Yes, there would be a ripple affect all the way down, with as many as 10 Double-A players playing a level up to replace the 40-man players locked out, for example. That means more High-A players will be with Springfield, etc. The Cardinals may also be more aggressive signing minor league free agents this fall to help fill the lockout gap.

Of course, this isn’t Cardinals specific. Every organization will have the same issues, but everyone may or may not go about dealing with it the same way. I spoke about this lockout gap a week ago on the podcast.

Since everything under the sun is now measured and analyzed I would like to know what Rainiel’s body fat percentage is. That might be something to monitor going forward.

I haven’t stood next to Rodriguez since spring training, but at that time, I had no trigger to be concerned about his weight. (I get you are saying body fat, but the closest surrogate I have is what I see.)

He could have gained weight during the season, but that would be unusual. Most players lose weight because of the long in-season grind, and if they put on pounds, it would be during the winter months.

    It does bear watching, though.

    This calls for a theory.

AA pay, meal money, clubhouse buffet, all better than A ball. Living large. Wait till he’s the spread they put out in AAA!!

If Cards were competitive in the pennant race I think there would be discussion of a call up

He looks like he needs to lay off of the jelly donuts.

I respectfully disagree. Especially because of the lockout threat, the Cards would not want to put RR on the 40-man yet and it would be very odd for them to leapfrog Bernal, who is already on the roster, is a top prospect in his own right and is having a good year at Triple-A.

Bernal who? R-Rod is sucking up all the oxygen.

The Cards said they aren’t rushing anyone, and so far, they’ve stuck to it.

So far all their promotions have been justified and the prospects have eventually done well or flourished. Many questioned the Rodriguez promotion to AA, but he has proven worthy.

From the BA chat earlier this week

At this point please tell me Rainiel is pushing for top 10 consideration next year and potentially even top 5?

Yep. I think he’ll be in that range, if not higher, to begin 2027.

What would be needed from ace reese next year to be a top 100 guy and how strong is Rainiel Rodriguezs case for no 1 prospect?

Reese would need strong feedback from evaluators.

Rodriguez’s case for No. 1 overall is plenty strong, IMO. Young player at a premium position who produced like nobody’s business this year. This coming list might be the first time in a while we have fierce debate at 1-1.

    Bonus comments on Emmanuel Luna

Can you talk about the cards system, lots of prospects in AA

I love the Cardinals system so very much (not just saying this because there is a cardinal glaring at me from the fence right now). Loved their draft, loved what I heard about Emanuel Luna, loved what they did at the deadline. System is stacked and there’s not much else to say.

What factors have made BA so high on Emmanuel Luna?

He’s strong, athletic and hits the living heck out of the ball. As I said on the podcast the other day, if he’d done anything close to what he did in the nine active games all season long, he would probably be in the Top 100 and might have passed Angeibel Gomez for the No. 1 spot in the DSL. The reviews on him were ridiculous.
