We need to take two of three against this Sacramento ball club.

Once they move to Vegas the historically abused Athletics franchise with have called Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland, Sacramento, and Las Vegas home. Wow.

I heard something about them not being allowed to use “Athletics” as their name once they land in Sin City. Not sure why they can’t but heard something about that.

The Athletics place 3rd in WS championships behind the Yankees with 27 and our Redbirds with 11. The A’s franchise is tied with the Dodgers with 9 WS championships to their credit. They also have the distinction of being the only franchise other than the Yankees to have won 3 consecutive WS. The Dodgers have a chance this season to be the third franchise in Big League history to accomplish the rare WS 3-peat this season. Not at all an easy task, but it’s my best guess that they retain enough talent do so this fall.

I wonder if they will spend their day off in San Diego, Sacramento or somewhere in between.

Their off day is in San Diego. Easy to understand why they made that call.

Yeah that seems like an easy decision as well. Although North California weather isn’t too bad either. My wife actually lived in Nor Cal when we were dating and it is so beautiful but incredibly expensive. In terms of somewhere to visit California is very nice. But it isn’t a great place to live.

Haven’t we heard enough about Sunday’s loss…. you’d think that the team would be anxious to get out of town asap.

I know BW….. I just was saying that’s probably how they were feeling. A nine pitch AB and then a HR Oh the humanity.
Oh well maybe the lesson of… it ain’t over ’til its over…. was learned the hard way. They should have spent the night in tents.

Players have to be tough mentally and not let things get to them so I imagine for most it was water under the bridge by the next day. That isn’t saying they don’t care but they have to separate what is done versus what they can do in the future.

My dad used to take me to A’s games in KC before they left. That’s how I became a Cardinal fan. They broadcast Cardinals games every night on the radio. I latched on and never was a Royals fan. Went to a party and Cardinals game in StLouis after college at mizzou in 1980. I’m still here.

Here’s an update on Whitey Herdog:

He examined her and said her heart, lungs, and pulse were fine. But the Vet did say her red blood cell count is way down now. Still very anemic. He didn’t say it but I assume that means it’s an “any day now” situation.

Fingers are crossed. Continuing to pray.

Whenever I think about those great A’s teams of the early to mid 70’s, I think of brash Joe Willie sporting his white cleats and the astounding Super Bowl lll upset of the mighty Baltimore Colts. I still vividly recall watching that football game. I guarantee it…

The A’s had four great eras where they were about as good as any team in history for a few years, 1910-1914, 1929-1931, 1972-1974, and 1988-1990. In between they also had some truly awful clubs, including pretty much every team in Kansas City when they were a de facto Yankee farm team.

Those Bash Brothers clubs had Canseco and McGwire, and neither one was their best player. Plus great pitching. A good manager too. 😁

Yeah, Bikemike, those TLR led A’s teams were veritable steamrollers that won 306 regular season games from ’88 to ’90. Most eveyone clearly recalls the monumental Gibson come from behind walk-off tater hit off of Eckersley in the ’88 WS to stun the A’s, but the upset that surprised me the most was the ’90 WS when the Reds swept aside the powerhouse A’s in 4 straight games. Clearly the A’s were the more talented baseball team, but Cincinnati simply caught fire at pricely the ideal time. In my view, that Reds/A’s WS drew all sorts of distinct parallels to the Cardinals/Red Sox WS of ’04.

Yeah, that 1990 Series was a shocker. There is a good documentary you can find on some streaming services about long-time Reds broadcaster Marty Brenneman. He talks about that ‘90 Series and how the Reds were big underdogs. Eric Davis homered early in game one and he said the Reds took that as a sign that “Hey, we can play with these guys”, and just rolled from there.

As that sweet little old lady used to say in those commercials, “where’s the beef”? Nary a din-din entry as we approach 6:15pm. I just returned from Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse after gobbling down a medium rare ribeye, mashed potatoes, asparagus spears, buttered mushrooms and absolutely no dessert…..yet.

On this date (May 12th) in baseball:

1926….Walter Johnson won his 400th game, defeating the St. Louis Browns 7-4.

1941….After 5 seasons of being called the Bees, the NL franchise in Boston is once again known as the Braves.

1955….Sam “Toothpick” Jones throws the first no-hitter by a black player in a 4-0 win over the Pirates at Wrigley.

1958….Willie Mays whacks the first grand slam in the history of the San Francisco Giants and also adds a solo shot in a 12-3 shellacking of the Dodgers.

1966….Lou Brock singles in the winning run in the 12th inning, giving the Cardinals a 4-3 victory over Atlanta in the first game played at Busch Memorial Stadium.

1968….Luis Tiant throws his 4th consecutive shutout, in a 2-0 triumph over Baltimore. Tiant finishes the season with a AL leading 1.60 ERA in 34 appearances for Cleveland.

1970….Ernie Banks drilled his 500th career dinger off Braves hurler Pat Jarvis in front of only 5,264 spectators in Wrigley Field.

1998….A Padres home game is rained out for the first time in 1,184 games.

2001….Marlins rookie A.J. Burnett issues a record 9 walks in a hitless gem vs San Diego.

2008….Indians infielder Asdrubal Cabrera completes the 14th unassisted triple play in ML history in a game vs Toronto.

GOOD LUCK TO THE SWEETEST DOG EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI …….WHITEY HERDOG!

Tuned in to watch the Springfield Cardinals while waiting for our game tonight. Rodriguez singles in his first at bat.
For din-din this evening we had chicken fried steak, roasted sweet pototo in the air fryer and some green beans.

    They got it Sunday.

I get we face a lefty. Urias would’ve been in the lineup if he was healthy. The other interesting thing is Ivan is behind the dish. Pozo living on borrowed time it appears.

Rodriguez is now 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. He has 1 error with a bad throw to second trying to catch a runner stealing. Throw was in time but short hopped the second baseman who completely missed it.
The pitching has been terrible for both teams with the score 7-5 in favor of Springfield. Braden Davis started and gave up 5 runs in the 3rd and got pulled.

Textbook hit & run executed by Herrera and the Cardinals, puts runners on the corners with no outs here in the 1st inning in beautiful Sacramento.

Walker pokes a base hit into left-center and the Birds strike first…..Herrera stops at 2nd.

Burly waves and comes up dry at a slider off the outside corner for the game’s first out.

Winn pops out to Kurtz about 15 yards in back of the 1st base bag in short right field.

Fermin blisters one into right-center for a hit….Herrera trots in with Walker gliding around the 3rd base bag and he’s going for it……the throw won’t quite get him and the Cards have quickly seized a nice 3 run advantage. Fermin takes up residence at 2nd.

Pozo shoots a liner…off the pitcher’s glove and it’ll find it’s way out into center field for a hit……Fermin will score making it 4-0 Good Guys.

Church flies out routinely to Butler in center to retire the side.

You see, they put a couple of hulking bruisers in the lineup and they score some runs.
