Ozuna walks. Martinez bloops a single to short right and Ozuna aggressively takes third. He scores on Molina’s slow ground out. Fowler brings Martinez in on a double to right. That is an RBI on an extra-base hit. 😉
Cards up 5-1 in the third.
April 21, 2019 at 2:31 pm #88302Yadi and Fowler drive in Ozuna and Martinez respectively to give the Cards a 5-1 lead in the 3rd. Maybe this will allow Hudson to settle in a little better and give a couple more innings.
April 21, 2019 at 2:31 pm #883031982 willie, Thomas led the entire Cardinals minor league system in home runs and RBI last season. He can hit and is a plus defender in center. It may not be his time yet, but he will eventually contribute.
Wainwright saw him at Springfield last summer while on rehab and labeled him a future major-leaguer.
April 21, 2019 at 2:39 pm #88304A fly ball goes off Fowler’s glove in deep left center for a Syndergaard HR. Gotta catch that. Defense matters. Guys out of position and the ball finds them.
Cards 5-2 mid fourth.

Participantwell bwalton, that is good to know. im still not putting him in over Martinez. now fowler I have no problem. just look at the ball he just knocked over the wall with his glove. yea hes hit but still a liability defensively. Martinez out hits fowler that’s clear. plus while its nice waino is wowed by him, time will tell if Thomas can do it up here. plenty of guys hit great in minors but don’t do it in the big leagues.

ParticipantHudson has been rocky today but hes hanging in. the defense hasn’t been solid either. fowler knocked one over and the cano homerun, I believe he could have made a better effort to catch. ball barely made it over. maybe hit too fast but I got to think bader would have tried.
April 21, 2019 at 3:19 pm #88308The Syndergaard HR should’ve been a 4-base error on Fowler. And then the HP ump robs Brebbia of a K, so he has to get strike 4. It’s frustrating to see such incompetence at what is supposed to be the game’s most elite level in the world. The ump problem could be fixed.
April 21, 2019 at 3:26 pm #88309Miller looked shaky, but get the final out of the 6th after relieving Brebbia. Cards still lead 6-3.
April 21, 2019 at 3:27 pm #88310Big maneuvers in the sixth. Mets burn 2 of their 4-man bench as Shildt uses Brebbia and Miller. I’d like to see Brebbia shown more confidence. Score still 6-3.
Euro, doesn’t the official scorer make the call on the homer vs. error?
April 21, 2019 at 3:31 pm #88311Too much launch angle for Carp on the F-9.
April 21, 2019 at 3:36 pm #88312Brian, I would think it’s within the official scorer’s purview to judge the Syndergaard fly to be an error if he so deemed. But I don’t know if there is some rule that says a ball that goes over the fence can never be ruled an error, just like you can never assume a double play on a grounder.
April 21, 2019 at 3:43 pm #88313Mets hit their fourth solo HR (by Conforto) after a controversial play. Cano hit on the wrist by a pitch called a strike and had to leave the game. Miller with another shaky outing.
Inserted in a double switch, Thomas takes a hit away from Rosario with a sliding catch in short CF to help Gant get the final out of the seventh. 6-4 Cards.
Good point on the scorer, Euro. I don’t know, but since the famous Canseco homer he took off his head wasn’t an error, it is hard to say this one should have been.
April 21, 2019 at 3:45 pm #88314Conforto take Miller yard to make it 6-4. Thankfully, Miller “struck out” Cano/Lagares in the preceding AB. 😉
April 21, 2019 at 3:47 pm #88315Thankfully Thomas was in CF for the final out of the 7th. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been the final out.
April 21, 2019 at 3:48 pm #88317The call against Cano was a joke. It was obviously a HBP. Miller once again with an abysmal outing.
Thomas with a nice catch. Good double switch by Shildt.

ParticipantThat was a horrible call by the third base umpire.
April 21, 2019 at 4:07 pm #88319Roberto Clemente … uh check that … Jose Martinez makes the final out of the 8th with a nice catch.
Of course, it probably wasn’t that tough. Jose just has a way of making it look that way.

stlcard25ParticipantThe Cards’ HR/Fly Ball rate must be through the roof. It’s to the point where every time a ball is hit in the air, I expect it to be a homer.
April 21, 2019 at 4:16 pm #88321Thomas grounder was ruled safe on the field, but overturned by replay on a close play. That’s the way it should be done though, the verdict from reply came back quickly.
April 21, 2019 at 4:16 pm #88322Hicks on for the save. No walks please.
April 21, 2019 at 4:17 pm #88323
stlcard25ParticipantNice K to start the 9th for Hicks. Two to go.
April 21, 2019 at 4:19 pm #88324
stlcard25ParticipantGrounder that Wong snares and throws on for the 2nd out. One to go!
April 21, 2019 at 4:21 pm #88325
stlcard25ParticipantHicks is pumped up…104 and 103. But both were well off the plate. Now 3-0. Now he fights back to 3-2…Alonso knocks it into left center.
April 21, 2019 at 4:24 pm #88326
stlcard25ParticipantNow Lagares represents the tying run as Hicks tries to get out of it. A big miss with the slider, fouled off heater and nasty slider makes it 1-2…foul…104 on the corner away for the looking K!! Cards win!
April 21, 2019 at 4:24 pm #883271982 willie
Participantgood win.
