February 25, 2018 at 11:42 am #44644Not to be biased or anything, but I really like the Cardinals lineup sheet over Houston’s. Its definitely more aesthetically pleasing.
February 25, 2018 at 1:05 pm #44654We definitely have the more professional looking scorecard but who has the better names written down? :o)
February 25, 2018 at 1:21 pm #446594-0 Astros on a Kyle Tucker 3 run bomb of Mikolas
I know it’s the 1st games of spring but not the start you we’re looking for from a guy expected to stabilize the rotation.
February 25, 2018 at 1:21 pm #44660Kyle Tucker takes Mikolas deep to center as the Astros take a 4-0 lead in the 1st. Took him 27 pitches to get three outs.
February 25, 2018 at 1:56 pm #44663Mikolas couldn’t get through the second, leaving with a total of six runs in and replaced by Mike Mayers.
February 25, 2018 at 2:12 pm #44664To be fair, this game looks similar to Mikolas’ previous MLB games. At least this one doesn’t technically count.
February 25, 2018 at 2:55 pm #44666Maddux’ comment was that Mikolas couldn’t get the off-speed over and they sat on his fastball. Bad formula.
Solo homers to CF by Pham and Molina. Nice return for Poncedeleon. Astros up 7-3 through five.
February 25, 2018 at 2:57 pm #44667Who couldn’t see this coming with the Japan import…may as well had used one of the young guys if they weren’t gonna spend money for a better pitcher.
February 25, 2018 at 3:03 pm #44669PDL ran into some trouble in his second inning, but a great throw from Arozarena in right to Munoz at third erased a runner trying to go first to third on a single.
February 25, 2018 at 3:50 pm #44670Bases loaded against Motte in the 8th as he was vocally angry about the strike zone. Ended the inning with a high fastball to an Astros farmhand. Still 7-3 going into the home eighth.
February 25, 2018 at 3:53 pm #44672That was a really good play by Arozarena throwing the runner out at third by 15 feet. Motte had a decent inning. He worked around being squeezed by the ump.
February 25, 2018 at 4:17 pm #44675Cards fall 7-3 to drop to 1-2 on the spring.
February 25, 2018 at 4:34 pm #44676Looks like Miles picked up right were he left off when he was last in majors.
February 25, 2018 at 8:13 pm #44683When Mayers gets his chance again at the major league level, I hope he can pitch like he did today.
February 25, 2018 at 10:03 pm #44684If Mayers pitches like he did today in the majors this year I’ll eat crow. He was good and I think we will need his arm this year.
February 25, 2018 at 10:48 pm #44686I tweeted this earlier today.
Most #stlcards fans have already made their minds up about Mike Mayers, but this winter, he pitched very well in the Dominican Winter League. 2.63 ERA in 7 starts. 37K, 9BB in 37.2 IP. OBA .158.

February 26, 2018 at 5:46 am #44688Why aren’t the same people saying Miles isnt going to cut it not saying Mayers will win the Cy Young?
February 26, 2018 at 7:14 am #44689I did not see yesterdays game. Was Mikolasas bad as his stats indicate? Granted it was just one game. Mayers seems to have improved in the last year. He always seemed like he needed a better breaking ball, or changeup.
February 26, 2018 at 7:58 am #44690Mikolas couldn’t throw his off-speed stuff in the zip code of the plate and Houston sat on his average belt high fast ball that he repeatedly threw with very little movement. It was batting practice for their quality hitters. He’s probably better suited for the bullpen than the rotation. I don’t see how he makes it through a big league lineup more than twice and that’s if he’s lucky. That will stress the bullpen if he’s in the rotation. He was pretty much the guy i remember with the Rangers. Hopefully he won’t be there for long once Reyes is ready. Again my opinion and I hope I’m wrong.

ParticipantNo need to remind anyone that it is ONE spring training game, right? Geez.
Next we’ll be hearing that we should go after a starting pitcher to replace Mikolas. or that Mayers could fit into the rotation nicely.
February 26, 2018 at 10:17 am #44701Yep one game. Ignore the fact where I said he is the same guy I saw before. Also ignore the fact I said they would have been better off with one of the young guys with upside. And nowhere did I even mention Mayers. Also ignore the fact where I said hed be better off in the bullpen. You will see as time goes (it shouldn’t take too long to realize) this was not a very good move for the rotation.
February 26, 2018 at 10:28 am #44702I was never excited about the Mikolas signing but I don’t think we should over react to one ST start. If he had thrown two perfect innings yesterday I wouldn’t have thought much about it, so to be fair I’m not going to get too worked up about one bad outing. If it becomes a trend this Spring then we can start to worry.
