DeJong HAS to knock that ball down….and he could have.

Martinez comes in and allows two hits and a wild pitch.

As I’ve stated many times, you just never know what you are going to get with him.

Put me on the side that wouldn’t mind to see him go.

7 runs total in the 5 game road trip…. should that statement be moved to the rebuild thread?

I have been on that side since last year when he started worrying more about his hair color than his pitching.

Well, that completes the 0-5 west coast road swing. 3 1/2 back of the Cubs now.

Flaherty has to be pissed. He basically will have to pitch a complete game shutout to get a win.

    Fairly disgusting.

6 days ago this team was in first place w a lead. Now they are more than a series out of first. 7 runs scored in 5 games.

Lane Thomas is now nothing more than a glorified pinch runner. I wonder how many more promotions and give-aways the Cardinals will come up with now.

I’m sure it is perfectly normal for a top bullpen that is fully rested to run out 3.5 ERAs and 1.3 WHIPs with a 1 run lead in the 9th.

He’s easily the best defensive OF they have right now, and he might be the second best hitter of the group. Seems perfectly normal to limit him to pinch running and have infielders who are lesser hitters play in the OF.

Everyone in the stadium, watching tv, looking at the internet, and listening on radio knows that C Mart will blow the save, except one person. Why is that person the manager?

Really sad way to lose a game. Saw Carp get real again. Dexters producing well. Ozuna finally hit something again. Flaherty pitches a jem. An then we pull Gallegos on a roll to show how diversified we are in the 9th and give up the game. Don’t get too cute, nobody cares. Just win the dang game. Jeez!!

Gallegos needs to be the closer, he seems to be the only consistent one out there…

Don’t get me wrong, Shildt is not the worst manager in MLB. But he is average at best, and average is not going to cut it

Totally agree with you you on that.

But this particular game was lost due to lack of offense, not pitching. 11 LOB and 11 SOs is flat out unsat, no matter who the opposing pitcher is. Our guys are swinging at balls and watching dead red pitches go by.

This next series w/Pirates determines the season.

So, Mo and Mike, what’s the plan?

If what you say about 11 LOB and 11 K’s, and you probably are, that also reflects on the manager and coaching staff

What a gut punch. I saw that it was 1-0 in the 9th and couldn’t follow anymore after Miller got the first out. I had a feeling that they’d find a way to lose. I’m not sure if this team has the resolve to come back. It will have to start with a sweep of Pittsburgh.

well great game by Flaherty. hes been great most of this year, outstanding the last month and so. hes the only guy who is a definite lock to keep on this team. there are some guys like brebbia, gant, and mikolas that I wouldn’t part with but I wouldn’t consider them locks. just about anybody else could be moved or dropped and I wouldn’t be bothered.

We have gone from 1 game ahead of the Cubs to 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs since last Friday. It is hard to lose 4 1/2 games in the standings in one week but we somehow managed to pull it off.

I am sure the front office giving the middle finger to the clubhouse and the fans at the trade deadline had nothing to do with it though.

Mo said team performance leading up to the deadline would be an important factor in how they would treat the deadline. Cards were 13-5 between the all star break and the deadline and the FO did virtually nothing. The team is 1-6 since. Is there a large degree of causality? The schedule has been tougher since the deadline, but does that fully explain it? I heard more than one person say Eduardo Perez spoke on ESPN about how the Cards’ clubhouse was disappointed with the FO’s inaction at the deadline. I didn’t see that, so I don’t really know, but if what Perez said is true, that could make it more likely there is some causality with the recent collapse.

Anything out of ESPN gives me pause. They are paid to put out stories or embellish what they think are stories. There have been several interviews of Cardinal players since the deadline and none of them expressed any disappointment or even tried to hedge on the question. A couple of them were pitchers and expressed satisfaction that the FO thought highly enough of them to stand pat. Yes we needed a starting pitcher but people like Roark would not have been the answer. What we really need is a consistent offense, one that does not shrink when they see a rookie. For years the Cardinals have been unable to send opposing rookies to the showers early.

It was pretty apparent that one run would not be enough to win this game. The YouTube guys were pumping up the fact that the Dodgers have all those come from behind victories and that is one thing the Cards are sorely missing this season. Once again – lacking offense. I guess a summary would be: Our offense is offensive.

Will we make the playoffs. I am not counting on it but I also won’t be acting like the world is ending either. I like the games for the entertainment they provide but I will admit to once being a nut job on winning. Seems like advancing age has made things fall into perspective and put baseball where it belongs in the scheme of things.

How unnamed players allegedly feel about the deadline is nothing more than a cop out – an excuse.

While it would have been better if the front office had gotten help, these players need to look in the mirror and play better.

The first game after the deadline, the Cardinals thumped the Cubs, 8-0.

Then they went on a West Coast road trip and were soundly beaten by two better teams who look to be playoff bound.

Step back and think about what has really changed in the last week or so, other than they weren’t playing the Reds and Pirates any more.
