McGreevy with a very manageable 33 pitches through 3 frames. Just looking at McGreevy, I get the feeling that he’s not going to physically break down easily……..hopefully we have a Lance Lynn on our hands in that respect. 2-0 Birds.
Walker lines out to left with 2 on and 2 out, but it still was a very encouraging swing he put on that ball…..maybe he’s getting it together.
I wonder if this Tovar fellow is related to Caesar? Caesar Tovar was quite the nice little player with the Twinkies back in the day. And Colorado opens the 4th with 3 consecutive base knocks, plating one. But now a most welcome 6-4-3 twin killing brightens matters up considerably. And a fly ball to center keeps the score at 2-1 Birds heading to the bottom of the 4th.

Most of these hits McGreevy has allowed today were not hit with a over abundance of authority …..oh oh now Fernandez whacks a much more respectable base knock and the Rockies have runners on the corners with no outs. Oh no…..work just called and they need your’s truly….I’m torn….do I go or not….ah the place will probably crumble into ruins if I don’t…..JJ, TD. Booyah……bring this victory home!
Burly puts a charge into one out to right to make it a 5-2 game. Good defense by that fan to stop the other youngster from getting to that home run ball.
Big HR for the Rockies. Jojo played with fire and got burned. 6-5 Rockies. These are two evenly matched teams, sad to say.
Im emotionless with this team. I just didn’t feel anything when that big fat hit me ball went flying out.
The Rockies at least are playing hard. Saggese hit one to the wall. Then Moniak with a great play to rob Pages. Former first pick stuff there. Donovan the last chance…and fly out with a whimper. Sad performance for a sad team.
Serves me right for getting my hopes up. Oh well, just wait until that Bloom fella takes over and resets us.
By the way, what’s Bloom going to be called? GM? POBO? KINGFISH?
Thanks to Pugs for the mention of Caesar Tovar which is a first rate baseball name from the past that I’d forgotten about. Tovar was a solid Big League baseball player who led the AL in hits in with 204 in ’71. That ’71 season was also the season that Joe Torre led all players in either league with a total of 230 hits during his Cardinal MVP season. Poor Caesar died of cancer at the relatively young age of 54 and was so highly esteemed in his native country of Venezuela that his funeral was attended by that nation’s President.
Thankfully I missed the late collapse. Not exactly a good showing but should be expected from the team that traded some bullpen and then the bullpen lets them down.
I am with you JJ about the scholarship guys getting playing time over Fermin but I think your guy Gorman was destined to be one of the pedigree runway wonders until Nado’s NTC told the Astros to shove it. Trying to find Gorman another position to play has been a challenge. Heck watching him play defense 3B has been a challenge.
Well CIF, let’s just hope he’s not called, “Bialystock and Bloom”…Unless, of course, he’s equipped with a Swedish secretary named Ulla who, despite not speaking English, really knows how to shake it to the beat when she’s instructed to, “Go…To…Work”…
I said this about 10 days but it’s worth repeating. I hate the idea of JoJo closing games when he’s the only lefty in our pen. Today is a great example. The Rockies had four right handed bats on their bench that made easy late-game counters. I’d rather see JoJo deployed when he will actually be facing lefties.
In today’s game, Doyle was obviously pinch hitting for Fernandez in the 9th with the Rockies down by just one. Then, Goodman was obviously pinch hitting for Fulford regardless of who came in to pitch. That left JoJo pitching to 3 righties in a row (Farmer pinch hitting to make it 4 in a row). And no matter who we had pitching, those were the same moves the Rockies would have made. Granillo destroys righties. O’Brien also could have been left for the 9th. But no, paint by numbers said this was Romero’s turn. That was a very bad decision making process.
