Pugs, I think you’re right. The Cards are due for a klunker and the lineups could make it ripe for that. I could see a 9-2 loss tonight, with the Cards winning a close one on Sunday to take the series. The silver lining with a bad loss tonight is to make it very apparent the rotation needs bolstering if they want to get serious. Of course, I’d feel better if the Cards win and they still bolster the rotation.
July 27, 2019 at 4:36 pm #99528Remember Diz wrote……I see that Carp is 0-6 at AAA with 3Ks, and now 0-3 at AA with a K. You have to wonder what has happened to his batting eye or form.
We may have seen the last of Matt Carpenter in a big league uniform. He might be completely washed up. Its happened before. Until he can hit well at AA or AAA then he has no place on the big league roster.

July 27, 2019 at 5:18 pm #99530Carp needs to get his groove back, might as well figure out what to do with the shift while hes in rehab. No one man makes a team. What happened to Dexter last night?
July 27, 2019 at 5:51 pm #99531Batting LH Fowler fouled a ball off his back leg (unarmored). Kind of like Carp has done on down and in breaking balls.
July 27, 2019 at 6:36 pm #99533Just get the ball in play tonight boys…..Edman wasn’t listening as he’s quickly dispatched via the K route. Cole is real real good, but it’s not like he’s the second coming of “Sudden” Sam McDowell.
July 27, 2019 at 6:44 pm #99534Sweet Redbird twin killing fueled by Goldy!
July 27, 2019 at 6:57 pm #99535How could the Pirates part ways with Cole???? It would be akin to sending Cheryl Tiegs packing back in ’80.
July 27, 2019 at 7:00 pm #99536Ponce settling in here…
we could be in for a very close game. I didn’t know Ponce was originally drafted by the cubbies.July 27, 2019 at 7:01 pm #99537That was a pretty lame first pitch hit to kill our 2 men on inning. Jeez if you can’t hit it at least make him throw ya a couple pitches
July 27, 2019 at 7:10 pm #995383 straight free passes with 1 out will signal the end to Ponce’s short outing. He’s lucky he’s not getting paid by the hour or he’d be eating beans & rice all next week. Enter the aforementioned Michael Joseph Wacha.
July 27, 2019 at 7:15 pm #99539Carlos Correa greets Wacha with a granny and it’s 6-0 Houston. Boy has Wacha’s career hit the skids. Next batter (Gurriel) lines a base hit.
July 27, 2019 at 7:42 pm #99540Make that 6 straight games for a Goldschmidt home run. Too bad no one was on base.
July 27, 2019 at 7:42 pm #99541That was pretty! Followed by a single at least 4 hits already. I guess hes not superman after all?
July 27, 2019 at 7:43 pm #99542Wacha doesn’t seem to have a role any more, or at least not a good one.
July 27, 2019 at 7:50 pm #99543Wow, I thought that De Jong hit was a dinger, a little short. We’re only a couple hits short of being right in this game. Both times w 2 outs. Need to get someone on lead off
July 27, 2019 at 7:52 pm #99544Wacha should be starting. Sure, he does allow HRs. But, he also can throw strikes. I do hate pitchers who walk people. Since the HR, they haven’t done anything with Wacha.
It isn’t the Cards’ night. Every pop foul gets caught. Every Houston pop foul makes it to the stands. That first inning was a nightmare on defense. Can’t catch a throw from the first baseman. Let an infield pop hit the ground, resulting in a run. MIshandled a double play ball Should have been zero runs in the first.
July 27, 2019 at 7:57 pm #99545Didn’t see the first inning ir DeLeons 3 walks. Those walks can really come back to bite you. Sometimes defense does fall apart but would rather have it early to catch back up. Gotta remember we are playing one of the best teams, top pitcher. Actually I’m quite proud of our Cardinals
Still want ’em to win tonight, Go Cardinals!July 27, 2019 at 8:38 pm #99547
stlcard25ParticipantPonce and Wacha are both fairly inconsistent right now. Waino is too. I think this points to the need for a starter to be picked up at the deadline. I’d like to see them get someone better than we have and then trade Wacha to someone who thinks they can work magic and move Ponce to the long man role.
July 27, 2019 at 8:42 pm #99550Wong makes a great falling away catch and throw to first for the car out!
July 27, 2019 at 8:56 pm #99552Wacha and Ponce de Leon are 27. I don’t give away young pitchers who have shown that they can get big league hitters out. I would rather they were here when they work out their problems. Most young pitchers can’t pitch anything but batting practice, as Mayers just showed. We have a bunch of older pitchers who aren’t consistent, and we use them in relief. Neither Wacha nor Ponce de Leon have benefited from 9 and 10 run innings like an older pitcher we know.
July 27, 2019 at 8:57 pm #99553The Cubs pen allowed two runs to Brewers in the 8th. Tie game, 2-2. New acquisition Holland got his one man, Yelich, but Cishek and Chatwood were not as successful. 4th Cubs pitcher of the inning, former #stlcards prospect Rowan Wick, got the final out of the inning.

Wacha and Ponce may be the same age, but they’re not in the same boat as far as their Cardinals experience. We can and should hold onto Ponce for a while as he’s got plenty of team control. Wacha, on the other hand, is a free agent at season’s end and is pretty much certainly moving on from St Louis as well. It wouldn’t hurt to see if someone is willing to gamble on him for a few months with a lotto ticket prospect for their trouble. At least IMO.
July 27, 2019 at 9:02 pm #99556Munos takes out Houston second baseman, never touches the bag. And I really mean toik him out, lije outa the game
July 27, 2019 at 9:04 pm #99557Houston closer right handed Quisenberry clone.
