Don’t know much about Sheehan but it looks like the pens will be used early in this one. Looks like he’s done ok in his limited use.
As per our knowledge of Mikolas. The big inning is what he needs to avoid. Have the pen moving around in the 4th and warming up in the 5th. Pathetic again to say this but 5 ip and 3 eris the goal. Lol
One of our better efforts of late last night. Just shows that if you can get good starting pitching, you always have a chance.
With the DH, the guy that made a career out of pinch-hitting is mostly a thing of the past. We had one of those guys in the ‘80s in Steve Braun. Yohel Pozo kind of brings that back. He’s a right-handed Smoky Burgess; even physically resembles Smoky. Burgess added a few years onto his career as a pinch-hitter.
Cool Euro – thanks for sharing. One of the first baseball cards I got as a kid was Smoky Burgess. Thus I have always liked him. Pozo has that same physique and seems to be similar in the way he plays. A mirror image of Smoky Burgess.
Yep, bikemike. That statue went up just recently. I’ve heard about Smoky since I was a little kid. He’s from my father’s hometown (I also lived there a for a several years in my teens) and just a few years older than dad.
The hometown folks always mentioned his pinch hitting record, but he was more than just that, e.g., all star in 6 different seasons.
In July it depended on who caught Miles. Indepence day Pages/Mikolas surrender 8 ER, across 6 IP allowing 6 HR’s. It must have awoken Oli, because Pozo/Mikolas has since thrown 20.2 IP, 7 ER, 3.05 ERA across 4 GS.
It’s now August, and it’s the Dodgers. We shall see.Great stuff Euro. Smoky was from North Carolina I believe. Cool that you lived in the same town for awhile.
Yeah, Smoky was a good player and had a long career. He gravitated to mostly pinch hitting later in his career. Was the catcher, along with righty hitting Hal W Smith (not to be confused with our catcher at the time Hal R Smith, who was an influence to a young Tim McCarver by the way) for the 1960 Pirates championship club. A career .295 hitter and 116 OPS+.
And in an odd twist to tie in North Carolina and Hal Smith, there was a third “Hal Smith”, the actor that played Otis on The Andy Griffith Show.

That catch Nooty made last night was one of the more incredible plays I have seen, especially given the situation. Anyone seen one of those stats that shows the percentage probability of making that play?
In an odd twist to tie in North Carolina and Hal Smith, there was a third “Hal Smith”, the actor that played Otis on The Andy Griffith Show.
And that third actor may very well have been the best ballplayer of the three, if not for his unwavering love of the bottle……mainly some of that world renowned stout North Carolinian moonshine, BicycleMike.
Well let’s take game 2 tonight and then these Dodgers will really be reeling…..and perfectly ripe to be swept. These 2025 Dodgers are not a scary lot and are quite possibly the worst 350 million dollar payroll squad to ever lace them up.
Looking at tonight’s lineup I’m thinking it’s possible that, with the exception of Winn and Pozo, every player has served as the DH in a Redbird lineup. Is that anywhere near reality?
What start time is everyone’s favorite? I know CardinalInFrance’s must be afternoon games so he can catch them.
For me, 8:05 would personally be the best start time. Gives me time to take care of some things after work and get dinner finished while being able to watch the whole game. That start time isn’t frequent though. I do prefer the 9:00+ start times over the early 5-5:30 games when playing on the east coast.
We really need another lefty arm headed into the weekend. The guy from the Marlins is on the 40 man IIRC.

Statcast said 30% probability of a catch. I would have guessed lower.
That mayhem guy on the insurance commercial where he destroys all the flower beds and creates a car wreck with the supercharged leaf blower is more than a little funny. I actually did something similar several years ago to Mrs. 1TD’s flowers while I was using a leaf blower in our yard. I got all the damage lined out and squared away before she noticed what had happened, but it was a close call…Haha!
In regards to game times, I’d say I like the 7:15 first pitch for a night game and the 1:15 for those played under sunshine on the weekends. I also wouldn’t mind seeing some of those old weekday businessman’s special and lady’s day start times which I seem to recall were always scheduled for noon or maybe 12:15. At least I think that’s what time those weekday day games were once scheduled.
I’m not too fond at all of the Hernandez dance at 2B after the double. He did the precise same thing last night. There was a time when he would never get a second chance to do it. Just as soon as he stood in the box after the first act, it would have been taken care of and left to rest.
