Cards need to play Baker & Walker every day until the end of the season.
I agree 100%. But they’re still going to be looking at Bakers splits. He, Herrera, Goldy. All competing for 1st base, dh platoon.
After that game where Pages couldn’t throw the ball, I kind of like Herrera as at least he gives you some offense. Pages has dimmed some in my view, plus statistically he is not much better defensively than Ivan.
It’s nice to see there is no quit in this club. They have been knocked around and beaten up, but they battle the opponent.

I saw a reference to a “Scruffy Mikolas.” He’s always impressed me as the sort of pretty boy who spends a lot of time and money on his hair…My idea of scruffy is a guy like Lance Lynn. You can tell he’s not at all expecting Hollywood to come calling anytime soon and I certainly don’t think he ever gives much thought to going on a diet prior to bikini season…
I see that 7 out of our 10 hitters in our lineup today now have an OPS above the mlb average. Goldy isn’t there yet, but he’s only .004 below. Scott and Walker still way below, but a 5 for 5 day today has made quite the impact for Walker.
Walker goes from .439 to .566.
It has nowhere to go but up. Turns out bright lights, big city and hitters paradise did him well today.
Now go out and get a couple knocks tomorrow and shock me.
Goold posted that Walker is the youngest Cardinal to have a 5-hit game since Hornsby in 1916. Anyone remember that game?
Also, he’s our 1st player to have 5 hits in a game since Carpenter did it 6 years ago in 2018.
JJ – I think Soto should at least get some consideration for player of the game today. His defense helped us get several big hits.
Real happy for Walker. Still don’t like his stance with the hip and shoulder flying open, but heck, if he gets the hits who cares. Stan had a strange stance and did okay.
Maybe that is a confidence builder that he can take and move forward. Anytime you do something that has not been done in 108 years, and last done by a top tier hall of famer, you are in select company.
Was looking at the 5 hit game guys. Musial and Clemente both had 8 of them, Gwynn with 9, Rose with 10 which is the NL record. Cobb had a total of 14. I was surprised that Pujols only had 4 of them, but one was augmented by 3 of those 5 hits being HR’s which was the July 20, 2004 afternoon game at Wrigley. I remember arriving home from work and catching the tail end of that one.
The Yankees probably don’t worry too much about how to pitch to Walker. We will see if he can stay hot vs the Brewers.
That’s an odd comment bling, about the Yankees not being worried how they pitch to Walker. They are fighting tooth and nail with the Orioles for the ALE title. Plus they are real close with Cleveland and Houston for best record.
They are undoubtedly scouting every opponent and doing all they can to win. A win is a win, whether it is against an NL opponent or a rival.

Still perplexed by Ollie’s bullpen strategy. O’Brien has been scored upon in his first two appearances and Ollie puts him in with a lead and then it goes away. Then in the 8the with a 5 run lead he uses Kitteredge instead of saving him for the next game against the Brewers.
I’m not sure why some posters have gave up on Walker it seems. He is 22 years and 3 months old with by accounts from scouts across baseball has great potential. I think some people expect every prospect to come up and immediately be a star, but even stars sometimes take a while to live up to their potential.
Walker is definitely raw still, but the potential is there. Potential is key though as not all potential is realized. But the Cards need a home grown middle of the order bat desperately and he is our best shot at it. Give him all the playing time he needs. You can’t give up on him so early on just because he isn’t already a star.
It’s a little hard to imagine that the Astros, at 6 games in front, have by far the largest divisional lead in the AL. Meanwhile, my surrogate team, the Royals, have lost 5 in a row. And let’s not forget that the Cardinals just took 2 of 3 from the Yankees at Yankee Stadium and are well on their way to a momentous string of victories that will ultimately prove to be a historical comeback in the month of September…”I’ll tell you that!”
Those pesky Cubbies have now won 6 in a row and are 9-1 in their last 10 games and they now sit at 3.5 off the pace for the final NLWC berth. I don’t guess it’d bother anyone if they somehow snuck into the postseason…Haha!

I was thinking about why would they have trouble with a guy that is not hard to get out. I think it is because they hardly ever see him, and he’s been in the minors all year, so probably weren’t expecting to see him, or at least had better things to worry about. I’d be happy to hear some other explanation.
I’m sure they scrutinize everyone in the opposing lineup, but prior to today’s game Jordan was hitting .143, so I wouldn’t think he would be the number one priority on the list of hitters to approach with caution.
