Maybe he thought tonight was the night to end the 0fer. Either way your options were limited.

Better get tomorrow. Pen is rested. McGreevy’s last outing was a bit of a dud.

About what I expected from Liberatore. Mediocrity.

9 hits and 5 earned runs in 5 innings is awful, not mediocre. With an ERA of 5.15 and WHIP 1.522 his season is not mediocre either.

Do you believe Liberatore gets one more start before the September deadline rolls around and Matthews gets called up to replace him in the rotation?

The good news is we have been winning at a 60% clip since going all in at the deadline and remaking our bullpen to acquire Caleb Ferguson.

IMO, there is nothing to be gained by keeping Liberatore in the rotation. I am confident he will be transitioned to a reliever for next season. That said, May’s exit opened a slot and the Cardinals can decide between Dobbins and Mathews who gets the starts. There is no urgency to have them both in the rotation, but I would rather see Dobbins first. To be honest, I don’t think I would call Mathews up in September. Adding him to the 40 man this year looks like a mistake to me, although it may be hindsight.

Dobbins already took May’s place. If you remove Liberatore, who are you replacing him with if not Matthews?

Bling, they already added Mathews to the 40 man. He started a game already.
