Man, two really bad days for the Bike Mike household. We get knocked around by the Northsiders, and the markets go south. Not only are the Cardinals looking like losers, my net worth is taking a hit.

What can you expect from a mediocre team? Make it one game over .500 and call it success! It is we who must adjust our expectations. Perhaps MLB will add a couple more wild card teams.
The moves at the deadline improved the fundamentals somewhat, but this team still has the fourth worst run differential in the NL. They are fortunate to be in the WC hunt at all.
We are near the bottom in runs scored in the NL.
Is it all because of the poor performances of Goldschmidt and Arenado? I assume it’s not all their fault.
Unless there is a major turnaround the next several weeks I don’t think there is any doubt that Goldschmidt will not be in St. Louis next year. Unless he takes a really – REALLY – club friendly deal. Say, something like two year/$100,000.
I think cardinal in france has the right idea. If you just figure this team is a 500 team then anything over that is a positive. Until they can demonstrate they are better than just an average team then its best to lower exoectations. Ive pointed out this a couple weeks ago but its still worth asking. We have a bunch of teams hanging right around each other far as records go. Are all these teams just kind of middling to not good or is a lot of these teams that have traditionally been worse at this time of season just a little bit better than previous seasons. Hard to say.
That’s a good question Willie. A related question might be did any of that group go all out at the deadline, or does it seem like everybody is just doing the minimum to squeek into post season?

Most of the time giving up 5 or 6 runs will be a loss for just about any team. The Helsley meltdown last night was unexpected. That game would be a win most nights. Let’s hope that was a one off and Ryan is not hurting.
Four hits today and again, you won’t win often even against a bad team. Our hitting woes start with relying on two guys on the downward side of their careers. Then we fill in with players either earlier than what will likely be their peak seasons, and/or they are not elite offensively. Probably mostly the latter – Winn is the only one that looks like he will be very good. The others like Donovan, Nootbaar, the young catchers etc probably are what we see. It could be that Herrera will be above average offensively, but we will just have to see how things play out.
I thought this year’s Cardinal edition could be condensed and defined by today’s 7th inning. The Cardinals were gifted with no less than 5 walks in that inning. Of those 5 walks, 2 of them came with the bases jammed leading to the only 2 Cardinal runs of the inning. Any team that’s given 5 walks in an inning and only comes away with 2 runs has a serious issue regarding hitting with RISP. The Cardinals scored 2 runs in the 7th despite not being unable to scavenge a solitary base hit in that inning.

There you have it. Noot and the rest of the youngsters are fine periphial players. You have to have a reliable, productive middle of the order. The game has been that way for a long time. Winn is the only guy I see as having a chance at being an elite player. When you are trying to fit these guys into roles they arent ready for, you get this unproductive offense.
The Cardinals can’t develop middle of the order power bats and Bill is too cheap to buy them, so we just have to hope that other trade situations come along like with Goldy and Arenado and pray we avoid the Ozunas. Hoping and praying is a heck of a way to run an organization.
Noot is returning from an oblique or cracked ribs?. He’s not full strength. This is, “not there yet”, for him. He never had Gorman power, but he is a batting 2nd or 3rd hitter, for me when at full strength.
Sounds like an excuse, but he’s better than this.
He keyed in nicely at the 2 slot while he was displaying a propensity for reaching base and coming around to cross HP, but both of those selling points have been diminished this season as his OBP has fallen off and he’s only scored 20 runs this season. Maybe he’s still shaking off some dust, but even when at full throttle I don’t see him as a good fit for the 3 slot.

I hope not. At some point, fans have to send the message that sneaking into the playoffs year after year and hoping to catch fire for a couple of weeks isn’t good enough. Ownership and management won’t change if the turnstiles keep turning.
Well bling, i think because so many teams are still vaguely in the hunt, few teams were big sellers which really kept lots of teams from really going for it. Now of course some prob intentionally didnt go big. Its kind of funny, trying to look at this season as a unbiased fan as opposed to a cardinal fan, i think it would def mean more for some teams other than the cardinals to make the post season. The pirates, reds, mets come to mind in the national league. Id have to look at the american league. Even if those teams got beat first round, they could still call it a successful step. The cardinals if they just barely make it and lose in first round, im not sure ypu can spin that positively even after last season. Im sure ownership would but i just think that just making it and losing first thing, makes getting better harder for this organization.

Our only hope 🙏 for 2025 is for Walker and Gorman to find an answer to their respective struggles. I don’t see a trade that would solve it. Or maybe I just don’t see a front office willing to make a trade that would bring a big bat. I presume Goldy is done and that Arenado is untradeable unless we pay the freight. As far as the balance of the 2024 season, It’s going to take a big streak to even get them into the wildcard.
