We were fortunate to win Saturday’s game. Gave the Cubs lots of chances. But this game has blowout written all over it. Fedde has been like Mikolas lately, a batting practice pitcher. The Cubs will be fired up after losing on Saturday and Fedde might join Mikolas in the record books for most homeruns allowed.

I am going to call this one 9-1 Cubs.

I just now happened to notice that the Yankees are 3 games off the pace behind 1st place Toronto in the ALE. They won’t like that in NY and it may not be too long before Boone gets tarred and feathered.

Yep, and the Cubs are in Gotham next weekend for a three game series. Them Yankers might really be hot by next weekend. That’s a possible sweep in the making.

I agree with Rats on this one, Cubs in a blowout. I am going to go with 8-2 though, so just a little better. But it will be along the lines of 7-0 by the fifth inning, and then garbage time the rest of the way.

As for the Yankees, after the hot start Paul Goldschmidt has really struggled. But he is not alone as that entire club has gone cold, especially on offense. They looked like a reincarnation of the 1927 version early on, but have come down to earth.

I’ve been out of viewing area last 2 games. Should see the rubber match tomorrow. Winning a series at Wrigley is a good thing.

Fedde vs Boyd last week saw a mound appearance from Hampson and a shutout lineup that managed 4 hits.

Sometimes baseball throws a 180° at us out of nowhere, and although steal one on the road isn’t exactly our calling card, it’s what the boys need, and wouldn’t a “W” be sweet.

At age 34, Matthew Robert Boyd is on track to having his best season. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Tommy Hottovy is hands down the best pitching coach in all of baseball. Prying him away from Chicago this winter would be a monstrous move vs our arch rivals.

Best Cardinals offseason signing? Pozo or Maton?

At face value it seems like it should obviously be Maton. But I’m not so sure anymore given all Pozo’s huge hits. One thing is for sure, it’s not going to be Barrero, which is who I might have suspected before the season kicked off.

Why is this ESPN game starting an hour earlier than normal? To give the All Star players an extra hour to catch a plane to Atlanta?

ESPN game so no go here as far as watching. That’s okay, I am getting used to Rooney and Horton and like those guys. Not exactly Caray & Buck, but they do a good broadcast.

I see Houston is separating themselves from the pack in the ALW. I wonder if Nado is thinking, “Dang, maybe I should have gone there?”

It’s not too late, BicycleMike. Paredes would make Houston a nice little DH. I think conditions are ripe for Fedde to pitch a decent game……and at the severe risk of sounding cocky, I’m seldom wrong on these matters. Either way this game will be a close one. Shouldn’t be a high scoring affair unless the Lake Michigan winds are howling out. Let’s call it 5-3……..boy I’m finding it impossible to pick a winner today……let’s do something unusual and just call it 5-3 and leave it at that, shall we?

Not sure why this game starts at 5pm CT but it isn’t because of the All Star Game. The Cards will be playing at Busch on Tuesday night.

Boyd vs Fedde sure looks very lopsided in the Cubs favor. Fedde has been bad lately while Boyd has been the opposite, plus the fact that the Cards struggle against LH’s. If we did somehow steal this game it would be a huge morale boost. We don’t have to play another road game until July 18.

Everything makes this look like an easy Cub win. I recall back 19 years ago when predictions for the 2006 World Series were jokingly “Tigers in 3” – basically saying the Cards had no chance. We end up winning in 5.

Maybe that sort of thing will happen today?? I am still going with Cubs in a blow out, but hope I am wrong, wrong, wrong.

It turns out the reason this game starts at 5pm is because ESPN is doing a Sunday night doubleheader. The second game between the Rangers and Padres starts at 8pm.

Oh yeah, what was I thinking???

    I was a week early.

    FYI here,
There is a line of showers and storms moving east from the Rockford area towards the Chicago area. From the looks of the Doppler Radar there is a chance this might all go north. Then again, the Cubs are the northsiders.

    Stay tuned…….

While taking a look at the standings I happened to notice that the Pirates have been scored on only 346 times. No other NL team has allowed fewer runs. I find that to be highly surprising for a last place team that’s 14 games under even.
