This series would have been completely different if it wasn’t for Helsley’s meltdown Thursday night. That gave the Cubs the jolt of energy they were looking for and now they will rampage against us for four straight.

Helsley wasn’t to blame for that pathetic travesty yesterday when we got 9 walks and couldn’t do diddly.

Chip Caray- ” We need a knock from Arenado to get the Cardinals back in the game”. Sorry Chip, thats just not who he is. What a pathetic at bat.

Well, 9 walks is not that many. Maddux once had 20 walks in 232.2 IP’ed.

Honorable mention is called for seeing as how Tewksbury had a shameful 20 walks in over 210 IP’ed…Twice.

It’s beginning to become evident that the legendary Tommy Pham is not going to save this team. We need Manny Motter.

This team has been playing like Pythagorean projection since the KC series. You’d think the break would’ve helped up but we got some possible fools gold in ATL and have been worse ever since.

And I thought the team up until May 11th was tough to watch. It could be even tougher to stomach this team if they crumble like a stale cookie down the stretch.

Tommy Pham was not going to be the savior. He was a solid add to help out. In all honesty the 2 guys manning the corners on the diamond is what is really killing this team. I’d even take the 2023 version of these 2 clowns but it appears they can’t even reach those down year levels at the plate. Been hoping, been wishing and been praying for even that. I don’t think it’s happening. They will be the reason that this team makes or doesn’t make the postseason.

My goodness…Arenado comes through with the blistering base hit…Why isn’t he at 2nd base?

Yeah, the corner IF’ers have been AWOL all season long.

Cubbies trying with all their might to hand this game over. I have my doubts that the Cardinals will have the good grace to accept the gift.

I never got an angle to see if he was running hard. Seems like he should have been standing on second.

Yeah KCB, I could have finished a cup of coffee in the time it took that baseball to touch the OF grass.

Right oblique tightness for Siani. And our old backup CFer hit his first home run of the season yesterday for a new team. If Diani goes to the IL, it will be interesting to see if we just go with Nootbaar and Pham in CF. To my eye, neither is good.

Maybe Pham will save us…Leadoff triple ought to turn into a lead.

Here we go again. Speculation is Helsley is tipping pitches and the Cubs are aware which is why they’ve killed him this season.

2 sliders right down central. One almost hit out. Ugh.

How do you know that? We came out flat after the meltdown.

    Hopefully he gets redemption today.

The Cubs handed us a win today. It still feels good.

Any team that receives nine walks ought to score at least a dozen runs…

Thankfully we at least avoid the sweep. I am still miffed about Thursday night but today we pulled a rabbit out of a hat.

    All I can say is……

    “WHEW!!! THANK YOU CUBS!!!”

That might – MIGHT – have salvaged the season. Once we get blown out on the ESPN game on Sunday night that will once again doom us.

Nice comeback – trailing 4-1 going into the eighth and we get huge hits from Arenado and Pham. And how about Noot – had two strikes but was able to get the sac fly.

Helsley gets it done this time. Needed that one.
