I watched that game and recall that the Phillies came back to tie it up later in the game. Arenado bailed the team out in the 9th with his 2nd tater of the game.
Just checked the Doppler Radar. Looks like there is rain south of the Philadelphia area but at this point it looks like Connie Mack Stadium will be dry for tonight’s titanic struggle.
However, first pitch is over five hours away so I will check the meteorological conditions later this afternoon.
And it’s funny. On Yahoo Sports/MLB nothing is mentioned about the eight game winning streak. They mentioned the Twins winning streak but nothing about St. Louis.

The rain that was south of Philadelphia appears to still be heading north. At first pitch it should be getting close to the DC area. Not sure if it’s going to impact the Cards/Phils tonight.
Schmidt was KingKong. Also involved in my favorite Cardinal play ever.

For what seemed like an entire lifetime, no one came anywhere close to frightening me more when they were holding a bat in their hands than Mike Schmidt. He was a genuine monster. I also recall many times when, on TV or radio broadcasts, I could clearly hear Philly fans booing the great 3B’man. I remember one HR that I saw him hit off of Forsch at Busch Memorial during a workweek day game that cleared the LF wall in literally a blink of an eye. We were sitting on the 3B side of the ballpark at least 200 ft. from where the line drive left the playing field and you could clearly hear the loud thud as it collided into a vertical concrete support column before bouncing back onto the artificial surface. It was almost as if he were intentionally trying to do damage to the ballpark. At any rate, I was happy when Mike Schmidt retired.
Before the 1-2-3 GIDP, I remember thinking, this is where we blow the lead in the NLE. “Why did it have to be this guy?”…Haha!
I just now noticed another nice touch to these road navy blue uniforms is the black belt. I mean, let the Phillies be the team that wears a silly red belt…
Met Mike Schmidt a couple of years ago and he signed an SI for me. I told him I loved how Harry Kalas would say in that baritone voice, “Michael Jack Schmidt”. Schmidt kind of laughed about that.
He was the best third baseman in most of our life times. I recall one Cardinals-Phillies game – not sure the year – where we were late in tie game and threatening to score, and someone hit a screamer down the third base line that Schmidt made the play on to keep us from scoring, and Jack Buck said, “He just saved this game.” Sure enough the Phils won in extras.
Won’t find many bargains in this Philly line-up. Harper, Schwarber, Castellano, Realmuto and Bohm in succession doesn’t really afford a pitcher any air.
