6:45 p.m. RHP Miles Mikolas (0-1, 7.20) vs. LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-0, 2.08) FOX Sports Midwest // KMOX
April 8, 2019 at 8:59 am #86389I know it probably won’t happen anytime soon but if I were constructing the everyday lineup it would be something like:
1. Carp 3B
2. DeJong SS
3. Goldy 1B
4. JMart RF
5. Molina C
6. O’Neill LF
7. Wong 2B
8. Bader CF
9. PI might flip flop JMart and O’Neill in the OF. I’m not sure which is best in RF or LF. I wish we could jettison both Fowler and Ozuna and call up Justin Williams (when healthy) and Adolis Garcia to be the backups. This team would be so much more athletic.
Oh well, back to reality.

stlcard25Participantgscottar, you really think the team would be better with Garcia and Williams instead of Ozuna and Fowler? Wow. I don’t mind your starting lineup, but that’s a huge jump.
April 8, 2019 at 10:40 am #86403I don’t think we would be any worse. Our OF is currently one of the worst in the league IMO.
April 8, 2019 at 10:46 am #86405
stlcard25ParticipantThat’s an interesting take. You must be high on Williams and Garcia. Personally I think they’re both 5th OF types at best.
April 8, 2019 at 11:20 am #86417I think they would be good bench players for us while guys like Arozarena, Thomas, and Carlson get more seasoning. The main point is to remove Fowler and Ozuna from the equation and insert O’Neill and JMart.

ParticipantI think the reality in setting in with the fan base that Ozuna and Fowler will most likely continue to hurt the team. Despite the FO’s claims that they acquired quality ballplayers. Meanwhile the outfield defense continues to suffer and the offense is sputtering. I can only hope that either one will step up in ’19. Both would be a long stretch. Why not give O’Neill a chance to get some playing time to see exactly what he is worth?
Speaking of worth… if Mozeliak tries to move either one of the two, their present value will be exposed proving the fact that he made terrible decisions.
April 8, 2019 at 1:53 pm #864631. Matt Carpenter (L) 3B
2. Paul Goldschmidt (R) 1B
3. Jose Martinez (R) RF
4. Marcell Ozuna (R) LF
5. Paul DeJong (R) SS
6. Yadier Molina (R) C
7. Harrison Bader (R) CF
8. Kolten Wong (L) 2B
9. Miles Mikolas (R) PApril 8, 2019 at 1:58 pm #8646514NyquisT said:

That is silly talk. The situations are understood whether trades are made or not. DeWitt doesn’t make business decisions based on fan perception, anyway. His call will be whether to eat the sunken cost of his acquired asset in Fowler.
Coupling Ozuna with Fowler is a major stretch. This dies down every time when I point out Ozuna’s team-leading 88 RBI last year, only for it to pop up on another thread.
April 8, 2019 at 2:18 pm #86470Just imaging what a fully healthy, has his head in the game Ozuna would’ve drove in last year. Too bad we got the B team Ozuna for 4 months. Seems like so far were getting the same Ozuna we got last year.

ParticipantThis condensed story is from VEB today. Its not overly optimistic, it doesn’t cover up for management and its not silly at all. More and more Cardinal advocates are writing about what they are witnessing.
They are trying to keep it real. Its a 2 minute read for all Cardinal fans to ponder.

April 8, 2019 at 2:35 pm #86473858booyah, one would think it is not hustle. He surely realizes (or Boras could get through to him) how much money is riding on his performance this season. With so many other hitters locking down deals prior to free agency, Ozuna could be one of the plums of a thinning free agent market this fall.
April 8, 2019 at 2:37 pm #86474Ny, please post the link to the VEB story. It is against our Rules here to post articles in their entirety. Summaries and clips are fine, but not the whole thing. Thanks.
P.S. It would also be far better to do so on the Ozuna thread rather than here on today’s game thread. That way, if it is important to you, this discussion will not be lost.
April 8, 2019 at 2:42 pm #86475Plums? Is that a pun about him being overweight, Brian? 😉
April 8, 2019 at 2:42 pm #86476I think it is a term used by an older, non-hip person! (With the use of “hip,” did I do it again?)

The Cardinals seem content on playing someone who makes no sense to sign for next year… and its not about the money.
St. Louis Cardinals: Extending Ozuna suddenly looks out of the question

stlcard25ParticipantWhile I’m not thrilled with the results of Ozuna either right now, the narrative that the Cards could have gotten Yelich for anything near the price they paid for Ozuna is foolish. The price would have been far higher, likely costing us at least one if not both of Flaherty and Reyes, and 2-3 more good prospects like Kelly or Bader or O’Neill or Hicks or Hudson.
April 8, 2019 at 3:44 pm #86486Mr. Derrick Goold has a flattened forehead from the many times he has explained in utter frustration that the Cards were told that Yelich was NOT available. This was after Stanton rejected the trade and before Ozuna was dealt to the Cardinals.
Yelich was not traded to Milwaukee for another SIX WEEKS after Ozuna joined StL. During the hot stove period, six weeks is like an eternity, especially for impatient fans. The Cards were anxious to get an OF, especially after Stanton turned them down, while the Brewers waited out the market. That is fact.
However, I am convinced this false narrative that the Cards chose Ozuna over Yelich will never go away. Some people gloss over facts when they have a cause to push.
April 8, 2019 at 3:45 pm #86487Several people in Cards twitterverse have mentioned the horrible camera angle of the Cardinals games. Has anyone else noticed the differences and do you find it to be bad/horrible/awfu/etc?

No Marcell is good Marcell
No Miller is good Miller
No Pugs PBP….is a terrible thoughtApril 8, 2019 at 6:55 pm #86497Mikolas struggling again. I might of considered going for the lead runner there but it appears it wouldn’t of mattered.
April 8, 2019 at 7:02 pm #86498Time to officially work about Mikolas yet?
April 8, 2019 at 7:03 pm #86499I was just getting ready to ask the same question, fellas. When do we start worrying about Miles?

Well Brian I don’t think being injured has helped him. I’m more concerned with his aloofness. Either way were pretty much stuck with him and have to hope his arm and defense get better and his bat rounds into form. Honestly right now I think an .800 ops is about the best we can hope for and that appears to be a stretch given his walk rate and offensive production 4 out his 5 professional seasons.
I think were in for another frustrating season in LF. He’ll give you some tantalizing moments but in the end you’ll end up more disappointed than not. Like that right there!!! lol
April 8, 2019 at 7:10 pm #86501No, let’s keep worrying about Ozuna! Two-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the first.
