It might be time to get the bullpen warmed up. Mikolas is on pace to give up about 20 homers at this pace.
I’m in partial agreement, jim, in the sense that the tenure of the current Cardinal manager along with the Vern Rapp era are the two nadirs that I’ve experienced in my time as a Redbird fan. And I’d have to guess that when he’s all done, the current Cardinal manager will eclipse Vern Rapp in regards to attaining sole possession of the abyss.
Well, if there’s a sunny side to this awful carnage, it’s that Cubbie fans were denied getting to see their team tie and possibly surpass the HR record…Haha!
Maybe it’s just me, but I love these Apple TV games. You know, I’m still pretty bullish with this year’s squad. I’m pretty darn confident that we’re going to push a run across home plate in this series.
Mikolas has 68 pitches. Let him roll around in his own mess until he reaches ~100 pitches to keep from taxing the bullpen too much. Unless if they believe this pea shooter offense devoid of a .800 OPS hitter can mount a six run comeback.
I have actually watched the entire game thus far. Cubs have now hit 8 homers in 7 innings. Watching this game is what you would call cruel and unusual punishment.
The Cubs have some position player pitching the 9th. He just threw a 49 mph pitch. Good grief have some respect for the game. I don’t like this.
Oli did the smart thing and left Mikolas in there and then pitched King. They are made for one another.
The thing I don’t understand is why they didn’t stretch Matz out as a starter again when we had all this 16 game stretch. He’s going to have to be given away if they are selling him as a reliever. Would have been nice to have another starter lefty in the series against Chicago.
As bad as the position player was at pitching he was still better than Mikolas. Game over. 11-3 Cubs.
I’ve never liked when the team on the winning end of a blowout uses a position player to pitch. Anyway they are a team lacking high end offensive production and high end rotation performance. I’m not a big Oli fan but to his credit this team was better than the sum of its parts for the first half. But the water is now pouring through the cracks in the dam. I just hope any doubts this team should be sellers has been erased.
I will say again – they should have traded Mikolas when they could have. Now they are stuck with him and I guarantee you he’ll be in the starting rotation until the bitter end…
This is what they needed to confirm the correct path forward. They’ve had a few guys play well at times this season. That much is true. They’ve also had some guys continue to show who they are which isn’t very good.
They should DFA Miles Mikolas. There should be zero debate after today. Nothing is gained with him anywhere on the roster. Fedde shouldn’t be far behind.
Arenado should prep his suitcase for a move. He should be gone shortly after the all-star break. Same for Helsley. See if Contreras and Gray will accept a move. Include whatever pieces are needed to facilitate the moves. Return is secondary to clearing the veterans and their ridiculous salaries off the roster.
Lastly, they should fire Mozaliak immediately. Same for Marmol. Let Stubby Clapp or Descalso run out the string. And for God’s sake play the kids so you know what you have going forward. Actually commit to the damn plan you said you wanted to do.
I can’t believe I was dumb enough to actually buy tickets to Sunday’s game.
Texas Card: Don’t forget to add Gorman and Walker to your list of guys who “continue to show who they are which isn’t very good.”
You can only wait so long for big and tall to become good baseball players.
