Leahy is getting hit really hard tonight again and again. Fortunately, several have been at people or held up long enough to be caught. Reminds me of watching a Jake Woodford start.

Burleson’s once again asserting himself as the best hitter the Cardinals have. In my view he’d be the ideal type bat to slot in front of a hitter that was capable of generating consistent power and production, but the Cardinals simply don’t have anyone who comes close to resembling that sort of a threat.
The Reds bullpen has completely imploded. They have handed this game to the Cardinals again and again all night long.
I can’t recall the last time I saw a Big League team feature such a lackluster performance as have the Reds in tonight’s game. It’s been a veritable barrel of monkeys every time they’ve taken the field in the visitor half of this baseball game. Despite playing on the road, they should still offer fans in Cincinnati a full refund…
Could be a really good night’s work for the Cardinals as the Cubs and Pirates have both lost and the Rockies are clinging to a 3-1 lead over the Brewers in the visitor half of the 8th in Denver.
I really like watching Dobbins. Lots of pitches in his arsenal just like Leahy but he seems to have better location. I say that and he throws a slider down the middle that just about goes for a 3-run homer, but just foul.
Bad news in Denver as the Brewers push across 4 runs in the visitor half of the 9th and now enjoy a 5-3 lead as the Rockies bat in the home half.
And he’s the Redbird pitcher of decision with the well deserved W. And now the Rockies tie it up in the home half of the 9th. Extras in Denver.
The Rockies couldn’t hold their sister’s purse, much less a lead…They now trail 9-5 in the 10th. Serves me right for having any faith in those bums…
Hat tip to Dobbins again. Tonight’s game was less stressful than the Cubs game he closed out but once again he gives the rest of the pen the night off. That has a lot of value.
We should start referring to Leahy as the opener and not the starter.
On that same note, who starts 5 days from now?Reading the game thread after going to bed when it was 3-3, I would have thought this was a 5-4, maybe 6-4 Cardinals win. The comfort level got pretty high there in the 10-3 victory. When 8 of your 9 lineup spots get an RBI, you’ll have a pretty good shot to win. Now go get closer to 10 games over today.
When is the last time the Cardinals had a home grown 3-4 lineup combo that looked any better than Burly and Walker?
If you add in Herrera, Noot and JJ, it makes a pretty good looking home grown top five.

Agreed. Interesting that they had Noot in CF in the Saturday game at the end. If they were to hang on to him for next year as CF and have Baez as LF and Crooks at C, this could be a team 8-deep, just 3B as the clear weak spot. Noot, Crooks, and Baez taking the place of Scott, Pages, and the LF rotation could make the bottom half of the lineup a lot more interesting.
