Yeah, when Big League baseball players still played hardball, the catcher protected HP as if his only son’s life hung in the balance.

I did always love those HP collisions. But like Bling said, millionaires don’t want to get hurt and owners with contracts for millionaires don’t want to see their asset get hurt. The fans don’t get a vote in the CBA.

The bang-bang close play at HP was the most exciting play in the game. Especially on the base hit into the OF. The baserunner rounding 3B hell bent for HP, the throw from the OF, the roaring crowd on it’s feet as the runner attempted to score the tying, go ahead, or winning run and the catcher throwing caution to the wind and doing everything humanly possible to prevent the run from scoring as the dust and sparks went flying around the HP area before the HPU made the close call…It could really be a spectacular sight to behold from either a field level box seat or the bleachers. The new rule killed that play. Same with the baserunner cleanly attempting to break up the GIDP. If they genuinely want to draw younger fans, they should revert to the rules that were set in place when we were young and became hooked for a lifetime on Big League baseball.
