BikeMike? A huge hit from Arenado???
It was a little weak pop fly that the Cubs messed up. That’s about all Arenado and Goldschmidt do nowadays – hit little weak groundballs and little weak pop flies.
August 3, 2024 at 3:51 pm #262888In addition to being a good bat I like the attitude Pham brings. He’s got that football mentality. He and Contreras really show a lot of drive. We have needed that.
August 3, 2024 at 3:51 pm #262889The end may be near, but we dodged it today.
August 3, 2024 at 3:54 pm #262890Taking a gander at the Saturday afternoon out-of-town scoreboard:
The Nationals lead the Brewers 5-0 in the 3rd at RFK Stadium in Washington.
The Reds host the Giants later tonight at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. I wonder if the Reds will manage to get a hit tonight?
The Pirates entertain the DBacks later tonight at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.
And the Rockies are at the Padres late tonight. Colorado won last night by the score of 5-2 at Jack Murphy Stadium.
And Front Row Amy gaining more steam in the race for the White House. My polls show she is now neck and neck with the woman from Uganda. Bernie Sanders still holding his own in 4th place.
August 3, 2024 at 4:13 pm #262896Not only was that clutch 2 out, 2 RBI base hit from Arenado the play of the game, but he probably also should have been standing on 2nd base with a double…I’m guessing he was dogging it out of the box.
August 3, 2024 at 4:15 pm #262897HEY?????
DID YOU GUYS WATCH THE GAME?????
That was a little weak pop fly into short CF by Arenado that the Cubs messed up. It should have been the 3rd out with us still trailing 4-2.
Arenado did nothing in that atbat except hit a little weak pop fly again.
August 3, 2024 at 4:21 pm #262899When you put the ball in play, you never know.

jj-cf-stlParticipantGame Ball to Tommy Pham
Hat-tip to Ryan HelsleyAugust 3, 2024 at 4:42 pm #262902Actually Arenado did not give us a big hit. He hit a flyball to CF that the Cubs completely botched. The official scorer was very generous.
Hey after the meltdown on Thursday night it was our turn for some good fortune.
August 3, 2024 at 4:44 pm #262903So is Siani now going on the IL? If so, what does the OF look like?
August 3, 2024 at 5:02 pm #262907Well, CF coverage is going to stink.
They could bring Scott up and do without offense from that slot.
Or they could do a 40 man move and bring Kopeniak up. He could provide backup coverage behind Noot. Not great backup, but probably better than Pham and Donovan. I noticed the Cardinals have been playing him in CF some last year and this year, prepping for just this situation. Maybe he’s a better CF than Noot. Who knows. The bar is not high.
August 3, 2024 at 5:02 pm #262908Thank you Cubs. We couldn’t have done it without you!
August 3, 2024 at 5:04 pm #262909Perhaps we could trade Pham for Edman.
August 3, 2024 at 5:06 pm #262910Yeah the Cubs should have caught that ball Arenado hit, but shoulda, woulda, coulda – it got the job done.
That was one of those where back in the day there was talk of creating a team error when you can’t assign an error to a player.
Regardless, it is those that make up for the ones you hit on the money but right at a guy.

jj-cf-stlParticipantBallers play everywhere. Get up here JJ!
*wink*August 3, 2024 at 5:11 pm #262913That play and the way the game ended made me think of what Mike Shannon said years ago:
“There’s the Cubbies that we all know and love!”
August 3, 2024 at 5:22 pm #262915I guess Saturday cancels Thursday
August 3, 2024 at 5:25 pm #262916I’ll admit I checked out and had to get my haircut. Was in sport clips waiting and looked at the MLB app and said out loud ” you’ve got to be s******* me.” Which got a look or two from others waiting. Can’t believe they pulled that off. Oh and naturally to top it all off I was getting my hair washed and the stylist somehow soaked my chest of my shirt. I guess that’s my serve of crow so to speak. Lol
That’s the one thing I’ll say about Pham. He does have that dog in him.
August 3, 2024 at 5:25 pm #262917And we pick up a game on the Brewers today. Milwaukee loses 6-4 to the Nationals at RFK Stadium in our nation’s capital. Which will soon be the home of Front Row Amy. She’s gaining more steam.
August 3, 2024 at 5:26 pm #262918I guess Saturday cancels Thursday
Ask me after the game tomorrow.
August 3, 2024 at 6:24 pm #262922Although they’re only 2 games off the pace, the Cardinals may have a difficult time snagging one of the 3 WC berths. Right now they’re chasing the Braves, Dbacks, Mets and Padres for the NL WC. Of those four teams they have 4 games remaining against the Padres and a single game against the Mets. All 5 games are at home with the Mets game being a makeup of an earlier season washout. The Cardinals aren’t going to have any head to head chances to make up ground on the other 2 teams that they’re chasing for a WC. If I had my druthers, I’d like to see them play better in the 6 games remaining with the Brewers and possibly catch and overtake them for a perch atop the NLC. In any event, we have to beat the Cubbies tomorrow…Haha!
August 3, 2024 at 6:28 pm #262923I’ve been saying that all along Dom. Focus on the division.
August 3, 2024 at 6:38 pm #262924Six head to head with the Crew, so there is a chance if we can hang close. Also four game set with the Pirates. Tough going though as we face the Yankees , Dodgers and Guardians. Plus we have a series with the Mariners who are pretty good, and a four gamer with the Padres that could be big.
If somehow we survive to game 156 we finish with three out here against the woeful Rockies and three in San Francisco against a mediocre Giants team. Lots of potential drama remaining.
August 3, 2024 at 6:41 pm #262925“ Perhaps we could trade Pham for Edman.”
Is Tommy even playing yet? How about we bring Carlson back for that reliever?
August 3, 2024 at 6:47 pm #262926I don’t think there’s any question it’ll be a mad scramble Chinese fire drill type sprint for those WC berths, but I guess it’s just what the Big League bosses envisioned and wanted when they went to 3 teams.
