Is it safe to say this team has no hitting?

Mets pitching is tied with SD for fewest runs allowed in the Big Leagues, so they’ve shut some teams down and will probably continue to do so, but yeah, the Cardinals don’t really have anyone on the roster who I would term a genuinely dangerous threat with the bat. They just don’t have any hitters who seem to be able to display any authentic firepower like the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Padres, Phillies and a couple of others who all have at least two or three bats that could be termed extremely dangerous.

    Totally agree 1td.

Arenado used to be a feared bat but about all he does anymore is hit little weak groundballs or little weak pop flyballs. I am absolutely convinced he is gone at the trade deadline.

We have a very poor lineup top to bottom.

People have stated that our offense is good. If true then why are we 9-12 now???

Yeah, I don’t think too many opposing pitchers are losing any sleep the night before taking their turn against any of the various lineups that our whiz-kid manager throws together.

Edit; And as much as I don’t like the Cardinal manager, I have to acknowledge that at this stage he doesn’t have much to work with. But if he did, he’d find a way to jam it up…Haha!

Well, it’s Easter, so perhaps this team can be inspired to rise from its offensive lethargy.

Meantime, Madame CiF and I will be enjoying a Paques din-din of duck, baked potatoes drizzled with duck fat and carrots sauteed in butter, all washed down with a cool rose d’anjou and capped with a slice of chocolate cake.

    Rah Cardinals!

Well, hopefully the lads can turn this around before they get mired too far under .500 to fight their way back.

There are exceptions of course like 2021 but usually the first 40 games give a decent idea of what kind of club you have…and the 2021 edition didn’t advance in the playoffs.

Regardless of our record, I think all the youngsters like Gorman and Walker need their 500+ at bats this year because we need to know if they can or can’t cut the mustard at the ML level.

The season can be fun and painful at the same time.

Oily can’t see past the LR matchups and staggering LR in the lineup. There’s no use trying to understand it.

Road tripping it with my daughter for a couple of days as she is making a big move to Hawaii. We are heading west to LA where she will stay with her aunt and uncle a few days, then get her car to a port to ship over and then fly out.

Meanwhile our club ain’t doing much after the promising opening series sweep. Still way too early to know exactly what will transpire.

Coach Shildt has a nice club, and of course he is a player’s manager and does it right. He seems to have that right mix of the ability to fire up his guys, and show a calm demeanor that keeps everyone relaxed and focused. I don’t know why we can’t hire a guy like that? 🙂

I am hoping the team can turn things around today! They need to start winning on the road!

A four game sweep is not real common, and hopefully that is the case today. I sense a somewhat lopsided win, like along the lines of 8-2.

You’re on the right track, BicycleMike. A 2-8 road record to kick off the 2025 campaign is not what we all had in mind. Sonny won’t let us down today. Let’s call it 7-4 Birds with Arenado getting off the proverbial power schneid by unleashing a long snelt high up into the left field rafters. My two most pleasant 2025 surprises thus far have been Maton and Saggese, with a well deserved tip of the cap to Jnevel’s Pedro Jose Pages. Donovan’s red hot start shouldn’t surprise any of us.

What’s for din-din one may ask? I want what Cardinal in France is having, but since I can’t, I’ll have to settle for a restaurant people in the Madison area have been raving about……The Maple Tree in beautiful McFarland, Wisconsin. I’m not usually big on buffets, but will give this one a try. And speaking of Wisconsin, if anyone here resides in southeastern Wisconsin and is contemplating a move, I have the perfect place for you. I’ve been renting my former home to my cousin for the past several years, but he is being transferred to Chagrin Falls, Ohio this coming July. It’s a beautiful older home in Whitefish Bay, just 2 blocks from Lake Michigan. As long as your c-cap doesn’t look disastrous, I give great deals to fellow Cardinal Nationers.

ZTR mentioned Gorman and Walker need 500 atbats this year to see if they can cut the mustard at the big league level.

This is Walker’s 3rd year. I guess the book is still open.

Gorman, on the other hand, has pretty much proved he is nothing but a walking strikeout. If he thinks the 3rdbase job is going to be handed to him once Arenado is moved at the trade deadline he finally – AND I MEAN FINALLY – better start doing something other than striking out all the time.

Din-din today is a ribeye steak in the air fryer, some jumbo crinkle cut french fries, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a strawberry parfait. Along with a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar.

Yeah, Bikemike, Schildt’s now 360-274 for a .568 W/L pct. which places him in the category of a genuine first rate Big League manager. The only downside is a lack of a lot of post-season success, but I strongly suspect that will change. I also think there’s a decent chance that we’ll be seeing him around for a long time to come and that before he’s through managing, he’ll be one of these guys who’s been on the top step of a Big League dugout for 2000 or more games

The lineup cooled since they went thru that streak beating aces, not long ago. We do need our ace to stop this losing streak.

The weather looks all clear along the eastern seaboard. Should have no problem getting this game in.

I wonder if the Nationals and Rockies are going to be snowed out again today?

Rat, I recall that over the winter you were adamant the the Cardinals should keep Arenado because he was primed to have a big year and the Cardinals had a chance to win a weak division. As it turns out Arenado probably isn’t going to have a big year and the Cardinals are definitely not going to win the division. The Cubs are on cruise control this year.

To be fair I was adamant that the Cardinals should trade Arenado but I have kind of backed off that stance. Even though he is overpaid his salary won’t be a big burden for this team the next couple of year since so many others are coming off of the books. It is also apparent that we don’t have anyone else on the roster who can be an everyday 3B.

And he’ll have trouble with it all summer if he keeps offering up that belt high fastball to hitters like Lindor.

Runners at the corners for Soto ain’t good. Gray’s got his work cut out for him here.

Despite the run scoring on the sac fly, I’d say Gray won that battle.
