I admit that I stayed up to the end, but I am bleary-eyed today.

MrperkinsParticipantReally important to get that first win. It could have gotten ugly if the Dodgers swept the series and the L’s kept mounting.
March 31, 2024 at 8:53 am #245773Very nice win indeed. I couldn’t stay up all the way for this one. I was thrilled to see the comeback – twice.
We will probably be limited on bullpen pitchers today. No Liberatore, Gallegos, or Romero. And, they’d probably prefer to not use Helsley. That leaves 4 guys to backup Matz who isn’t known for going deep into games. We need at least 5 from him today – or a rainout.
March 31, 2024 at 9:43 am #245774Lynn was really fortunate in the first two innings not to get nicked for a few runs.
He did get out of both jams but Molly Hatchet would say he was flirtin’ with disaster.
He’s a husky lad on the bump though, plenty of rear end behind his pitches although he was late twice getting into position to back up throws coming in from the outfield.
March 31, 2024 at 9:52 am #245775Crazy game. I shut it off when the delay occurred as it looked like it would be a wash-out. Watched the highlights this morning. We tried to give it away, but managed to get the “W”.
I thought Burly was good in right field last night, although he probably does not make the play Siani made later on. Man I tell you, Mookie Betts is something. How the Red Sox let him go is beyond me. The guy is extremely valuable – great hitter, can play anywhere. He is like a Donovan/Edman on steroids. When Ohtani goes back to pitching, if he does, they have a very flexible roster.
Also watch out for those Pirates in the next couple of years. That Jones kid that pitched yesterday looks like a good one. And if Skenes stays healthy, combine him with Jones and Keller and they will have a nice top of the rotation.
March 31, 2024 at 12:03 pm #245790I cannot get over how Marmol allowed Matt Carpenter to take that last ab bat when he had Contreras and Walker on the bench. Goodness its only 3 days into the season…
March 31, 2024 at 12:21 pm #245794I didn’t see any action after the 4th inning, but I can imagine the comedy of errors displayed by the whiz-kid in an extra inning game that took 4 hrs. to complete. He’s so incredibly oblivious and at times seems to be enitrely removed from reality.

I was thinking the same thing Mike. That play Siani made was not easy since Gorman was charging right in front of him. I doubt Burly makes that play so Siani has already earned his spot on the roster in my opinion.
March 31, 2024 at 12:32 pm #245800How about the OF assist? He looked like Larry Walker out there in RF…

If he believes Matt Carpenter should bat 5th in the order, then he clearly believes there’s no need to pinch-hit for him in a critical situation.
At this point I’m just pleasantly surprised by any game wherein Ollie Marmol does nothing insanely stupid. (Carp usage yesterday, insanely stupid. Goldschmidt hitting 2nd every day, Gallegos throwing 20 pitches on Friday, Herrera getting zero DH duty so far, all just regular stupid.)
March 31, 2024 at 6:29 pm #245857Bob, who would you want to see batting second right now?
March 31, 2024 at 7:40 pm #245878“Bob, who would you want to see batting second right now?”
Depends, Bling.
Under ordinary circumstances, I’d have Donovan & Noot at the top, every day, every opposing starter. As is right now, it’d be more a matter of matchups. But the one thing I would never ever do, is have my team’s #1 RBI man batting in a non-RBI batting order slot. In Ollie’s World, Goldy will usually bat with the bases empty in the first inning — and never ever bat with multiple men on. That’s just dumb.
March 31, 2024 at 7:55 pm #245890I’m pretty sure OlliMo thinks if it works for the Yankees it will work for us.
March 31, 2024 at 9:06 pm #245924They could try not having the tarp come out for 45 minutes in the top of the fifth.
I knew someone would use this excuse. Thanks Bling. It’s just that a damn excuse. 45 minutes whatever, throw him back out there. He isn’t some prized rookie. He’s a grizzled veteran on a one year deal. Nothing to lose or hurt. Baseball has become so weak.
March 31, 2024 at 9:58 pm #245930I meant that the rain delay took it out of Lynn’s hands. I will not defend OlliMo’s decision.
