy didn’t score on Nado’s single I knew that was gonna be the game. Then they loaded the bases with no outs and that was the nail in the coffin.
On another topic, I’m tired of the ump shows. Bring on the robot umps and the automated strike zones.
I was also disappointed when he didn’t come around on that base hit, BlackHills. I was thinking he had a good look at where the CF’er was positioned and should have been able to tell that the baseball was going to drop in for a base hit. However, once I saw the replay from a different angle it was apparent that Goldschmidt had no choice but to hesitate for a second and make certain it wasn’t going to be caught. At any rate, like you, I had a bad feeling when he didn’t score to tie it up.
Brebbia wasn’t too happy that Bucknor made him work to hitters while he was getting hammered by a monsoon.
Yeah, I’m surprised he didn’t entirely misplace his temper. It was disgraceful. And dangerous. Bucknor should be discipined.
Which raises the question…At what point, if any, can a pitcher refuse to work due to safety concerns? I mean, a manager can call his players in due to fans throwing objects onto the field. That downpour today was genuinely a hazardardous condition for baseball. Bucknor displayed a total disregard for the welfare of those players on the field. Lousy act by the HPU.
The 10th was a good example of the futility of the offense. The 3 Ks was perfect.
I am not expert on the ghost runner rules, but couldn’t somebody have gone in as a pinch runner for Goldschmidt? The game was on the line after all. Not that it would have helped on the Arenado hit, but it bothers me that the fastest guy on the bench wasn’t sent in if it was allowable.
The Cardinals blew many chances before this, but this was an awful call by a terrible umpire.
The White Sox led the Cardinals 6-5 in the bottom of the 10th, with 2 outs, the bases loaded, and an 0-1 count.
Then the game went into a 3-hour rain delay.

At what point, if any, can a pitcher refuse to work due to safety concerns?
Back when the Cards had Eli Marrero (catcher/outfielder), he was playing rightfield at Wrigley, in the rain. As I recall, he suffered a muscle injury directly related to the muddy conditions, and they finally delayed the game due to that.
I think both managers would have to gang up on the umps to get them to do anything.
As far as the Herrera at-bat to end the game, he should not have been taking there. Umpires and players have competing agendas in that situation. The umps already have worked three hours of unpaid overtime, so they just want to get out of there. Every pitch within a quarter mile of home plate will be called a ‘strike’.
I agree Brock. In that situation, if you can reach it you need to foul it off. But sending in a bench player with 100 career ABs coming in cold is ridiculous. That’s OliMo.

I think I recall that game, Brockster. I believe it was a Sunday afternoon affair where the howling winds were playing absolute havoc with any ball hit in the air. Routine infield popups were nail biting experiences for the team in the field and fly balls to the outfield were almost guaranteed hits. An enormously entertaining game to watch actually. Very sad when it was finally canceled.
Boy you could almost count on two hands how many fans stuck around to see the finish of yesterday’s debacle. Those that did should have been given tickets to a future game and maybe a few other goodies. That’s how class business entities operate and in turn flourish……they have that sort of mentality towards their customers. Hopefully the organization did something for them as they were exiting the turnstiles.
