Wow, didn’t know Bob Feller was that young when he started, TD. As a quick aside, during a road trip from Wisconsin to Colorado last summer, during just a short stretch in Iowa, we passed both Bob Feller and John Wayne’s home towns. I bet Duke could have drilled a few career dingers if he had decided to play baseball vs acting……love some of his old movies.
Sonny looks totally and unequivocally under control in this ballgame. We haven’t had one of these guys in quite a spell. Montgomery gave us glimpses, but we may have to harken back to who??? Chris Carpenter maybe?
Last year my tag line for our pitching was “Mikolas and Matz and pray for better stats.”
For 2024 I will go with “Miles and Sonny Gray and pray for sunny days.” 😀
Wow what a wicked line drive by Contreras into his own dugout just narrowly missing Gorman……geesh Willson hit those in the opposing team dugout not ours….or if you just HAVE to hit it into the Cardinal dugout, direct it John king’s way, not Gorman’s.
I’ve been to the Bob Feller museum in Van Meter. Real small and informal. The area is a throw back to simpler times and you can visualize Feller as a kid playing catch with his dad and developing that legendary fastball.
Feller was a little surly in his later years. Met him a couple of times and he was cordial, but a little grumpy.

Man, I did not even know about the Wayne hometown. And I love old western movies and TV shows.
There’s no way to overlook all the K’s, but when he connects the baseball really takes a powder in a big hurry. He just seems to generate so much power from his hands and wrists that really put a charge into the baseball. I’m going to get in trouble for saying so, but Schmidt hit 36 HR’s in his age 24 season and led the league in K’s.
Nice debut for Sonny. He’s probably done so let’s hope we don’t see the ‘pen implode. Ollie used the front liners last night, but we have former Phillie JoJo Romero available. And that guy we got from Tampa – I am not a fan of that guy – can’t even recall his name.
5 beautiful innings of labor compliments of Sonny Gray. Cards lead it 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 5th. Unless we score a fistful of run this inning, I contemplate my blood pressure going up about 50 ticks next inning when Sonny is riding the pines instead of the rubber.
Mason Winn has arrived…..lines a single to left sending Burleson to 3rd with no outs…..sweet! This inning could be just what the doctor ordered.
