Cards.TV // KMOX // WIJRJune 3, 2026 at 11:01 pm #308947A little off topic here, but is anybody worried about Ohtani breaking Gibson’s 1.12 ERA record this year? Currently he is at 0.74

June 3, 2026 at 11:51 pm #308949I don’t want to count him entirely out, but right now he wouldn’t qualify because he’s only worked 61 IP’ed and the Dodgers have played 62 games. He’ll have to have worked at least as many IP’ed as the Dodgers have played games at season’s end to qualify for an ERA title. In any case, I don’t think he’ll come anywhere close when the final scores are placed up on the board on the last day of the regular season.
June 3, 2026 at 11:58 pm #308950And what’s really a little unsettling in regards to the Dodgers and the overwhelming firepower that they place on the field is that, in my view, Ohtani is their 2nd best SP’er. The Admiral is who they hand the baseball to for a 7th game…Haha!
June 4, 2026 at 12:08 am #308951I’d also have to say that Ohtani is right now the hands down pick for NL MVP and the odds on favorite to remain hands down until the votes are counted. If it’s indeed awarded to him, it’ll be his 5th trophy.
June 4, 2026 at 6:46 am #308956The Nootster will be activated for this one. I saw where he hit .233 vs various levels over his rehab stint. Last year with bum feet he hit .234. I figure he should do better than that now but will have to settle in.
June 4, 2026 at 7:50 am #308957NL MVP so far would be a landslide for Ohtani. 3.6 RA9 WAR and 2.3 fWAR for a total of 5.9 WAR this year. I personally use RA9 WAR for evaluating how pitchers have performed and FIP for how they will likely perform going forward.
FIP says Ohtani will likely regress to be higher than Gibsons ERA by a whole run. Ohtani seems to be a unicorn though and anything he wants to do he can do. Hit 50 HRs and steal 50 bases? Done. Want to set to win a Cy Young? On track for it.
If he is looking like he can set the ERA record they will pitch him enough to get there. He is averaging over 6 IP a start and his next start he will qualify again. They would certainly try to line it up for him to get 162 though by years end.
June 4, 2026 at 12:15 pm #308966I thought a starter had to throw 150 innings to qualify for the ERA title?
Has that changed?
June 4, 2026 at 2:23 pm #3089686.18 ERA starter. Makes me think we are blessed to have the starters we do. Someone always has it worse. Hopefully the offense doesn’t come out flat on Friday. Don’t know what to expect this series.
June 4, 2026 at 2:31 pm #308969An inning for each game played by the pitcher’s respective team to qualify. He’ll most likely qualify with the required workload, but keeping it at or under 1.12 at season’s end is an entirely different proposition. Incidentally, Gibson worked 304.2 IP’ed when he placed that number into the books at the conclusion of the ’68 regular season. I’d guess that Ohtani will come up a little shy of that mark…Haha!
June 4, 2026 at 2:36 pm #308970However, speaking on Ohtani’s behalf, Gibson never amassed 54 taters in a season…
June 4, 2026 at 2:42 pm #308971Yeah, Bling, you would guess that a veteran Big League bat would go on a bit of a rampage down on the farm.
June 4, 2026 at 8:17 pm #308978The Redbirds gain ground while they sleep as the Brewers lost at home to the Giants by a 12-9 final. SF banged out 20 hits in that game. And the A’s lead the Cubbies 1-0 in the home half of the 4th at Wrigley. Down in Houston, the Pirates lead the Astros 1-0 in the home half of the 3rd. I’m able to watch all of these games on a thing called, “The Big Inning” which features a quadruple split screen. It’ll probably ruin what little good vision that I still have…
June 4, 2026 at 8:31 pm #308980Crowbar’s getting booed unmercifully at home as he just stood in CF and stared at the night sky with his arms held out in a “what happened to the baseball?” pose while never moving his feet as he lost a pop fly in the lights at Wrigley which allowed the A’s a 2 run tater of the inside the park variety. The crowd at Wrigley field really let him have it as they voiced their collective displeasure. A’s now lead 4-0 in the home half of the 6th.
June 4, 2026 at 9:28 pm #308983The Phillies handed the Padres their 5th consecutive W today. SD’s now 1-9 in their last 10 games. I’m going to climb out on a limb and say that the Phillies will eventually challenge the Braves for the top spot in the NLE this season. They still have a lot of work to do, but I’m guessing they still retain enough talent to make a run at ATL.
June 4, 2026 at 9:39 pm #308984So, the Dodgers already have Ohtani and Admiral Yamamoto in their pitching rotation arsenal and now I’m watching a 25 year old LHP’er named Wrobleski work to the Dbacks in AZ. This lefty’s 7-2 with an ERA of 2.70 in 10 turns. This ain’t at all fair…I’m not entirely sure if the United States military could beat the Dodgers.
June 4, 2026 at 9:51 pm #308985A genuine shipwreck in AZ as Muncy and Vargas collide head on in a close play at 1B. Both players exit the game early. You could hear the impact all the way out here in StL…
June 5, 2026 at 9:49 am #308994Likely will see Torres optioned for Nootbaar today. There are lots of possibilities of who to remove, but Torres makes the most sense from a roster construction standpoint. Lefty outfielder for lefty outfielder. Keeps Velasquez as a right handed thumper on the bench. And it doesn’t limit the team to only having 1 backup pseudo-infielder in Jose Fermin. That’s why I expect it to be Torres.
I would expect Urias to replace Saggese in about a week. I’m very interested to see who Church replaces when he returns in probably about a week. I think it should be Victor Scott, but I’m not sure the team is ready to go there yet.
June 5, 2026 at 10:18 am #308995Din-din to warm up for a battle with the guys from Cincinnati tonight will begin with a nice cold cantaloupe melon, followed by chaussons aux legumes, a sort of vegetable turnover, washed down with iced tea. Dessert will be a bowl of fruit salad.
It seems management has begun to tinker, which should be fun to watch. Let’s push that thermometer back up to 10 over!
Rah Cardinals!
June 5, 2026 at 10:35 am #308998The Cubs pulled out a miracle win last night. Trailing 6-1 going into the bottom of the 7th they scored two in the 7th and four in the 9th to win 7-6. I hope that doesn’t ignite a hot streak. They get the lowly Giants this weekend.

June 5, 2026 at 3:29 pm #309026Well that’s interesting. Wetherholt didn’t play Wednesday, either, so it’s a 3 day break. Minor injury? Rest? Trying to work through something in BP? He had 6 HRs in April, but only has had two since.
June 5, 2026 at 3:32 pm #309027Is Wetherholt skint up? He’s been idle for 3 days now.
June 5, 2026 at 3:33 pm #309028You beat me to the punch, Gags.
June 5, 2026 at 3:44 pm #309029He had 6 HRs in April, but only has had two since.
You are not supposed to mention anything like that.
