I wonder if Thompson will go to Memphis after tonight’s game. I can see the wisdom in having him on hand to back Gray, but then I think he needs to go down and stay stretched out. That would raise the question of who would come up, since King would not be eligible for 10 days.
Wild Turkey & Mountain Dew, JJ? I’ll have to try that, JJ, as I usually drink it straight…..the Wild Turkey, not the Dew……I do the Turkey, but don’t do the Dew in other words.
You know, the more I contemplate the numbers and real possibilities associated with tonight’s game, the better I like our chances for success. Wheeler & Co. are going down tonight.
Gorman 5th, now that Willson can swing the bat.
I wanted to give Winn a Game Ball last light, but not in losses. That was a big RBI for him to tie it. Looks like a big leaguer, but adding walks would help now, before his BAbip starts to normalize a bit.

Din-din here is fish & chips cooked in the air fryer, cole slaw I grabbed at KFC/A&W, and while there I had our A&W jug, or growler as they call it in the brew pubs, filled with root beer.
Hope we can win this one. The Phillies really have our number of late. Ollie blew out his ‘pen last night with what I thought was a poor move, although jnevel felt Ollie did the right thing bringing in Gallegos for Liberatore to face Castellanos.
Turned out bad, but maybe Castellanos would have taken Libby deep – we will never know.
No question that Winn is looking like he’ll stay around for a while. He’s fun to watch with the mitt and arm over at SS and he’s swinging the bat as a bonus.
Sonny-Boy sets them down 1-2-3. Only 15 pitches, which puts him on pace to go 4 innings strong tonight.
I wish with all of my heart that Sonny was 24 years young and we had him inked to a team friendly 10 year deal…..and with a club option for an 11th year.
With 1 out in the top of the 2nd, Sonny surrenders his first baserunner, a feeble little wounded duck flair out into short center field……but then a neat 6-3 twin killing puts the finishing touch on another tidy inning by Mr. Gray.
Yeah, Winn really looks good. He has already made a couple of plays I don’t think Edman would have gotten to. (Don’t tell GameCard I said that 😉).
Oh man – that pitch was never in the zone. Winn had his mind made up that he was swinging and could not hold up.
Gorman lines a 1 out single to right here in the bottom of the 2nd….so let’s stay with the action shall we?
Herrera – Hits it on the ground to short where they’ll only get the man(Gorman) going to 2nd, as Herrera easily defeats the throw to 1st
Burleson – Strokes a base hit to center that will send Herrera safely trucking around to 3rd base.
Winn – whiffs swinging at one way low and outside, but on the plus side, the Cardinal SS made Wheeler exert 11 pitches of energy to accomplish the out……which will come into play a bit later in this game. Nice at bat by the kid despite the deep sea fishing expedition on the last pitch.
Yeah, Bikemike, Winn has demonstrated that he’s the fixture at SS. If Eddie mans up on the middle of the IF it’ll be at 2B as long as Winn avoids injury. The rookie’s been fun to watch over there on the left side and I think he’s got a decent chance to develop into the type of elite defensive SS that could take home multiple GG awards at the position. He looks like a really good one.
Pugs – I read that at first as you wishing Gray was 24 years younger! I was wondering why you wanted him on a 10-year deal from age 10 to 20!
Ha ha Jnevel! These days they mature pretty young, but age 10 facing the likes of Byce Harper and Nick Castellanos may be stretching it a bit. Who was that Cincy hurler about 80 years ago whom started pitching as a 16 year old…..I want to say Joe Nuxall maybe?
Team D again. It’s been a while since we made our pitching look good. Feels more like the Cardinal Way.
I don’t know what the record for youth is, but Feller made his Big League debut at the age of 17 years, 259 days. He did pretty good in his first season going 5-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 62 IP’ed in which he collected 76 K’s. I’d say the youngster had the potential for a pretty good swing and miss pct…Haha!
Joe Nuxhall is right, Pugs. In 1944 the majors were desperate for players. Another “Gray”, Pete played one year in St. Louis despite only having one arm.
Nuxhall returned to the majors in the ‘50s and had a nice career. I think he was on the Reds broadcast team for a lot of years as well.
Concerned about Goldy. He just has not looked good. Doesn’t seem to square up much when he does make contact. It’s a long season so we will see. He’s had prolonged dry spells and bounced back.
