Need to get on a roll! It would be great to see the Redbirds sweep the Bucs and return to .500!

The Pirates are a struggling last place team, but they won 2 of 3 from the Cardinals at PNC in April, so the Redbirds shouldn’t expect these 3 games to be found in the bargain aisle. It’ll also be interesting to see what the gate count is for these three games against a Pirate team that could be termed a less than ideal draw for a Mon. thru Wed. series. The Redbirds are currently averaging right at 29K per game if you believe the numbers in the box scores.

There will be at least 5 there tonight as I am bringing 4 with me. Maybe we will get the park to ourselves?

Haha…Good for you, Jnevel! I’m reasonably certain that you and your 4 confederates will generate the sort of loud and rowdy noise that will have the reading on the decibal meter on par with an airport tarmac…

Earlier this morning I attempted to glance at the MLB hitting leaders on BR and something strange and peculiar occurred. I thought maybe they were having trouble with their web-site because when I took a look at hitting leaders there seemed to be only one name across the entire board in every last one of the hitting categories…JUDGE.

The good news is, we could lose all three games against the Pirates and still wouldn’t fall into the cellar. Better news is, if we sweep the Pirates we will be perfectly mediocre. And for the optimists among us, some of these guys in the redbird suits are fun to watch and make one dream of someday…
    Rah Cardinals!

1TD – That’s because every offensive category in baseball is currently under legal review.

I was checking the team’s stats….. May 5th….. the team has exactly one triple. Could that be right?

I think one topic up in the F.O. is what to do about Walker. They can’t send him to AAA again…. it didn’t help in the past. His body language shows a lack of confidence in himself. Can’t anyone help him out?

Remember when we could have traded Walker and Winn for Juan Soto?

Anybody regret that trade now? It would basically have been Winn for Soto.

And the weather looks okay for tonights contest at Busch III. Might be a little on the cool side but not really cold or anything. Temps about 60 at first pitch.

It would have been a lot more than Walker and Winn. Still, very few of those prospects have panned out to date. Our development system was admittedly (by Mo) broken. Hopefully the system will be fixed before long. Lots hinges on Chaim.

Someone mentioned the fact that the Cardinals as a team have managed only one triple thus far this season, of which Victor Scott is the proud owner of that solitary 3 base hit. I’ve always thought it was well worth noting that former Redbird Tim McCarver is the only catcher in history to have ever led the entire Big Leagues in triples at season’s end. He did so during the ’66 season when he burned around the base paths for 13 of them. Carlton Fisk is the only catcher to ever lead the AL. Fisk managed 9 of them in ’72. Obviously 13 triples is a lot for a catcher, but I think that the more astonishing fact concerning McCarver’s 13 triples in 1966 is that he managed to outclass and outrun fellow teammate Lou Brock who placed second to McCarver that season with “only” 12 triples…You’d think that the great Lou Brock could out-triple a dang catcher…Haha!

As was stated the last time this came up it was Carlson and maybe Gorman that was supposed to have been traded for Soto. Moot point because the Cards weren’t giving Soto a $765M contract and I doubt he was giving us a discount.

The Cards enjoyed the good PR around Soto. Almost had Stanton too, lol!

Must be sink or swim for Walker, no demotion yet. Shame he abandoned his approach.

Definitely glad we did not make the deal for Soto as we would have lost those guys we would have dealt, and not been able to keep Soto. But then maybe we would have done like San Diego and flipped him for some prospects or players that turn out to be better than what we would have given up.

With Walker, a lot of his issues seem to be pitch selection. I think Brown has helped his mechanics. But he lets too many hittable pitches go and swings and pitches down and out of the zone. He has missed on some hittable pitches as well, but if he can consistently get better at what he swings on, and lets most pitches out of the zone go then the natural power and ability will start to show.

The Pirates have lost 8 of their last 10, and couldn’t manage 5 RS in any of those games. Our lineup is scoring, we’re home, and we have a nice win streak started. If they’re going to get back to .500, earn it.

Well, it’s me and about 800 others here at the stadium to start the game.

Man, I know it’s just now first pitch and also a Monday, but the attendance for this game is skinny.

There’s still a lot in the concourse but I doubt we break 5000.
