If you review the Roster Matrix from last season, you can see what happened last September in terms of the waves of call ups. Same for the years before back to 2009.
The Cards are in contention every September, but Memphis only made the playoffs once between 2011 and 2016 (in 2014) so in those years, there was no reason to wait beyond Labor Day to make the call-ups.
The Matrix is under ROSTERS/PLAYERS/MOVES in the far left red menu.
August 23, 2018 at 2:42 pm #66566Brian, won’t you be putting out your thoughts on September callups soon? It seems like might need another outfielder, unless anyone wants to say Adams can play there, in which case I say PLEASE NO!!
August 23, 2018 at 2:43 pm #66567Maybe Williams?
August 23, 2018 at 3:07 pm #66573Yes, I am working on two prediction articles of which that is one.
August 31, 2018 at 3:11 pm #67596The first wave is Kelly, Webb and Poncedeleon. As in prior years, the call-ups will be phased.
August 31, 2018 at 4:29 pm #67606So I guess that means Knizner goes to Memphis for their playoffs?
August 31, 2018 at 4:32 pm #67607Yes, Bw52, that move has already occurred as well.
August 31, 2018 at 5:40 pm #67617You already know #stlcards called up three players for September expanded rosters today – Poncedeleon, Kelly and Webb. I look into both the MLB and Triple-A impact of these moves. (free) https://t.co/xoDyCkpIDp pic.twitter.com/Xc3jvb2asM

September 21, 2018 at 10:28 am #70134I review how #stlcards increased the Sept. roster to 35 players, discuss Giovanny Gallegos, Genesis Cabrera and Matt Bowman plus others not called up, and take a quick bow for my 100% accuracy in predicting the club’s seven minor league call-ups. September 21, 2018 at 10:49 am #70142Nice calls, Brian.
Did you buy any lotto tickets this week? Haha
September 21, 2018 at 12:10 pm #70155Nice article Brian.I still think it is foolish not to have all your position players available ( Justin Williams,Edmundo Sosa). It might be a longshot but having a couple of extra guys in case of a extra inning game or a blowout then you could give a little more rest to a veteran who is wearing down or just to have another LH pinch-hitter or backup glove man.
September 21, 2018 at 12:25 pm #7015814NyquisTParticipantBecause they were overlooked for a call up, Sosa and Williams are on the bubble… actually all five are very questionable. The Cards will need open roster spots soon enough.
September 21, 2018 at 12:43 pm #70160Nyquis-there are several 40-man spots that will need to be addressed I agree.Wainwright will get his back.Norris,Ross both gone IMHO.I think Bowman gets to stick around because he can help when healthy. I wonder if Wisdom has shown enough to stay on the roster.I think Cecil is traded and I think Tyler Webb is fringe roster guy.Adams FA.I have doubts about Greg Garcia staying on the roster.I do think Justin Williams sticks because he is young and is a LH bat.
September 21, 2018 at 1:18 pm #70164Adds

Still dont understand why A.Garcia was added.
September 21, 2018 at 3:45 pm #70173CC, it gets even worse when you consider that other “adds” are Fowler, Reyes, Wacha and Gregerson.
September 21, 2018 at 4:02 pm #70175Wow Forsch. I had forgotten that. Thanks (I think).
September 21, 2018 at 4:22 pm #70176Let’s try again

SosaStill leaves us 3 spots short. Is Mo up to the task? How many 2-1 trades can he do?
September 21, 2018 at 4:49 pm #70177I don’t think they’ll add Fernandez after the year he had. I could be wrong but I don’t see them adding him this year.
September 23, 2018 at 1:06 pm #70388Wong and Mo just ruined Brian’s curtain call!
September 23, 2018 at 1:22 pm #70389Urias, Schrock and Fernandez may not be protected. Although I would prefer they go with then kids, Wainright may get a 1 year deal with the way he has pitched lately.
September 23, 2018 at 1:38 pm #70391Urias I believe is an automatic loss as a minor league FA if you dont protect him.
September 23, 2018 at 3:28 pm #70421I wouldn’t take Schrock either. His only tool is hitting for a good average (which he didn’t do this year anyway). No power, not a great defender, 2B only. Tommy Edman can do all those things and plays SS and 3B too. He’s pretty much going to be ready next year, so no big deal if you lose Schrock.
September 23, 2018 at 9:42 pm #70442Add Schreve to that delete list. I think I would try and outright him just before Rule 5 draft when most all have roster issues. MIght be able to keep him at Memphis.
