I notice that PDJ in is the PB lineup as DH rather than SS.

We don’t have Jeff Albert to kick around any more. Or abuse on social media for that matter. He’ll be much safer in New York as the Mets’ new Director of Hitting.
The NY Mets were 2nd in all of MLB for team batting average in the 2022 season. This year the Mets are 27th, easily outpacing the A’s, Tigers and Royals. Albert might want to cancel his social media accounts. I’m not sure they care about small sample sizes. Or maybe they don’t know who Jeff Albert is.
I am trying to think of a reason to pull DeJong after 3 PAs given that he is there to get tuned up for his return.
If you go to Baseball Reference, or similar, and look at several random player’s stats, you will see that the career trajectory of PDJ is very common. Guys like Goldy, Pujols, Matt Holiday, are relatively rare.
Most big league batters don’t ever do well. The next most common group is like PDJ that have one or one and half good years. Remember that Cardinal shortstop from 15 years ago that used to chew on his shirt?Brendan Ryan? Yeah he had one or two decent years with the bat but was a very good glove man. He was kind of a quirky guy and my recollection is that TLR tired of his antics. One difference between Ryan and PDJ is that the Cardinals didn’t sign Ryan to a long term contract.
There are and also a lot of control issues. He’s probably getting some chin music and the mascot ‘s head is on a swivel.
If DeJong can field a ground ball, maybe the Pirates will take him off our hands for a low level prospect and some salary help. They lost Cruz until probably August.
The Bucs might also look in to former Redbird Eduardo Sosa, who I would take over PDJ in a St Louis minute.
If the Pirates did acquire Paul, they would become the first team in history with two guys named “DeJong” on their roster.
After 3 games in low A, hitting .111, Paul moved up to AAA. Yesterday went 0fer 4 with 3 Ks. The futility is sad, but he has to plug away until they tell him he can stop.
update. Memphis pounded out 14 hits Wednesday, and Paulie got a couple, including a double. Drove in 3 of their 10 runs. Its only two AAA games, but he’s sporting a .222 BA, which is only 5 pts off the pace set by super prospect Wynn (.227).
Yeah, maybe they can sell high on Winn by including him as an inducement for another team to take on DeJong’s contract. They are clearly two peas in the same pod. Sheesh.

I hope Dejong can have an extended hot streak, and be tradeable. It’s long shot, but maybe we can eat some of this years salary, and some of next years buyout.
Motter was no better and DeJong is the true backup at short that they were lacking. If Edman were to be out for any period of time, they would not have a good solution at short in house, so they may as well keep DeJong now. The money is sunk and the roster spot is not needed for another at this point since Winn needs more time at Triple-A. A downside is that Donovan may get fewer at-bats to right his ship, but that would mean DeJong is hitting.
