Right call or not, players are taught to always turn right on a bang-bang play at 1B for precisely that reason (unless the runner knows with certainty that a throw is past the first baseman and he should try to advance).

2 stolen bases in 12 games played works out to 27 in 162 games. Not too much of a factor so far. Only two walks also.

In 44 chances he’s only reached base 6 times, but the oddity is that he’s crossed HP all 6 times.

Part of me wants to change my mind and just stick Noot in CF and send Scott down. While I’m all for sending Scott down, I’m uneasy about Noot in CF. And it does feel reactionary to do it after Scott’s miserable game where he didn’t make a catch after backtracking on a ball in the rain that led to 2 runs and then he got called out on a questionable base running blunder that led to one less Cardinal run scored. I don’t like being over critical about 1 bad game though.

The fact still remains that Scott struggles mightily to hit MLB pitching, which I expected (although I did figure he’d at least beat out a couple more infield hits). He belongs in Memphis and if St Louis can get by with Nootbaar in CF, then maybe that’s what they should do. I guess I’m ok with whatever move the Cardinals make when Nootbaar presumably returns Friday.

I don’t like Noot in CF but Scott needs to be in Memphis.

Going into today’s game, Scott had 1 base hit in his last 24 AB. He needs to get out of St. Louis before his confidence is ruined. Maybe send him down to Springfield for awhile before sending him to Memphis. I’m glad we got a look at him these past two weeks, but he is clearly not ready for MLB yet.

If demoted now, Scott would still have roughly 30 days left of his rookie eligibility (for 2025), so a Sept call up could still be in play.

Those 30 days may also be needed from Scott, between now and Sept, for IL backfill.

Scott is dazed and confused facing ML pitching and needs to be jettisoned south as soon as we sensibly can. Oh what a weapon Victor is going to be though…coming to a ballpark near you the spring of 2025.

Victor will be a good player, just not ready. He has had some bad luck as he never seems to hit a ball where they ain’t.

Think Noot in center for awhile is the way to go.

Siani can give us Scott’s current results, so Noot to CF is for the lineup upgrade, at that position.

Keeps Burley as LF, and Siani as 4th OF’r. Burly gets the starters PA’s w/Siani as PR and def replacement, sounds like our management.

Folks, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Nootbaar has yet to play even one inning in center during his rehab stops. In seven games including Wednesday’s rainout, he has played multiple games in left and right and DH, but no CF. Given he hasn’t yet and his time is about up, it seems unlikely he will.

It would be really, really poor planning by the Cardinals if they were to stick him out there when he is back with StL having had no tune-ups at the position.

The E and baserunning misplay from the rookie both figured into the loss, but I think the overriding factor in this one was the deployment of the dreaded “deathball” in the 6th inning…The author of deathball is now sporting an ERA of 9.00 in 5 IP’ed…Right now, I don’t think the deathball pitcher could get Scott out.

Well that was a tough one today. I don’t know who goes to centerfield but Scott just can’t stay there.

We got a good look at him and while he’s here he needs to play but – he needs to be playing in Memphis.

Edman seems lost for the year and Carlson may be a minute getting back. Who’s playing CF in Memphis right now?

Ollie has no sense of roles. If Thompson is to be long relief he should have been in the game in the 6th and probably the 7th. That would have got them to their stress inning guys in the 8th and 9th. If he was going to use Thompson then Pallante should not have been in the game. No saying that because he got torched but because players need to understand their role on the team. They are more comfortable and know what to expect. Sometimes I wonder if Ollie has any semblence of a plan.

And starting a game with more than one regular on the bench. Winn has been going great. Why rest him now. If he needed to get Crawford some game time, there is always the DH. Then if he was going to give Winn the day off why bring him in in the middle of the game. Giving a player a day off and then using them for anything other than a late inning pinch hitting role makes no sense.

When players are uncertain about their role on the team that effects their play. Tony LaRussa was a genius at identifying roles for players and using them as planned.

Why do we need to be “resting” players who have only played ten games? Unless they are nursing injuries, these people are professional athletes and need to be on the field.

Nootbaar has played in the major league outfield 1896 innings, 35% of which, 650, have been in center field. He has no need to tune up for center field in Memphis,

Willie can have him roaming CF like a champ in no time.

FYI – Edman has been cleared for “baseball activities” and Carlson has not. Edman could find that his wrist is still hurt, but it’s also possible now that he’s back in a couple weeks. Time will tell.

I do agree that if they planned to play Noot in CF, then they would have him warming up there while he’s in the minors. So the plan is either to keep playing Scott out there or to send Scott down and start Siani out there with Noot as the emergency replacement. I don’t really see the latter happening so I think Scott is here to stay until Edman or Carlson become cured of what ails them.

These two quotes are delightfully in harmony…

“It kinda seems like the loonies are running the asylum.”

“(Nootbaar) has no need to tune up for center field in Memphis.”

Noot was the announced starting LF at the winter meetings, by Mo. Don’t tear down what you already built. The decision wasn’t wrong. CF is its own problem.

Temp CF until our regulars return. Siani, you’re up. Sign a Tony Kemp type as the 4th OF’r until Carlson returns.

Get Scott back on his career path. Leave Noot where he belongs.
