It will be tough but would be a big plus to get one of these last two. After two sterling victories, a little of the positive vibes will dim if we lose the final two.

Man, that play Arenado made last night to end it was the same as a walk off hit. He has the runner bearing down and sees that the only way to get the out is to bare hand the ball and throw in one motion. Using the glove would have taken too much time and the game would have been tied, and who knows what might have transpired after that. Can’t overstate what a clutch play that was. He saved another run earlier in the game as well, while PCA gave us a run. That was the difference with the two offenses basically offsetting each other.

You’re absolutely right Bike Mike. I just watched a replay of last night’s game and that Arenado putout was a thing of beauty, the kind of move that makes baseball what it is and why we love it.

Yeah, it would have been an outstanding play early in a game with the bases empty, but to maintain his focus and concentration with the outcome of the game in the balance with the baserunner criss-crossing not more than 3 ft. from where he has to cleanly barehand the baseball and make the quick and accurate throw places that defensive play in the category of spectacular. He delivered with the golden mitt under an enormous amount of pressure to record the final out and preserve the W.

Is Fedde going in this one?

Yep, it’s Fedde, Rat. Let’s hope his start is much better than McGreevy’s effort last night. But I do hope McGreevy starts again for us in 5 days, as he should be a rotational mainstay for years to come. And boy is Helsley’s WHIP through the proverbial roof. You just can’t have a closer whom consistently puts runners on base such as he’s done this year. And since we’re on the topic of pitching, how in blazes can Matz be credited with last night’s “W”? Having an entity who’s criteria for performance recognition is that shoddy is ridiculous. It lends to making the W-L pitcher’s stat virtually worthless. Maton deserved the “W” last night.

And what’s for din-din one may ask? It’ll be a trip over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for a ribeye(medium rare), mashed potatoes, mushrooms and then afterwards take a wild guess as to where I’m heading to grab dessert? Rat’s nightly chocolate milkshake sounds like a winner too. I’d like to give that a whirl, but first I’d like to get one of those large metal blenders that was commonplace for making shakes back in the 70’s, as the taste was superb. I wonder if Rat has one of those for his tasty frosty chocolate milkshakes?

Wifey is having a girls night. She left a Bologna sandwich in the frig. At least it’s sitting on a fresh cantaloupe contrainer, and they are just right. Woe is me. Place to myself for the game.

Arenado’s play last night was probably the best defensive play I have seen all year considering the circumstances at the time. Just absolutely clutch.

Pugs, I agree with you on Helsley. Every outing is like a nerve wracking ride over a ricketty wooden bridge. You just never know when it is going to collapse. The biggest difference from last year is that his fast ball is getting hit hard. I wish Ollie would move him to the 7th or 8th but he probably won’t.

We need to keep the pressure on the Cubs. Don’t let them off the hook. They are a very resilient team but so is our bunch. I felt a bit deflated after the injury news of Ivan the Great but the last two nights have helped soothe those worries.

These next two games, at home, head-to-head w/the division leader. These next two could mean alot. Are we a dominant home team, that can contend for division crown and lock in a round of home of field advantage? If so, opportunity knocks.

I agree, gscottar. He and some other 3B’man make that play from time to time, but to complete that play for the final out under the immence pressure of that moment in time vault it over the top and into the category of a spectacular defensive play.

I’ve been sitting around twittling my thumbs today and just an hour to my east, the game’s two finest young hurlers were battling it out. I don’t know how I spaced it out, as this would have been a great game to attend. Misiorowski totally out-pitched Skenes in their first of what promises to be many head-to-head duels.

Something about those basic bologna sandwiches that can be scrumptious. I like mine with either mayo or yellow mustard, with 2 Kraft cheese slices. The cantaloupe with that is a very nice touch, JJ.

According to my source Walker sits with Burleson in RF and some 30 year old guy named Garrett Hampson manned up in CF. Saggese mans up at 2B hitting in the 6 slot followed by Gorman in the 7th slot at DH. If this info is accurate, the whiz-kid, boy wonder has really outdone himself…Haha!

Edit; I failed to mention that the Nootz starts tonight’s action sitting on the bench with Donovan manning up in LF and slotted at lead-off.

Melon lovers creed: a low pitched thump, and a large rough spot on the bottom where it sat and had the time to ripen, will never lead you wrong 😀

I see that this Garrett Hampson guy was just recently claimed off of waivers. I happen to think that he’s really Manny Motter in disguise…

I’m reasonbly certain that many are aware of another thread entitled, “Cardinal lineup still needs a little shakeup!” I give you none other than Garrett Hampson…Now that’s what I call prophetic!

I’m going to hammer this inane Garrett Hampson situation into the ground in the hope that he’ll bang out 5 hits and make two spectacular plays in CF tonight…

This Hampson guy played out here at one time. Sort of an Edman/Donovan type in that you can put him anywhere and he will play plus defense. But his weak bat keeps him from claiming a regular post.

I think I would have whoever scouts Missouri for the Cardinals step into my office if I was the GM….Misioroski was pitching at Crowder College in Neosho in 2022

Cardinals took Brycen Mautz 3 picks before Misioroski in the 2nd round.

Though this may be on Flores, b/c I think that was the draft they took like 7 left handed pitchers b/c the organization was short on them.

Drafting for need can lead to some big errors sometimes

I love cantaloupe time! I get ours from a local producer who in season comes to our weekly farmers’ market. Stocking up on Wednesdays, I get enough to kick off most din-dins for about five days. Yum. Following tonight’s juicy melon, din-din was grilled duck breasts, gnocchi browned in butter, and some fresh snap beans, iced tea of course, and finishing off with cold fruit salad.

Dare I dream of taking four from those pesky Cubs? Perhaps that’s asking too much and I should set my sights on three Ws. Once again first pitch is far too late for me, seven time zones away but I’ll catch up on MLB-TV replay tomorrow.

    Pugs?
Yes, I have one of those little blender machines that is made just for making chocolate shakes. They aren’t that expensive, around $50 or so. You better get one! They come with that metal container and that makes the shake even better.

I don’t see a lineup but are you folks telling me that Garrett Hampson is playing CF for us tonight in this one???

You dog,Rat! I should have figured you had one of those old, but fantastically efficient metal blenders. Thanks for the tip, as I’m ordering one tonight. And aren’t Cardinal in France’s din-dins to die for? I almost feel like pulling up stakes when I retire one day, and making a beeline straight to the South of France to rub elbows with Cardinal in France……and to hopefully weasel my way into him inviting me for the occasional din-din.
