For those unfamiliar with the 5 bagger concept. I proposed a new rule to the big bosses of MLB that mandates that a tater such as the one launched by Albert off of Lidge in game 5 at Minutemade will allow the hitter to trot around the bases and step on HP to score the run and then continue on to 1B to give his team another baserunner and an RBI opportunity to the subsequent on deck batsman…I think it’s a much better rule that the make believe, fairy tale baserunner at 2B in extras…
And the Reds bite the dust tonight. Milwaukee wins 2-1 in 10 innings. It was a scoreless game heading to the 10th and the Brew Crew scored twice. The 2nd run came home on a wild pitch by Santillan.
And the Cubs were rained out again tonight. This one was in the Queens at Shea Stadium.
I’ve noticed lately how Walker pretty much only gets thrown strikes on the outside portion of the plate. They are staying away from him and it often appears he can’t reach balls just a little outside. I hope he can adjust because it has kept him fairly cold lately.
Nothing amazing on the defensive end tonight, but quite a few quality big league plays to help hold the Diamondbacks in check including that catch by Church on a scorcher to CF.

It’s not just low and away 1TD. It’s middle away. Up and away. And low and away. Either he hits a weak fly to right, swings and misses, or rolls over on a grounder to the left side. He still hits one hard every now and again if they catch a bit more of the plate but I’m not sure he can reach anything more than 2 inches outside.
That was the exact sequence to Walker I was referring too except the last pitch came back over the plate a bit more than the pitcher wanted but Walker still swung and missed it because he was hesitant about the possibility of the changeup low and away.
I was always a little envious of McKay in the sense that after I turned 40 years of age I did chin ups and reverse curl reps until the cows came home and never could create near to those forearms that Dave shows off. I just looked it up and at age 76, he still looks like he can handle himself if things were to get dicey.
Yeah, Jnevel, you can almost always count on him to guess wrong once they jump way ahead in the count.
O’Riley O’Brien with another high pressure 1 run lead to protect SV to seal it shut for the W. Pallante now 9-4 and is this season’s new stopper…
Not as much on offense for us tonight. A bunch of singles. But good pitching holds it and we win our 2nd in a row. Good game.
O’Riley’s now tied for 3rd in the entire league with 19 SV’s. He’s been a little dicey, but I still maintain that he’s been far and away the linchpin of this Cardinal teams’ success.
At 9 W’s he’s tied for second in the entire league in that category. Ashby and Misiorowski are hearing footsteps and feeling the heat…
Is it still the consensus that W’s don’t contain much relevance when evaluating the overall performance of a SP’er? The reason I ask is that, looking at the league leaders in that category, I see names that are associated with arms that are not unlike those attached to Godzilla.
And I’ve been led to believe that RBI’s are a lousy way to evaluate a hitter, but nonetheless, the Redbirds are the only team in the Big Leagues to have two names among the top 10 RBI leaders. Walker places 2nd with 58, and Burleson’s way down there at 6th with 55 RBI’s.
No good news coming out of Cincinnati as the Brewers outlast the Reds in a 10 inning 2-1 final. All 3 runs of that game coming in the 10th with a grand total of only 5 hits and the winning run crossing HP on a WP.
