After Monday’s day off
6:40 p.m.
LHP Matthew Liberatore (3-6, 3.93) vs. RHP Shane Smith (3-3, 2.37)
FanDuel // KMOXJune 16, 2025 at 8:30 am #284907Maybe a chance to claw back some games over .500 against the White Sox.
We shall see.
June 16, 2025 at 8:36 am #284909I am keeping my expectations low. Last year, the Sox were the worst team in MLB history, yet they won their series at Busch. That was two of just 21 wins all season long…
June 16, 2025 at 8:40 am #284910These guys clipped us 2-3 games in St. Louis last year. I would normally say we need to return the favor this year, but 2-3 vs these south siders is not good enough. We need the sweep……and we need it bad.
June 16, 2025 at 10:14 am #284913What is a fair number to be out of the last wildcard spot and teams between would you ladies and gentlemen say they need to be on July 20th to be in full sell mode?
Assuming the no trade clauses are upheld, the following should be gone for best offers out there…
Helsley- decent package, maybe a top 100 guy
Maton- cheap and 8th inning guy, decent package
Fedde- pray for run support
Mikolas- innings eater
Matz – turned into a BP weapon from the left sideLet’s see what the kids have…. there is not enough talent overall for a deep playoff run even if they sneak in.
June 16, 2025 at 11:54 am #284920I’ll watch ’em, I’ll love ’em, I’ll cheer them on as always, but I’ll not waste any intellectual energy dreaming about playoffs.
June 16, 2025 at 4:51 pm #284932I hadn’t realized that the White Sox and Cubs were dead even with 3 WS championships apiece. And although I don’t guess league pennants mean too much anymore, I also wasn’t aware that the Cubbies have claimed 17 NL pennants which is only 2 less than the Cardinals who’ve won 19 NL pennants. In any case, the Cubbies are really lousy in WS play, with a 3-14 record in WS play which is a W/L pct. similar to the ’25 Rockies…
June 17, 2025 at 1:37 pm #284958The atmospheric conditions in Chicago tonight look favorable. Doesn’t appear to be any green stuff in and around Chicago. At least as I type this. Then again, first pitch is five hours away so we shall see.
Din din today was a trip to Subway. A tuna salad sandwich on wheat bread, some mayo, lettuce, and onions. And a few baked beans from the Deli at the grocery. Along with an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew and then a chocolate shake for dessert.
Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch tonight about 7:10 for the first pitch from Crosley Field as the Minnesota Twins face the Cincinnati Reds. Then later we will switch over to watch the Cards/WhiteSox from Commiskey Park. Then later tonight we will catch the Padres/Doyers from Doyer Stadium in Los Angeles. And we will have some chili and Ruffles potato chips for our late night snack. Then a couple of 7×50 Palma Real cigars.

June 17, 2025 at 2:53 pm #284960Today is June 17th and the first game of the season that the Cardinals play against a team that represents the city of Chicago is named the White Sox. This fact can only lead me to believe that the world in which we live is indeed a genuine ball of confusion…”And the band played on!”
June 17, 2025 at 4:28 pm #2849661. Donovan 2B
2. Winn SS
3. Herrera DH
4. Contreras 1B
5. Burleson RF
6. Arenado 3B
7. Nootbaar LF
8. Pages C
9. Scott CFLiberatore P
June 17, 2025 at 4:45 pm #284967Going to the game again tonight! Hopefully I will be 2 and 0 on this trip!
June 17, 2025 at 5:28 pm #284971Anybody want to bet that this Shane Smith guy shuts the Cardinals down?
June 17, 2025 at 6:56 pm #284972I’d say this is a pivotal turn in the rotation for Liberatore. He’s been rapidly trending in the wrong direction as witnessed by 3 consecutive losing decisions in which he’s allowed 17 ER’s in 14 IP’ed in those 3 turns. He’s shown promise in the past only to hit a wall and cease to be effective in every season of his young career, so hopefully he’ll break with tradition for tonight’s game and get back on track.

Pugger, these bums may be just what we need to get back on track 🙂
June 17, 2025 at 7:19 pm #284974All those little paper cuts literlly bleed the White Sox white for a big 5 run 2nd inning. There’s your lead, Matthew.
June 17, 2025 at 7:46 pm #284975After a day off and Gorman having played well lately, today against a righty he is riding the pine. I don’t know who I would have riding the pine instead of him, but they need to make sure he is getting 4 starts a week. If anything comes of the trade deadline it needs to be sorting out the Gorman, Herrera, Burly musical chairs for DH.
Although Herrera should be getting at least half of his starts at C to me which does help. His blocking and pitch framing are both average (same as Pages) while obviously his arm isn’t as good as Pages. Game calling could likely be improved for Herrera, but that is the item the coaching staff has the most influence on in their game prep and laying out plans for each pitcher/hitter matchup
June 17, 2025 at 7:52 pm #284976Herrera robbed of an opposite field HR. If Michael A. Taylor had been good at anything in his career it has been his defensive highlights
June 17, 2025 at 7:54 pm #284977That was a fun statement. “Defense like that you can see why Shane Smith has only allowed 4 HRs this year”. I realize a HR was stolen then, but that statement in general is an oxymoron as I’m guessing that is the 1st HR he has had robbed while pitching this year.
June 17, 2025 at 7:56 pm #284978I realize the White Sox lineup is quite bad, but Liberatore looks better tonight so far.
One thing looking at Liberatore arsenal is maybe he needs to dump the cutter. He has only been throwing it the last 2 years, and it has consistently been hit hard. .432 BA with a .622 SLG in 2024 against the cutter and this year .405 BA and .649. The pitch is by far his worst and he already has a deep arsenal with 5 other pitches.
June 17, 2025 at 8:04 pm #284980Hey Dom-Did you know that when you watch Burleson bat in the reflection of the mirror when your in the bathroom, he’s right handed?
June 17, 2025 at 8:07 pm #284981ATM-Gorman should be playing. Oli no bueno.
June 17, 2025 at 8:08 pm #284982He looks real good while on autopilot and working with a 5 run lead. Hopefully while enjoying this nice and comfortable cushion he can lean back and pitch thru 7 full innings.
June 17, 2025 at 8:10 pm #284983Haha…Yeah, KCB, I knew that…Shady told me about that a long time ago.
June 17, 2025 at 8:10 pm #284984Sloppy throw by Victor getting lazy allows the runner to take a bag on that fly ball
June 17, 2025 at 8:10 pm #284985And now a run scores because of that sloppy throw.
