After sitting at just 1 game off the pace 2 weeks ago the Cardinals have seen the gap in the NLC grow to 5 games in back of the first place Cubbies who don’t seem to be slowing down. I’d say the Redbirds need a W against a good KC team tonight to ward off the possibility of falling 6 games back of the Cubbies who get another game against a sub .500 team in DC. The Brewers are also playing well and enjoy a comfortable 6-1 lead in the 9th at CIN and are poised to move into a tie for 2nd place in the NLC. In any case, it’s my view that the Cardinals can’t afford to allow anymore of an increase in distance from the Cubbies until we finally play them sometime in the next 3 or 4 years…

Unfortunately by the time we see the Cubs we may be too far behind to catch them even if we get a sweep. As each day passes it is becoming more realistic to check the wild card standings instead of the NL Central standings. I know that us guys from a certain generation don’t like to do that but it is what it is. Hey a couple of years ago the third wild card team (Dbacks) made it to the world series so you never know.

Yeah, the Cardinals have been on both ends of a WC team that goes on to claim a WS championship. A real nice ’11 WS and a disastrous ’04 WS. So like you pointed out, gscottar, “youneverknow”…

I don’t know what’s in store for game time, but the air raid sirens at the firehouse down the street went off about 5 minutes ago and my chief meteorologist AKA the bay window tells me that it looks like we’re about to get hammered with some wet stuff out here a few miles west of the ballpark.

Appreciate the update on the bay window Dom, but Rats may not like his toes stepped on! 😉

Haha!…I have no choice but to utilize the bay window, but only because the only thing I know about a Doppler is that it sounds like a jam shot, wounded quail that falls into shallow RCF for a base hit…

All jokes aside, I could ride a kayak on the rapids that are blasting down our little street right now and I’ve been closely monitoring the 4 inch drain at the foot of the flight of steps that lead to the basement door. If I don’t keep an eye on it and allow the cage over the top of the grate get to jammed up with yard debris, lots of real bad words ensue…

Sunny and warm here in SW Indiana. Temps in the mid 80s. Just got back from the Gasthof and having my late lunch.

We are, however, forecast for rain starting early this morning. And over the next day or two perhaps some heavy rain.

Just when the ground was getting dried out we have to have another deluge. I want some warm, dry weather!

Milwaukee beat the Reds today. 9-1 Brewers your final from Riverfront Stadium. I guess I will be forced to watch the Cubs/Nationals game tonight from RFK Stadium. Then later tonight switch back and forth between the Padres/Giants and Mets/Doyers.

Hopefully they can get 2 games in tomorrow. It’s been a soupy spring and early summer. I just hope we don’t have to pay for it in the form of blistering 100 degree jungle boogie weather thru July and August. I ain’t real crazy about spending all my time in purgatory or sending the power company $300 a month…

The Nationals do the Cards and rest of the NL Central a favor tonight. They beat the Cubs 2-0 at RFK Stadium.

Tucker didn’t play the last two games for the Cubs. Some sort of injury. He did pinch hit in the top of the 9th with the tying runs on and grounded out to end the game.

The primary reason the Cubbies finally lost wasn’t because of the absence of Tucker. They lost because Pete Crowbar went 0-4 with 3 K’s…The Wrigley faithful are already placing Crowbar into the HOF.

I happened to notice that the Cubbies have no less than 7 different pitchers who have recorded a SV this season and no one who’s collected more than 5 SV’s. Looks like Counsell has been working with a Whitey sort of setup from the mid 80’s. In any case, hopefully the lack of an etched in stone closer will prove to be a chink in the Cubbie’s armor as the season progresses because, other than that aforementioned oddity, the Cubbies look to be more than a little balanced all across the board and it looks like they’ll be difficult to catch. Especially if they play the Rockies another 20 to 25 times this season…

The Cubs are in Detroit this weekend. Plus they have to face Skubal on Friday night.

They finally play a good team. Hope they get swept.

After a 3 up, 3 down first, Willson draws a walk as the leadoff batter from the cleanup spot (where obp matters).

A walk to Herrera puts a risp for Arenado. K swinging.

Burly vs the lefty, runners 1st and second and Burly hits into 6-3, and runners advance.

    Vilade w/2 risp… f8
    1-0 KC after two

Royals are threatening in the 3rd.

1st and 2nd with nobody out.

    Woe are the Redbirds.

    No chance.

    UPDATE:

    2-0 in the 5th.

Once again we can’t score any runs.

I keep telling everybody that this team has nobody that can hit.

    Get used to this folks.

It’s going to be a long while before it gets better.
