Just a random comment, but I was reminded the other day that during the ’46 WS when he was a rookie and only 20 years old, Joe Garagiola went 6 for 19 for a .319 BA, with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored as the Redbirds won that WS in 7 games against the Red Sox. Not too shabby for Yogi’s boyhood pal who, as a player, never really achieved too much after that WS during his career. In any case, that WS must have been a genuine thrill for the 20 year old youngster who’s friends and family from the old neighborhood were most certainly cheering him on as they listened in on the radio broadcast.
