I HATE these Apple games!
May 8, 2026 at 6:29 pm #306904I have found a way to stream them via a pretty shady site, but usually works. Hope it does tonight.
May 8, 2026 at 6:33 pm #306905I’ll be able to watch the rest of the game when I get out of work.
May 8, 2026 at 6:37 pm #306906Only time in Arizona we drove through on I-40 in July. Couple hundred miles of primordial hellscape with desolate badlands at one end and death valley at the other.
May 8, 2026 at 7:27 pm #306907Baseball takes me to Phoenix twice annually, once in early March and again in early November for the AFL. The weather in November is wonderful. Nice enough to sit by the pool without the 100 degree temps. It can still get hot in the stands, but the AFL has no assigned seating so it is easy to move to the shade if need be. A lot of traffic in the PHX metro area, though, and it seems like there’s more congestion each year.
May 8, 2026 at 7:36 pm #306908We used to go to Bisbee, AZ in April for a few years to play in a vintage baseball tournament. Always a fun trip and the weather was usually perfect.
My parents did the “snowbird” thing for many years going to Arizona January-April. They and some retired teacher/school system friends would play golf every day.
May 8, 2026 at 7:40 pm #306909FYI here,
The Reds are getting beat again. The Astros are pounding them 8-0 in the 9th at Crosley Field. The Cubs have a 1-0 lead on the Rangers in the bottom of the 2nd at Arlington Stadium.
And thanks to that stupid AppleTV game I will be watching the Braves and Doyers from Doyer Stadium tonight. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch having some bar-b-q wings and a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. Then a couple of 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigars.

May 8, 2026 at 7:46 pm #306910On the din-din front, we got lazy and duplicated last night’s meal – meatball sandwiches. We had French fries with them last night but finished off what we had so no fries on this round.
A slightly more healthy version with just tossed salad as a “side”, and good ole cold water to drink. No Stag in the fridge, nor Falstaff, nor any kind of brewed ale or lager.
As for the ball game, I thinks the Pads prevail. We have been somewhat charmed so far with a zero run differential but a nice W-L record. Which means we likely either take off and become legitimate contenders and score more runs than we give up, finishing out at say 95-96 wins, or we settle back and become a .500 club.
May 8, 2026 at 7:51 pm #306911The thing next to your name is usually referred to as an “avatar”, Rats. But your description works just fine. 😁
May 8, 2026 at 8:03 pm #306912Thanks BikeMike, I couldn’t recall that term.
And Yamaha just homered for the Cubs. It’s 3-0 Cubs in the 4th now.
May 8, 2026 at 8:16 pm #306913Rush hour traffic in Phoenix in the 90’s was an absolute nightmare. I worked on the west side of Phoenix and it would take me well over an hour to get home(Chandler)……until I discovered this magnificent shortcut that sliced my drive time in half. My exact directions are foggy after all of these years, but I think it may have been 51st avenue that I took out in the boonies(completely avoiding the freeway), then I cut through this Indian reservation (absolutely no traffic whatsoever) and then through Chandler’s backdoor…….it a was wonderful stress-free commute home.
Some fantastic din-dins on the board tonight, but I think Din-Din of The Day honors will be going to Flood this evening…….nicely done, Curt!
May 8, 2026 at 8:52 pm #306915Haha…”Primordial hellscape”…Every time someone mentions the heat in AZ, I think of the LP, “Saturate Before Using.” To get a genuine sense of that infernal sort of environment, try riding through that hellscape in June on a scooter (motorcycle) sometime. It’s not the sort of an undertaking that’s advisable for cream puffs or cupcakes…
May 8, 2026 at 8:54 pm #306916Avatar? I always thought of it as a coat of arms…
May 8, 2026 at 9:07 pm #306918We made one stop in Arizona. It was just over the New Mexico border. The Indians had a tourist trap trading post with teepees just off the highway. The Indians were made up in indian looking garb and I heard one call to another: ” hey Darryl come look at this”. Darryl? Sorry, but Apaches named Darryl doesn’t work for me. We mounted up and high tailed it out of there. Didn’t stop again until Barstow.
May 8, 2026 at 9:09 pm #306919So far Canning has us fanning……3 straight Birds have gone…….make that 4 consecutive Cardinals have whiffed, Winn being the latest K victim.
Was his last name “Strawberry”, Bling?
May 8, 2026 at 9:15 pm #306920McGreevy chalking up the K’s too, having struck out 3 of the first 4 Pads he’s faced here in the bottom of the 2nd in a scoreless ballgame.
McGreevy absolutely perfect through 2 complete……utilizing 34 pitches.
May 8, 2026 at 9:20 pm #306921I don’t know Pugs. It was my first ever encounter with real Indians and I was hugely disappointed.
May 8, 2026 at 9:22 pm #306922Prieto leading off in the third.
May 8, 2026 at 9:24 pm #306923Grounder to second, jeesh. Needs more time in aaa.
May 8, 2026 at 9:26 pm #306924I went to an Arizona Indian store too up in Northern Arizona on a Navajo reservation and they treated me and my pal like royalty, Bling. I still remember the guy’s name too…..Alejandro. This was over 30 years ago. We bought all sorts of goodies…..like $200 worth, which was a pretty penny back then.
May 8, 2026 at 9:33 pm #306925McGreevy perfect through 3 complete…..I believe this fellow is here to stay. And he just seems sturdy to me. Tough to explain that, but when you look at him and his delivery, you get the sense that he’s not going to be anything close to injury prone.
May 8, 2026 at 9:35 pm #306926there’s no place on earth quite like Phoenix. Their crisp cool morning air is fabulous
We have the identical mornings here in Las Cruces, NM. But by 3PM it is 15 degree’s cooler. BTW Las Cruces was where John Waters’ classic, epic western, LUST IN THE DUST was shot 🙂
May 8, 2026 at 9:39 pm #306927Top of 4
Herrera- Strokes a base hit into left field, second time he’s reached……the only player in this game thus far to occupy a base
Burly – Flys out to straight away left field.
Walker – Raps a hard grounder, but right at the 3rd baseman who’ll whip it to 2nd for one, but the throw to 1st is tardy as Walker beats it out.
Gorman – Lines out to 2nd to retire the retire the side.
No score
May 8, 2026 at 9:40 pm #306928Love New Mexico…..you live in a beautiful area, Carter.
May 8, 2026 at 9:43 pm #306929So far an offensively challenged series with only 3 runs in 12 1/2 innings….and counting.
