In recent weeks, the moderators have closed several discussion threads due to comments that are clearly against our board rules. The most recent was this morning. These posts are not being made by new members of our community, but by those who should know better. Yet this keeps happening.
We don’t want to suspend anyone’s posting permissions but expect adherence to our rules, which are always pinned to the top of the forum. Here is the link.
As a reminder,
“Non-Cardinals baseball topics and posts do not belong in the forum and may be deleted or moved without notice. These include, but are not limited to race, politics and religion.”
Please respect others and follow our rules.

Rule #1 – Obey all rules!
Unfortunately, these days, there is a lot of needlessly abrasive tribalism which impedes rational discussion. I can’t complain about the decision to close the thread.
“Non-Cardinal topics and posts do not belong in the forum”…I don’t mean to gripe, BW, but that policy genuinely seems to be way more than a little broad in scope and width. The St. Louis, Cardinals are my favorite sports team, but first and foremost, I’m a fan of baseball. I comment and read the comments on this site to embellish the fun and entertainment that I enjoy as a result of being a baseball fan. If you can’t have a little fun, what’s the point, right? I do my best to respect others that may or may not share my views on any particular topic and I genuinely find a good percentage of opposing views as food for thought. Additionally, I certainly don’t take any of my own opinions or views too awfully seriously. You’ll never see me comment on anything that is remotely related to politics, race, or religion on this web-site simply because I consider all three of those subjects to be incredibly boring and wearisome. As for baseball, I feel like it’s a little restrictive to have a policy in place that confines any discussion to Cardinal topics. If I want to comment on the fine quality associated with a limited edition, hand stitched and made in the USA, Bill Buckner model oven mitt, it’s my view that I shouldn’t feel reluctant to do so…Haha!
1TD, there has always been ample latitude for non Cardinals centered topics, especially in the off season. It almost never attracts moderator attention unless the thread veers into politics, religion etc. That is really the bigger concern, I think.
The next time a thread gets closed due to comments re an oven mitt or dinner menus, your post might have some merit.
The surest way to start a message board WW III is to debate race, politics and/or religion. There’s other sites for those discussions.
Bling…That was my impression also. Heck, you know me…I’m liable to start a topic related to the difficulty of opening a bag of peanuts or not getting mustard and relish on your shirt…Haha!
UConnCard…I’m not so sure…Mustard or Ketchup on a hot dog? Now that debate is almost guaranteed to result in armed conflict…Haha!
Haha!…I once saw someone put BBQ sauce on a grilled rib-eye steak. I immediately notified the proper authorities and he was taken off the streets and into custody…

Thanks to the mods for enforcing the rules. Things get off the rails around here sometimes which can certainly harm the board and drive people away.
bccran…I’m never neutral concerning did-din. Especially when I hear Mrs. 1TD ring the din-din bell…Haha!

Yes it was, just ask the fans in Atlanta who had the All-Star Game pulled out from under them due to a mob feeding frenzy. But I agree with the moderators decision to shut down the discussion as I said already.
To me the most legitimate baseball comment on that thread was the one that insisted Curt Schilling belongs in the HOF, which he obviously does. In addition to accumulating over 3000 K’s, a 216-146 W/L record, and three 20 win seasons, no one, and I mean no one, was better than Schilling in the post-season. The guy is 11-2 with a 2.23 ERA in 133.1 IP in the post-season. Curt Schilling was no joke.
Speaking of baseball comments, it’s now 5-0 Houston over the Yankees in the 7th. If the Astros hold on, and they will, it’ll be their 6th post-season game win. In a row…
Still waiting to hear from Brian or UConn on whether din-din talk falls within the posting rules regarding baseball discussion. Just wondering.
To me the whole thread was baseball related, outside of a couple of comments made. It’s no secret that baseball has stopped catering to it’s pure fanbase, that’s not a political or some kind of moral thought. So discussing it seems like a legitimate thing, of course maybe it didn’t need its own thread but who am I to say.
Bccran, it was a thread about something curt schilling said. A couple of posts went off the rails I guess, I left after making my posts and it was locked when I came back. So I don’t specifically know what was said. As far as I know, what shilling said wasn’t a political statement, I took it as a general baseball question, not the first time it’s been discussed. That’s all I know

The mods can speak for themselves but it is my impression that the main line not to cross would be political comments and they have been very consistent about that. Debating public policy and candidates will only divide us and destroy the board. Discussing food doesn’t seem to do that. I know that we all don’t agree on certain things but the thing that binds us together is the passion we have for Cardinal baseball. Hopefully that will remain the focus.
Yep gscott, din-din is not very polarizing. That’s the obvious difference. FWIW, bikemike sometimes chimes in, so he thinks they are okay. I usually don’t, but sometimes do chime in and think it’s fine. Plus, they are in game threads, which are here today and gone tomorrow. It adds to the social element and interest of it for many. A group of people “watching” a game is a social event. It’s not like there are din-din discussions cluttering threads like “Questions for 2023” or “AFL.”
