“Yeah, the force at HP was nonexistent from the time the baseball was put into play. Bad decision by the 2B’man.”
Yup. Brendan cost the team a run by his boner. A lot of braindead baseball tonight (birdbraindead?). Arenado’s inexcusable running blunder, the manager’s repeated ongoing timidity re the tactical use of the stolen base, and of course Donovan’s aforementioned bizarre fielding choice.
If Victor Scott steals third base with one out in the 2nd inning, Masyn Winn’s fly ball is a sac fly. (If you have an incredible basestealing weapon, what better time to use it than man-on-second-and-one-out?) If Siani runs for Walker in the 8th and steals second, then Victor’s bloop single plates the go-ahead run.
And one other one, that’s more a quibble. Removing Herrera after six innings felt weird at the time, with such a small lead in the game. And whaddayaknow, Pages came up with two on and two out in the 9th….
For an incompetent manager, Marmol’s actually done a fine job through four games with pitching changes and lineup construction. I’d give him a B+ or A- for both. But tonight, the granular in-game stuff? Wow, he was absolutely terrible. Wrecking ball terrible.
March 31, 2025 at 10:43 pm #278518Speaking of which, I can recall a couple of bygone eras when 20K to 25K fans at Busch Memorial was considered a nice gate count. And I’ve sat in on many games in which I was one of less than 10K Redbird fans in attendance. Human nature is no different now than it was 1000 years ago and unless a decent product is presented on the field of play, it won’t be too very long before the gate struggles to click the turnstiles.
March 31, 2025 at 10:46 pm #278519Can somebody explain to me why Donovan was playing BACK at 2ndbase when the Angels had the bases loaded???
He had to come in on the ball and then threw home. If he would have been playing IN he would have got the runner out at the plate.
Marmol?????
March 31, 2025 at 11:01 pm #278520The way that weak GB left the bat gave me the instant impression that there was no chance for a force at HP. It would have been real nice to cut down the lead run, but I immediately thought to myself, “Get the sure out.” I entirely understand the mindset and the reflexive action to try for the force, but I just didn’t think there was any way that the play was there to be made.
Edit; And of course, I’m watching from the couch in the den whilst laying on my old and lazy backside, and not from the right side of the IF of a Big League playing field during extra innings of a tie game…Haha!
April 1, 2025 at 1:42 am #278521No thanks. We pre-decided to NOT even accept free tickets this season. We’ve scaled back our committment as Bill has.
Can you scale back posting on this board then? As we would want you to.

You did know Paris was 2 on stolen bases vs Herrera? That’s the reason why he was removed. He still can’t throw anyone out.

That is uncalled for. Disagree, but be civil about it.

April 1, 2025 at 2:23 pm #278542During the 1978 season the attendance for all 3 games of a 3 game series vs. the NY Mets at Busch Memorial Stadium averaged just a shade over 5K per game. The total attendance for those 3 games was 15,199. My younger brother and I were two of the 3,912 fans in attendance who watched the final game of that 3 game series…Haha!

Bring back the memories?
April 1, 2025 at 3:12 pm #278546Thanks, Rats! I had already looked that game up and had remembered the precise date was Sept. 21 of ’78 only because it was my brother’s 18th birthday…Haha! Back then we also shared season tickets for the NFL football Cardinals or “The Big Red” as they were known back then. We used to attend a quite a few sporting events with each other and the gang of fellow hooligans that we mutually associated with…Haha! I’d sure go back to those days in a heartbeat!
