Not a good look for our 2 outfielders behind Pallante as the hitter is awarded a “double”. I always find the way they credit errors to be so odd.

Uecker’s philosophy to wait for the ball to stop rolling and then pick it up was spot on!

Keeping the Mets off the scoreboard for 27 consecutive innings in their park sure would be sweet. 11 down and just 16 more to go.

A bruise and a base hit. That’s what Peterson’s (pitcher) kick save attempt resulted in. JJ at 1st base and now strolls on over to 2nd base with the Herrera walk. One out in the Cardinal 4th in a 4-0 St. Louis ballgame.

Walker ramrods a 3 run bomb to left! 7-0 Birds. 52 rbi for Walker. He should be on pace for what? About 122? Most improved player in mlb honors?

Yeah, Jnevel, the baseball hit him right in the mitt. Most definitely a Das Boot E-8. Sometimes I’m surprised that all the pitchers don’t band together and protest today’s ultra liberal scoring decisions regarding the rulings on E’s vs. H’s.

Hope there’s no looming rain in the greater N.Y. area. Boy getting this one washed away would be a crying shame….literally. If this 7-0 lead were to get washed down the drain, I think I’d sit down and cry like a baby for a good 20…..maybe 30 minutes. But fortunately I do not believe weather will be an issue here tonight. To verify meteorological matters, it sure would be nice to have our resident meteorologist give us the lowdown……where’s Rat when you actually need him? Oh oh Mets Alvarez just whacks a 2 run homer.

I’ll never quite understand why, but TD’s “Das Boot” usage never fails to get me a chuckling. Well played TD!

It’s only the 4th and it’s never easy…Mets trim it down to 5 after the BB and HR.

Harry Caray used to say…”Ohhh, he boots it!” Come to think of it, Harry said a lot of things…Haha!

Hopefully the Mets scoring 2 runs will get our offense seeing red again. Let’s come right back and dent the scoreboard once again here in the 5th.

Oh my oh my…..Velasquez just misses drilling his 2nd round tripper on the night. This guy’s locker needs to stay intact with his belongings within it.

Cards tack on another making it 8-2 as we head to the bottom of the 5th.

After a 3-9 stretch, the Cards win 5 in a row and have a strong lead (7-2…now 8-2) as I write this. Encouraging to see them react to the roster shakeup with some good ball. I know there was concern about clubhouse chemistry.

I heard Kyle’s take that Mathews would be the 2nd best pitcher on the team, after May (the pitcher, not the month). He was rained out tonight, so guess we’ll see if he can come close to repeating tomorrow instead. Given how May looks, I wonder if this team might actually be dangerous in postseason. Rotation of May, Mathews, McGreevy, Dobbins, with Libby and Leahy bolstering the bullpen. A team for which there were no expectations. If they weather the 14 games before the all-star break, I would be really reluctant to sell off.

Pugs gave me co-honors on din-din last night, and dangled a prize to the person who repeats. The pressure is too much for me to report anything tonight!

My recollection could definitely be wrong, but I seem to recall a time in which it seemed as though almost anytime a player was able to somehow position himself close enough to merely graze the baseball with the leather he was wearing on his glove hand and not be able to squeeze it or complete the play for an out, he was charged with an E. Maybe that’s one of the reasons for all of those ultra skinny ERA’s that pitchers once routinely placed into the books.

Nice to see we are smacking the mets around again. The cards have had some mismanagement the past few years here n there but at least we havent been the mets. Im almost as happy seeing the mets lose as i am the cubs. Just almost though.

Walkers’s now placing his name all across the board among the batting leaders in either of the two leagues. He’s refused to taper off so far this season.

Hey Gags, I generally call out our Game Thread Din-Din of The Day winner by the 3rd inning, but forgot tonight. So you still have 15 minutes to get it in. I will say that tonight’s entries from Cardinal in France, Osuagec and Bling were not their normal scrumptious din-dins…..Bling’s is in the lead so far. So tonight would be the night to take home the prize. 15 minutes from now then I’ll post our winner.

Scoring should still be the same way. If u can get the mitt on or should get the mitt on it and dont, it should be an error. Pitcher shouldnt pay for fielders lack of effort, practice, or talent.

This obviously will be Pallante’s last inning……don’t you think?

    I love having 2 non-stressful days in a row – well, non-stressful so far.

If the Cards can hold at least a 6 run lead, it will be the first time they’ll have won back to back games by at least 6 since May 14 and 16 last year, when they beat the Phils 14-7, then the Royals 10-3. And if Pallante wins, he’ll be tied for 5th most wins in the NL this year and on a pace for 17 for the season.

Thanks, Pugs. I’ll say only that I had a strawberry shake for dessert to settle the nerves about the din din streak. I’ll keep dreaming of some day winning twice in a row….

Your strawberry shake din-din entry, though very tasty, falls just a smidgen short of winning back-to-back Game Thread Din-Din of The Day honors, Gags. It was right there for the taking for you. Blingster and his tasty chicken dinner takes home the blue ribbon today. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s game to see if Bling can be our first back-to-back winner. Well plated Bling!
