Pages to the bullpen?
Sources: The St. Louis Cardinals plan to call up 22-year-old Panamanian catcher Leo Bernal, the organization’s No. 7 prospect, according to @MLBPipeline.
Bernal is expected to make his MLB debut when the Cardinals face the Dodgers in Los Angeles beginning Tuesday.

ParticipantI kind of figured they would. Are they moving someone down.
August 30, 2026 at 8:58 pm #317601Move #2.
Sources: Saint Louis Cardinals call up Dominican reliever Hancel Rincón. He’ll join the team in Los Angeles.

August 30, 2026 at 8:59 pm #317602No, 1982willie. On 9/1, rosters expand from 26 to 28.
August 30, 2026 at 9:05 pm #317603If #stlcards' roster expansion additions on Tuesday are Leo Bernal and Hancel Rincon as rumored, it would be a breath of fresh air. In recent years, the two spots were used for guys coming off the IL or the same guys riding the I-55 Shuttle. (Last year, Scott (IL) and Roycroft.)

August 30, 2026 at 9:07 pm #317606I believe there is an open 40 man slot for Rincon.

ParticipantIs triple aaa team done for the year. Bernal was their catcher.
August 30, 2026 at 9:40 pm #317608No, 1982willie. The Triple-A team continues to play as it is the source of backfill for the MLB club over the next month.
Memphis had three catchers including Bernal. They will now have two, unless the org moves one up from Springfield.
August 30, 2026 at 9:42 pm #317609I am so glad Rincon got added. He has always been one of my favorite prospects. He deserves a chance.
August 30, 2026 at 10:35 pm #317610The Cardinals now have four catchers, which is two more than they need.
It will be interesting to see how Marmol divvies up playing time between four catchers. Just enough playing time to completely fail at everything (except for Herrera, who seems to always get enough).
August 30, 2026 at 10:57 pm #317612Yeah, it’s getting more than a little repetitive at that position. Somewhere on this beautiful planet that we all share there’s a guy that can man up behind HP to effectively compliment a pitching staff and prevent opposing baserunners from taking on the look of free roaming wild horses on the base paths. The trick is to find him…

August 30, 2026 at 11:30 pm #317614Maybe Crooks will go down and Scott comes back.
August 31, 2026 at 12:21 am #317615For those of you that argued they wouldn’t add certain players to the. 40 man due to a potential strike, what do you think of them adding Bernal?
August 31, 2026 at 5:17 am #317616I missed the game yesterday due to company over, but I notice Oneil Cruz stole two bases and he also scored two runs. I don’t know if the stolen bases led to the runs, but it came to mind immediately. If the steals did lead to the runs, then, it being a one run game, made the difference between a win and a loss. Even if the steals did not lead to the runs, they could have and it emphasizes the seriousness of the problem. A non competitive team can ignore it.
August 31, 2026 at 6:55 am #317617CC – Adding Bernal has no impact on the lockout because he is already on the 40-man roster as of the end of the ‘25 season when they added him to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. It doesn’t really impact Rincon either – at least from the Cardinals standpoint – because he would have become a Minor League free agent at end of season and likely left the team.
I’m glad Rincon gets a shot. I’ve been watching him for what seems like eons.
I wonder if Pages or Crooks gets demoted when Bernal comes up. My guess is that Herrera has caught his last game – at least this season.
August 31, 2026 at 7:32 am #317620Really I’m interesting news about Bernal and Rincon getting promoted. I suppose it does make sense with Crooks continued struggles and Bernals success. Give Bernal a month to see if he can look like a starting catcher. Maybe Rainiel will get the promotion to Memphis tomorrow.
Nice to see Rincon added as well. He has been an org soldier and may be a decent RP going forward.
August 31, 2026 at 7:37 am #317621My mistake on Bernal
August 31, 2026 at 8:26 am #317628The matrix indicates 39+2 for the STL 40-Man, but I believe we only have one on the 60-day IL. Speaking of whom, is there any way chance Rajcic gets activated this year?
We currently only have six (6) players on optional assignment to the minor leagues. I can’t remember it ever being that few!
-JoeAugust 31, 2026 at 8:28 am #317629Thank you for the correction.

KeepComingBackParticipantBrian-This may have been asked and answered so I apologize if it has-But if Bernal is brought up and RR is promoted to Memphis, how does that work with their respective teams playoffs?
August 31, 2026 at 9:14 am #317644KCB, if you are asking about playoff roster eligibility, there are no restrictions. If you mean something else, please clarify.

No. Tommy John.
August 31, 2026 at 10:57 am #317655For those of you that argued they wouldn’t add certain players to the. 40 man due to a potential strike, what do you think of them adding Bernal?
Just to clarify CC, there is not going to be a strike but there is a high likelihood of a lockout. The end result is the same for fans but from a legal point of view there are differences.
August 31, 2026 at 11:04 am #317656No. Tommy John.
Speaking of elbow surgery, have we heard whether Ixan Henderson has/is/will since he went on the 60 day?
August 31, 2026 at 3:39 pm #317666Now if only they can add Mendoza. Might take another injury and/or Prieto doing badly. Is Jordan out much longer? I really like Mendoza. He could be a valuable utility guy who can hit. I actually prefer him over Fermin and Prieto, but I don’t think the FO does.
