Cardinals without a hit after the 4th. They’re starting to pack it in after falling behind.

The time has come for me to admit defeat and head for the feathers.

Folded like a team with no leadership.

A shutout is reason enough to shake up the lineup.
If I could have Donovan leadoff, Noot 3rd and Gorman 7th; fill in the rest….

It’s still early in the season guys. I haven’t watched much this year but just as a bystander, there have been some pluses. Pitching overall hasn’t been terrible though with older guys, that can change quickly. Bullpen has been inconsistent but they have been that way for a while. Same guys pretty much so have to expect that. Would help if our starters went deeper but again that’s been an issue for a while. Our offense has struggled which is a little of a surprise though given age of some of our veterans, I’m not sure it’s a big surprise. Hopefully they will get it together.

Phillies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks – The Cardinals play a good team they lose the series…

I still always say – you don’t usually know what you have until the end of May but this season sure feels a lot like last season so far…

I was going to play the line-up game, but the only name I could come up with for the remaining 6 slots was Burleson…

I’ll probably tune in to the Padres/Dodgers game. There’s a chance that game may be some sort of a contest.

This team is so messed up right now it’s like, where do we start.

So on the replacing Mikolas – lets go with he was gassed and you had to get him out of there. I don’t totally agree – he’s one of your guys you need to stick with. Still, let’s replace him, but Pallante? He pitched last night, and frankly is not very good. You had Carroll coming up – where was JoJo? I understand Liberatore was sick or something, but JoJo should have been the guy there if you are going to rush in a bullpen guy.

The offense is bad, but you are compounding the problem keeping Goldschmidt and his 61 OPS+ at 2. Then one of your best hitters is not in the lineup – a guy that is your best player right now, Masyn Winn.

We are doing things the same way there were done last year, and the result is exactly the same. 162 games last we go 71-91. 16 games this year we go 7-9.

Also just put Nootbar in CF for now.

Marmol can’t seem to make a good decision right now…

Almost have to put him in CF with Walker and Donovan at the corners. They got shutout today and have only scored 61 runs on the season which is by far the lowest run total in the NLC. They can still use Scott or Siani as a late inning defensive replacement when they have a lead, but they can no longer afford to write either one of those weak bats into the starting lineup.

I’m checking out the Padres/Dodgers game and it occured to me that if we had Mookie and Freddie I’ll bet we’d score some runs…

I get where folks are coming from, as I am concerned about the offense, too. But I read here the other day that they should not compromise the defense and that defense and pitching win championships. Not sure if opinions are changing or it is different posters talking…

Seems to me, the Cardinals can’t focus on winning championships. They just need to win some more games, however possible.

I don’t think Nootbar in CF comes near to compromising the defense to the degree that it would negate the rewards gained from removing a bat from the lineup that is for all practical purposes an automatic out. And that’s what we’ve been seeing from both Scott and Siani. Have to at least try something different in an attempt to score some runs.

To an extent. But when a players negative offensive value overwhelms his positive defensive value as was the case with Winn last year and Scott this year, you really need to think about the impact on your winning percentage.

You can’t win any ballgames scoring zero runs.

The Cardinals have scored 61 runs so far, the next lowest in the NL Central is 82.

The Cardinals pitching staff is not good enough to win when they have so little run support.

It was me talking about pitching and defense but the two players I singled out for their lack of defense (Gorman and Walker) aren’t hitting either so actually they are currently bringing nothing to the table.

And I really don’t blame them for not playing Noot in CF. First, he isn’t that good in CF and secondly, that is not the position you want someone recovering from a rib injury playing.

What position should he play, or should he be playing at all, if he’s still recovering from a rib injury?

The leadoff man leads this team with 9 RBI’s. I’d say that’s a strong indicator that something’s bassackwards with this offensive attack.

Walker currently has a 94% success rate in RF, which puts him in 2nd place behind Jack Fraley.

Last year, Edman had a 91% success rate in CF, and Nootbaar had a 90% success rate. There is no discernible difference.

I’m just saying that CF is a more physically demanding position than LF or RF. Apparently he is still wearing rib protection under his jersey so it doesn’t sound like he is 100%.

Nootbar’s throws from the outfield looked strong and I didn’t see him grimacing.

He’ll do in CF until one of Edman or Carlson returns.

Neither Scott nor Siani needs to be starting in any ML outfield right now.

At this point I don’t understand how this is even a discussion.

ZTR you are forgetting Noot did not play any CF when he was rehabbing in Memphis. I was given to understand that is relevant to him playing CF now that he is back.

I would have to see other measures to be convinced Edman and Nootbaar are equivalent in CF. But it doesn’t matter now, as only one of them is active.

Having said that, the Cardinals clearly don’t want to play Lars in CF right now. Folks can deny it if they choose, but that is the fact. Nootbaar fractured two ribs barely a month ago. Some apparently don’t think that should matter.
