What are you afraid of LA?

I hate stupidity. And it is stupid to guarantee the worst player on the team a starting postion.

Well IF Donovan isn’t traded and plays in the OF AND Herrera plays in the OF then I guess we won’t need an extra outfielder?

They might play guys wherever to cram bats into the lineup. If so, I hope they will be willing to move guys aside or out when actual outfielders play their way to the bigs.

They aren’t going to sign an MLB caliber right hitting outfielder. No one is going to come here on the bases of playing for a rebuilding team and only starting 2-3 times a week.

Outside of Acuna who has a club option, the 2027 right handed outfield free agents aren’t much to write home about.

I guess you’d have George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez who will both be over 35 as some type of veteran presence, but don’t see them as a fit age wise.

Miguel Andujar might still fit. His last three teams have been the Pirates, A’s, and Reds so it isn’t like he is used to playing for a world series contender.

Our roster / outfield has been “reset” to the default setting. No contracts influencing playing time, just competition among the players to seperate themselves. Looking forward to the game threads!

This is probably the least excited I’ve ever been for a season haha.

All he did was send off the big contracts. Pretty weak rebuild imo.

Pretty hard to field a competitive team when the 40 man is making under $70 million, it’s pretty obvious they are tanking this year

One would believe this will be the pivot. Can play against lefties at 3rd and can be moved to each corner. Swiss army knife at the corners. We may not even have Noot to start the season. Haven’t really heard much. Not sure Donny gets dealt until the offer just blows Chaim away.

Memphis should be the team to follow.

That’s what I thought going into last spring! Injuries to the pitching staff changed that! But I agree, they should be good this year, and Springfield will be good again as well.

Who is left worth signing? FWIW, yesterday Bloom told us he is still looking for an OF.

Well we could pivot back to our old pal Tommy Pham. Lol otherwise its the Mexican league or trade for someone.

I don’t really need to see Randall KK Grichuk again or weak ass Austin Slater.

Our lineup may lead the league in K’s for 26′ as is. Nado and Donny were the lowest K% batters last season.

When you wait this long to backfill, the available FA choices better fit Bills budget. Hello Siani 😉

If “who” is acquired by trade, it could be a near minimum, for a near minimum. Someone else like Walker, Scott and Church who needs a runway to break out.

Perhaps the return for the Romero trade is that righty OF bat. JJ may be onto something with the arb runway needed guy, or perhaps the Cards would actually “buy” a prospect by taking a contract back? They’ve done it with the trade aways so I wouldn’t guarantee it wouldn’t be done with a trade in.

I like the idea of giving another club salary relief, for a pre-arb outfielder included. Contenders usually have a contract they’d like to dump. It would take Bill’s co-operation with cash to help advance the rebuild.

The CWS taking on 16mil of Jordan Hicks 2/24mil from BOS is a recent example of buying prospects.

The Cardinals acknowledged they did it in several of their trades this winter, sending more money with the veterans to get prospects back. Boston must have a deep well of prospects to draw upon. Some date to Chaim’s time there.

They did add funds during trades, but the majority of cash sent was paying up the tab for their own backloaded contracts on Contreras/ Gray.

We’re under 100mil. We’re 40mil under last season. Bill gets no props for “spending” from me. Right now is an opportunity to do more. You want the over or under on a 110mil 2026 budget?

Sorry if that sounded snarky BW. I’m struggling with being a fan of a “have not” club 😉

The rebuild is necessary. If Bill DeWitt chose the welfare line as his best option, his experience should know.

I’ll take the under on 110mil and I plan to follow the Mariners, Red Sox and Edman much closer this season.

As of today is the default OF Church, Scott, Walker, with Nootbar on the DL?

Would Herrera or Saggesse be the 4th outfielder if the season started today ?

Not Herrera. The other day, Bloom mentioned Saggese and Fermin as possibilities.

    No problem, jj.

Our old friend Marcell Ozuna is still available. Supposedly the Pirates are considering him.

I seriously would not want him but I just had to throw his name out there.

Mo’s poster boy of “mortgaging the future” should have a lifetime ban from the stl roster, regardless of his current cost.

It will be interesting to see how Fermmin does in the outfield. You will not get much power, but he has some good AAA OBP numbers the last 2-3 years and ML numbers were better last season (although a small sample size).
