Man Herrera had a pitch to make it three homers in a row on the 2-0 and let it go. Then swung at a pitch down but eventually works a walk.

    FYI here,
The green stuff isn’t too far from Pittsburgh.

If the game goes into extra innings the rain could be a factor.

Don’t think I have ever seen a ball stay fair like that! Crazy!

Seems like Winn hits a ton of shallow pop ups.

I’ve said for a long time that I don’t really understand why Fermin is on this team. That said, I do appreciate the professional at bats he has been taking since middle of last season. He’s not a good hitter. But he’s become a smart hitter. Good moment for him.

If Church can get a hit, maybe Pugs gets his prediction.

Nice 9th inning so far for the Cards. Good to battle to the end.

I’ve seen quite a few of those roll fair and come to a halt on the line, Bikemike, but I can’t ever recall seeing it happen for the good guys until tonight.

Seems like when it keeps rolling like that it always goes foul. But nice to see it hug the line this time.

    Now the big question becomes:

Can the pen hold the Pirates in the 9th???

Church goes fishing for a ball well down in the zone to end the rally.

Soriano in to try and nail this one down.

Glad I didn’t turn this one off after the sixth inning.

Soriano does that over sized “hat over the ears” look that some guys seem to do these days.

Before the rule changed and they outlawed it someone once mentioned to me that they never saw the fake to 1B throw to 3B pick-off move work. I told him that I’d seen it work several times at almost every baseball level from the little leagues to the Big Leagues. The only reason a pitcher occasionally used that pick-off move was that sometimes it worked…Haha! Players sometimes take a nap on the basepaths and then, BANG, you’re deader than yesterday…

This simply was a game we weren’t going to lose. But I have to admit that I was getting a bit nervous late. Let’s sweep these guys!

Walker runs down the last out in RF!

    4-2 Redbirds your happy final.

Could this game be a momentum builder?

    Probably not.

Time to feed Whitey Herdog and get ready for the Marlins and Doyers from Doyer Stadium.

Whew…..now that was an example of why you never take anything for granted in baseball.

Who was that Fernandez who was pitching for the Cards tonight? If he and/or Svanson can come back to form, things get more interesting. Keller going tomorrow for the Pirates? Hopefully he walks a bunch of guys and we can get to the pen fast again. Hope Leahy can get them through 5.

That was so close to a three run bomb from Church. He is suddenly seeming so much more interesting.

Wetherholt is heating up. Really glad to see him getting on base like he has been but also getting to some power just from good swing decisions and making good contact. He is a guy whose power will play up just due to his contact skills.

Great comebacks and great din-dins in the same day are truly gifts sent straight from heaven……and we got them both tonight.

Fernandez should get much of the credit for the win tonight. Having the last guy in your bullpen come out and dominate for 2 innings like that changes a teams’ entire dynamic. I also credit Pages for adding to the hope with a dagger in the gut of the Pittsburgh closer. Then the rookie follows suit and the rest of the team fell into place. It’s amazing what a bit of confidence can do.
