ParticipantYah, jj, WHIP is a worthless stat. Sure it is.
July 22, 2020 at 11:34 am #133263Lineup vs. KC:
Edman 4
Carpenter 5
Goldschmidt 3
DeJong 6
Molina 2
Fowler 9
O’Neill 7
Wieters DH
Bader 8Mikolas 1
July 22, 2020 at 12:26 pm #133267I’m pretty sure DeJong should be ‘5’ and Carpenter should be ‘6’.

Mike Shildt says Kolten Wong was scratched with neck stiffness he felt this morning after stealing 2B yesterday. No need to push him today.
Pitching plan for today same as noted last night, with the addition of Gant if needed to finish a partial inning.
Brad Miller ran this morning. Will hit in live situation vs. Gio tomorrow. Miller is “on the outside looking in” in terms of being ready for Opening Day. Wouldn’t be fair to start him Friday. Good possibility he will go to Springfield to get live at-bats. Could create more opportunity for Wieters as a LH hitter.
Today will be handled like a traditional exhibition. Substitutes later in the game.
Messages on behavior away from field is a constant. People are taking care of business so no need to beat them over the head about it. Have discussed differences on road – planes, hotels, getting to the park.
A lot of talk among the team in support of Black Lives Matter. Team will act in a unified manner in accordance with Players Alliance stance. Group wants to be together and not as a polarizing effort. Opening Day will create awareness with longer goal to help solution change. We will see how it works ahead.
July 22, 2020 at 1:55 pm #133274BLM is a Marxist Organization and MLB support of it is ridiculous.
July 22, 2020 at 1:56 pm #133276Please keep your personal opinions to yourself. Thank you.
July 22, 2020 at 2:10 pm #133279Opening Day starter Jack Flaherty.

Asked about the offense, he said, “Did you see my last game? I got my xxxx hit around.”
Knows guys have been talks with commissioner’s office on different ideas for opening day. Pregame will have something different. Will have BLM stenciled on mound here like in Washington. Don’t know about other teams. Good to have acknowledgement, to start talking. Dex says it will be a generational thing. Unity is something they all want. It starts in the clubhouse, with the person next to you. Great for teammates to have their back.
Asked if he will go all out instead of holding back some in April. Jack did not agree, saying he gives his best every time out, whether April or September.
Will pitch as far into the game as they will let him go on Friday. That game and rest of season will come down to execution. “I was pissed the other day how they got to me,” referring to the offense. Had a dogfight with every hitter.
Wainwright is an incredible human being. Feed off him. From day 1 there to answer every question and guide him along the way to be a better pitcher and teammate. He is a selfless human being.
It is great that baseball can happen but it is not meant to be a distraction. A lot still going on in our country. Cited Brianna Taylor justice as an example.
On kneeling, everyone has the right to do things their own way. OK if you do (kneel) or not. Some people take it politically, that it is disgracing the flag and our soldiers. Have explained it is not that. Frustrating to continue to have these discussions.
July 22, 2020 at 2:13 pm #133281I am not going to filter the news. But I am also not going to let this forum turn into a place people express their personal views about non-baseball subjects.
I do not know how much clearer I can be. I have already started to have to censor posts and I don’t want to have to do that.
Just follow the forum rules. It is not that hard. If you don’t want to talk baseball, then do not post. If I have to take away your commenting privileges as the forum rules state, I will. If I have taken down one of your posts, consider that a direct warning you have violated the forum standards.
If you have a beef with me, my email address is in every article I post or you can use the CONTACT US feature at the top of the page.
July 22, 2020 at 2:20 pm #133287So Jack Flaherty can spout that BS but I can’t speak the truth?
July 22, 2020 at 2:22 pm #133288You can say whatever you want elsewhere, but not here. Please stop.
July 22, 2020 at 2:27 pm #133290Maybe I don’t need to be a member of this board if you are going to silence me from speaking the truth and allowing this politically correct BS to remain. Jack Flaherty should be the one that is censured.
July 22, 2020 at 2:29 pm #133291Feel free to depart if you do not want to follow the rules here. It is your choice.
July 22, 2020 at 2:33 pm #133292Cancel me! You need to step up and act responsibly. You are an embarrassment to common sense.
July 22, 2020 at 2:33 pm #133293Miller officially onto the IL. I posted this on the Cecil thread, too.
We have placed INF Brad Miller on the 10-day Injured List (right ankle – bursitis).
Additionally, the club has released LHP Brett Cecil.

July 22, 2020 at 2:47 pm #133296I am curious to see if Junior Fernandez makes the roster or not. His Summer Camp has not gone well.
July 22, 2020 at 3:10 pm #133300The Brett Cecil saga has finally come to an end. He probably feels relieved.
It looks like MO has wasted another million dollars of the boss’/fans’ money, this time on Brad Miller. That being said, if Miller can get a key hit or two, or a homer when we really need it, all will be forgiven.
I think Shildt said he was only going to carry 13 pitchers to start the season, and that Woodford will be on the 30 man roster. If so, there’s no room for Fernandez. Flaherty, Hudson, Martinez, Mikolas, Wainwright, and Webb, Miller, Gomber, Poncce de Leon, Gant, Helsley, Kim, Woodford. I wouldn’t expect Woodford to be called upon much to pitch. He’s likely there only until Gallegos or Reyes or Cabrera get ready.
July 22, 2020 at 3:11 pm #133301Respect shown.
As Yadier Molina crouches to warms up before first pitch, he glanced toward Matheny in opposite dugout and each saluted the other

No to both. He said it would not be 17 pitchers, with the implication it would be 16. Nothing has been communicated about Woodford, though it does seem likely. We will see either after the game or by tomorrow for sure.
July 22, 2020 at 3:15 pm #133303Brian, I for one am deeply concerned about your censorship. I have admired your work here, and your voice has always been one of fairness. When the Cardinals chose to place a racist, Marxist symbol on the field, it became a baseball topic.
July 22, 2020 at 3:15 pm #133304Brian Walton, or whomever his ghostwriter is in this forum, should be blocked, also. All the owner hate that he spews around is just as politically charged as criticism of Flaherty for supporting Black Lives Matter.
July 22, 2020 at 3:22 pm #133306Nigel…great post and agree. Card is correct as well Brian…you are a huge disappointment on the truth.
JF is an embarrassment to me on this subject as a longtime Cards fan.
July 22, 2020 at 3:23 pm #133307How I feel about BLM is irrelevant. How you feel about BLM is equally irrelevant to Cardinals baseball.
If you no longer support Jack Flaherty or the Cardinals or MLB, that is your right. But we are not getting into Marxism or Democratism or Republicanism or any other ism that isn’t Baseballism.
There are plenty of places on the internet where people can post whatever they want. This is not one of those places.
July 22, 2020 at 3:43 pm #133310I support Jack and the Cardinals, as well as your right to run your board in an unreasonable manner. The issue is that we need unity, love for one another, and the freedom to disagree. You simply can’t include a topic in your article and then claim the topic off limits unless you want to appear narrow minded and unreasonable.
July 22, 2020 at 3:44 pm #133311In today’s game, Tyler O’Neill doubles in two runs, putting the Cards up 2-1 in the second inning. Still no outs and two in scoring position.
