Bling – Ball hit hard as a line drive that was slicing a little towards the RF line that Carlson leaped and missed. Then he rolled over and went to get it after it hit the wall.

Nice HR by Goldy. 2000 hits is a magnificent career.

We threw our ace, closer, 2 best LH relievers, 2 best RH relievers and pitched to an ERA of 9.00 over 10 IP vs WSN

The triple was smoked, a tough to read type of liner. Carlson didn’t have the luxury of making one wrong step. His first step was diagonally inward and should’ve been lateral. He corrected course quickly, but there was no margin for error. His route needed to be almost perfect to make that play. If his tracking had been perfect, he would’ve probably caught it in stride without any kind of ridiculous dive. As it was, he had no chance after the initial misstep.

Well, of course the game evolves, and everyone knows I don’t want to be an old fuddy duddy always talking about the old days. But in the old days, in that situation, since we are playing at home and get to bat last, the rule would be don’t let them hit it over your head. Play as deep as you need to, but keep in in front of you. If it drops in front of you its two runs tops and maybe only one, depending.

Now days, two runs means as soon as you come to bat in the bottom of the inning, the tying run is at the plate. Of course, they could continue to score more, but the percentage play is don’t let them hit it over your head. Same as its been for 100 years. They know about shifts, but they forgot about that.

They’re showcasing an underperforming player and it bit them. 0/4 , doesnt make a play to help the team. He did the same thing in Pitt the other night. There’s a lot more to this but that’s the end result.

I wonder if Wetherholt will end up with the prime uni number.

I’ve been in the road for a week and unable to watch. Was Gray getting hit hard? Was his command just off tonight? He has had a little slide lately and I keep expecting him to pick it back up with his really good peripherals.

And this is the “easy” segment of the schedule. Most recently, they are 5-7 starting with the Royals’ two-game sweep at Busch. They are currently fifth for the three wild cards, so would be out if the season ended today, though that situation changes daily.

I always want them to do whatever it takes to make the team better. For me that doesn’t have to mean this year.

It seems like a stretch to think being a buyer will be worthwhile. Late career starters seem to be getting more uneven. Pen probably wearing down. Offense not very effective. A number of defensive soft spots, including behind the plate. No bench. What is an incremental improvement here or there going to accomplish? And at what cost? But, then, I guess snagging that WC slot is possible, and that is Mo’s goal.

Maybe it will really be just cleaning up the roster. You could call it buying or selling, so call it buying to ward off the empty seats. The everything nachos munching selfie stick crowd won’t know.

I don’t think it added up to anything resembling common sense to give the baseball to Helsley in a tie game to work the 9th and to work Fernandez in what could be argued the more difficult 3 outs in the extra inning. In my view, it’s no way to run a railroad.

Carlson cost us the game imo! Just don’t think you can make an argument for him being in the line up, ever! We have 9 better players every day, even against lefties I would not have him in there!

Steve, somebody here pointed out they were showcasing Carlson.

As I stated in the Trade Ideas thread I don’t think Mo is going to punt two years in a row and watch the Aug-Sep attendance crater. There will be some additions before close of business Tuesday.

Maybe additions and subtractions. More of a roster cleanup that can be spun as buying.

I could see Herrera and Carlson being dealt but probably not too many other 40 man types.
